Brooklyn house description
A large, beautiful home in the Irish Hills area of southeastern Michigan. The home is nestled on a hill overlooking Little Stoney Lake. With an open floor plan and abundant natural light streaming in on all sides, this two story house is ideal for large groups, gatherings, and for anyone who wants to feel one with nature. The large great room is lined with windows looking out at a wooded area or the acres of land attached to the house complete with native plants and hiking trails. The large wraparound deck off the back of the house has built in benches and is perfect for soaking up sun, bird watching, or for late afternoon grilling and socializing. The upstairs bedrooms have spectacular views of the lake and the nearby woods.
While the house is not directly on the lake, the lake, complete with access to a private waterfront area and a dock, is just a short walk down the hill. Perfect for swimming, fishing, or just taking in the sun on lazy summer days, Little Stoney Lake is a pristine, quiet lake with no motorboats or jet skis. Take a kayak, paddleboat, or rowboat out on the lake to explore the shoreline or get friendly with turtles on the branches in the shallows. Or, step out the back door and explore the network of hiking trails that meander through the land attached to the house. The trails connect to the adjacent state preserve land – ideal for long walks, finding morel mushrooms, and exploring the woods.
So quiet and secluded but still only a very short drive to all that the Irish Hills and the quaint village of Brooklyn have to offer: Hidden Lake Gardens; golf courses; Michigan International Speedway/NASCAR; wineries; shops and restaurants; and much, much more. Or take slightly longer trips to enjoy the many attractions offered by the nearby cities of Jackson, Adrian, and Ann Arbor.
A second property (VRBO # 370580) is 100 yards away and may be rented with this house for very large gatherings.

The home was even bigger and more impressive than the pictures. It was certainly big enough for our family of 10 adults and three small children. Since we were there when the lake was frozen and the weather was cold and snowy, we spent nearly the entire time indoors. I'm sure it would be beautiful in the summer and we've considered this as a possibility in the future. The owners were very easy to work with and we received everything that was promised. We definitely would recommend it as a family vacation spot!

Great for Our Weekend!
Great for Our Weekend!
Nine female friends met here to eat, drink, make merry, and play games--it ended up being a very good fit for us. We've been renting houses in southeast Michigan for the last several years, and we've gotten pretty good at knowing what we want. This place lived up to expectations, plus some--the large, open living room is even more open and large than we expected, and the kitchen is in the flow of that, which is great, since everyone always wants to be in the kitchen at parties. Also, the kitchen was remarkably well-stocked with good quality cookware and sharp knives, both real rarities at rental houses. Everything was clean (maybe a little dusty) and the place is definitely well-located if you want peace and quiet (or in our case, not to disturb the neighbors). There were a couple of minuses for us, personally (no fires allowed, and the TV room was smallish), but we knew about them in advance and there is no obfuscation in the listing. Also, the owners were very easy to deal with, and the woman who lives nearby and helps them check people in and out was super-pleasant. Would recommend for groups looking for time together--the space really lends itself to it!

Best long weekend EVER!
Best long weekend EVER!
The lake house was very spacious and we loved the open floor plan. There was plenty of room for everyone. My teenaged boys loved the private separate TV room with the sectional couch. My toddler boys loved the loft area where they shared the double futon and we closed the curtains around the loft to create a "tent" feeling. They slept great! The bedrooms were very large and when we arrived we were unsure about not having window coverings in the bedrooms but the very first night we spent lying in bed looking at the stars and woke to the sun we realized no curtains were necessary. :) The deck was awesome and the young kids rode their scooters and bikes around it. The teenagers enjoyed the basketball court and we all enjoyed "hiking" in the woods next to the property. But the fishing was the best part of the trip. All four of our boys had a wonderful time in the rowboat and paddle boat hanging out on the water. The home has plenty of linens and everything you could possibly want in the kitchen. There were lots of toys for the young ones and lots of books and videos for the older people in our group. There is also a great stereo system in the living area. We had a total of five adults and four kids sleeping in the house and had plenty of room for everything (and having three full bathrooms was wonderful). The closet had lots of umbrellas (it rained a bit while we were there) and there was a second refrigerator in the mud room. We had such a great time that we only left the property to purchase worms for fishing. My young toddlers were practically crying when we had to leave. We will DEFINITELY stay here again!!
