Perfect romantic setting looking out above the enchanting Lake Como, the Vista D'Oro Apartments have some of the best views on the Lake. Looking down on to the town of Varenna, these apartments offer the perfect self catering holiday rental whether it be winter or summer.
All properties are decorated and furnished to provide luxury accommodation, with most having excellent home entertainment systems. All three apartments are fitted with modern full kitchens and bathrooms ensuring a comfortable stay and are perfect for romantic, family or even holidays with friends, as they all provide versatile living accommodation.
The properties are based in Varenna, the 'must see town' whilst on the lake, with its enchanting alleys and restaurants, it provides the perfect base to see the true Italy. It also has a foot and car ferry port meaning exploring the lake has never been so easy. Varenna has good easy access to local ski resorts and has its own train station with regular trains to Milan.
Varenna is one of the most beautiful towns on the lake, its steep winding alleys lined with charming homes, flowering balconies and lace-curtained windows. In the evenings, the village is serene and picturesque. Truly a perfect place for relaxing. This is an understatement! The warmth of the locals combined with the perfect setting of the place, would melt the coldest hearts of the most demanding travellers.
Looking down on Varenna is the ancient Castle of Vezio; where Theodolinda, Queen of the Lombards, is said to have died in the 7th century. Today, you can enjoy Falconry displays, the tower which is accessible, thanks to a drawbridge and the underground passages dating back to the First World War. The panoramic views are fabulous from the castle & there is also a restaurant where you can enjoy local cuisine. There are also numerous well marked hiking paths around Castello Vezio.
Two famed villas to visit here are Villa Cipressi, with terraced gardens cascading right down to the shores, and Villa Monastero, a true showcase. A distinctive feature of Varenna is it's mild climate; olive & cypress trees abound as well as many other variety's of lush, tropical plants, typical if the lake. Varenna enjoys abundant sunshine & warmth right into the evening.
This old fishing village has several very interesting shops; from local butchers to craft shops and bars, as well as many restaurants ranging from simple but fabulous pizzerias and trattorias, to elegant dining experiences with lake views. Varenna offers excellent rail links to Milan & Venice! Plus there are ferry links to all the gorgeous villages & towns along Lake Como's shores; it makes a great base for exploring the area.
Skiing in the area is bountiful with resorts such as Madesimo 1.15 hours to the north and the local ski resorts of Piani di Bobbio & Pien della Betulla are only 40 - 50 minutes away. And for an exciting day trip any time of year, why not go on the beautiful drive, through the Alps, to the international jet-set resort of St. Moritz, only 1.5 hours by car.

Just wanted to drop you an e-mail to thank you for the most amazing holidy in the Maralena apartment at Vista D'or in Varenna. As you know, it was my son's wedding and I can honestly say that the superb apartment was the icing on the cake. Opening those doors to that stupendous view every morning was beyond words - the apartment was so clean and spacious and we wanted for nothing. We travelled here with 70 guests for our son's wedding on 24/09/10 at the Villa Cipressi. 44 of our guests stayed here at Vista D'Oro and one and all agreed that it is a magical place. We were able to make Maralena the hub of wedding activity due to it's size, elegance & tranquility. Scott & Ashley had a wonderful wedding day and maralena will long remain in our hearts as the last night we had with Scott as a single man! Our week spent in Maralena has been outstanding. We have loved Varenna, it's views, restaurants and it's rustic charm which we will remeber for many years to come. Our one month stay in Apt. Maralena has been absolutely wonderful, but sadly come to an end. We found the apartment spacious yet cosy and furnished simply but tastefully. The lounge/dining/kitchen area benefit from natural light through the large terrace windows/doors and the only way to describe the scenery beyond them is BREATHTAKING!! Apartment location is peaceful & the parking area ample. All in all we very much enjoyed our 'summer break' in Apt. Maralena on beautiful Lake Como and will most definately be back again!! My wife and I and two daughters had a fantastic holiday and we would like to put on record our thanks to the team for their help in making it such a wonderful time.From the moment we decided to holiday in the Lake Como area, earlier on this year, we have been extremely happy with the service that you have provided. Finding the right apartment/property to stay in can be a challenge especially when you don’t have any previous experience or knowledge of the area. The apartment was excellent and the location and views were even better. The location is just indescribable. We believe that we had probably one of the best vantage points on the whole of Lake Como and spent hours and hours just sitting on the balcony enjoying the every changing scenery, watching all the activity on the lake, enjoying the sunsets and not forgetting being grateful for our grandstand position for the firework display at Menaggio that took place on our last night. 9th - 16th July 2010 What did we think about the property? It was dreamlike. The view is so beautiful that when we arrived I went out on the terrace, looked around, and broke into tears. We spent a lot of our week just relaxing in the apartment and on the terrace, enjoying the view and the beautiful air. The apartment was great - plenty roomy enough for all of us. It was great having the laundry machines, and we used the beautiful pool several times a day. During the day, with the shutters open, there was a nice breeze coming through. Nun ist der Urlaub am Comer See vorbei. Die Anlage Vista D'oro und das Appartment Ulivio 19 haben uns sehr gut gefallen. Nach dem ganzen Hochzeitsstress war dies genau das Richtige um wieder Kraft zu tanken. Wir werden bestimmt erneut diese Wohnung in dieser Anlage buchen. Vielen Dank für Ihre Unterstützung! Lake Como is wonderful even the thunderstorms are beautiful to watch. Its easy to get around, the weather was great and the scenery and food were wonderful. The property was very good and the pictures on the website were very reflective of the reality. The pictorial directions were terrific and the directions made it very easy to find. The team, especially Harold, could not have been more helpful. We thought the restaurant in the hotel Villa Cipressi was very good the staff were excellent and so good and helpful to our 12 year old daughter's food wishes and the surroundings and view from the terrace were wonderful. The food in Restaurant Crotto in Lierna was also terrific. We hugely enjoyed Bellagio and Villa Carlotta.
