We have stayed in many VRBO's, and this was one of the best: Clean, well equipped, perfect location to shops, restaurants, and Lake Calhoun. Tim and Lara had decorated the apartment for Christmas, and it felt like home. Tim was instantly on any questions/requests we had regarding the apartment. When it snowed, Tim shoveled the driveway and steps so quickly we hardly realized it had snowed. It is larger than the pictures make it seem. Also, a major thing for non-techies: the wi-fi was the easiest and most reliable of any VRBO's we have rented. Thank you for making our family Christmas even better.

Recommended for: Tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, families with teenagers, age 55+.

Owner response: Thanks Sarah! We really enjoyed hosting you and your family over the holidays. Please think of us again when you are in Minneapolis!

For those of you who don't know Minneapolis, it has one of the most beautiful park systems in the country, and Lake Calhoun is one of its jewels. The property is one short block off the lake (which you can make out from the living room window). It is a great location. Easy hop to downtown, too. The owners, Lara and Tim, could not have been nicer. The apartment was clean, and fit our family of 4 (which includes a 9 and an 11 year old) quite well.

I stayed here for two months last summer with my 6-year old daughter while awaiting the arrival of my second child. I'm from Minneapolis but now live in Tanzania, so I knew this was a great location and was not disappointed. My daughter and I were able to walk to the beach and park at Lake Calhoun in the evenings after work, bike around on the weekends, and comfortably walk to great restaurants and fun shopping. Tim and Lara were very accommodating to our needs - which were many! - and it was a welcoming and comfortable home for us during our two-month stay. I'd recommend it to anyone but it's especially great for families with kids.

This little home is a gem. It was peaceful, very clean and was painted in beachy colors. It reminded me of the magazine REAL SIMPLE. There was plenty of room--bigger than I expected from the pictures online. Tim was a very nice host--helpful. They left us with freshly ground coffee from a local coffee shop and a loaf of french bread...classy touches. We enjoyed Lake Calhoun and walking around Uptown. My only critique would be I wish there was a nice outdoor area to sit and have coffee and look out at the lake....maybe a little patio in the corner of the yard. The yard was overgrown and needed some attention. We come to Minneapolis a couple times of year and I have many friends who travel to the Twin Cities. I will definately share this property info with my friends.

When we arrived with our two toddlers, we were greeted warmly by Tim. He and Lara were very friendly and easygoing. The kitchen was fully stocked with necessary household items. The home was very clean. It is extremely easy to walk into Uptown. We highly recommend James Lakeview House and would definitely stay here again.

Beautiful apartment. Immaculately clean on my arrival. Best possible location. Owners are fantastic. There when you need anything but never intrusive. Owners have thought of everything! Way better than a standard corporate furnished rental. Apartment is even better than in the photos. No hesitation recommending this stay and I would definitely stay here again! I travel a lot and use a lot of corporate housing so I know what I'm talking about.

We could not have been happier with our experience. The house was very clean, well furnished and the kitchen was even stocked with essentials. They even had lovely holiday decorations for a festive feel to the week. Great towels :) and firewood were provided as well. Owners were very accommodating and turned heat way up to make out newborn more comfortable at night. We hope to return next year!

Lara and Tim were gracious hosts- meeting me at the door to show me all around the place. The location was perfect and within walking distance to shops and restaurants. Very convenient to walking around Lake Calhoun. The view out the window was great- nice to see the sunset off the lake! The house is comfortable - quite relaxing- and I would recommed to anyone. I look forward to renting again when we have another girls weekend.

We stayed at James Lakeview House on a recent trip to Minneapolis for business and a wedding. What a nice place, very comfortable and close to everything! Our hosts were great! They greeted us and told us about the area and gave us a map and some very useful tips if you are not familiar to the area. You can walk anywhere in the neighborhood, it is very safe and friendly. We happened to have a nice warm fall evening and went for a stroll around the lake, how relaxing. There was a public beach nearby and it is only a few blocks from Uptown where there are many local shops and really good restaurants. There are great bike trails very close to the house. I am sure during the summer this place will book fast, but I highly recommend this as a summer vacation stay. So much to do.

Owner response: Thank you for your kind comments. It was a pleasure hosting you and your family of five. Between the biking trails, beach, and sailing school a block or two away--this area does feel like a summer resort! We are also looking forward to cross country skiing and ice skating on the frozen chain of lakes with cozy evenings by the fireplace once winter settles in. We look forward to hosting you again.

After a week at James Lakeview House we were totally happy with our experience. The location and ambiance as well as amenities were all as described on the website. It was especially nice to have our hosts right on site when small issues arose. They were right there to assist and were consistently accessible, pleasant and helpful from check in to check out. The neighborhood and proximity to the Lake for walks were fabulous. We would recommend the House to friends and would happily return on our next trip to Mpls.

About the owner: We have done a lot of travelling throughout the US and have bicycle toured in Holland, Spain, France, Corsica and Italy. We enjoy meandering, taking roads less travelled, and the joy of discovery-- whether it is an unexpected garden, a new cafe, hearing a new band, or spotting an eagle flying over Lake Calhoun. We enjoy playing host to our guests and introducing visitors to our wonderful city of Minneapolis.

                          Why the Owner Chose Minneapolis:
We fell in love with this house and this wonderful area. Hard to beat the combination of natural and urban amenities of Uptown and Lake Calhoun! LAKE CALHOUN provides plenty of opportunities for recreation and relaxation. In Summer there is beaching, biking, blading, walking, sailing, canoing, wind surfing, paddle boarding, and even paddle boats accessible for rent. Almost like Summer Resort Living! Minneapolis was recently ranked the NUMBER ONE BIKE FRIENDLY CITY in the nation by Bicycle Magazine. Access to the system of local and regional bike trails is steps away with bike rental available locally during summer and bicycle rental kiosks available all over the city from April to November. Lake Calhoun features 3 miles of bike and walking trails with a great view of the Minneapolis skyline. It is part of the city’s Chain of Lakes trails and also intersects with regional/commuter biking/blading/walking trails like the Midtown Greenway Trail. We like our big small town of Minneapolis!
