The property itself was fine. It is a small house on the edge of a hayfield with very little seclusion actually. We were visited by a very nice, large black lab from the adjacent property, who walked into the house, uninvited - thank goodness he was nice! We also had other uninvited visitors in the form of field mice - only heard 'em the first night, actually saw them the second night. Outside of the shower stall, the house was fairly clean. We did not complain about anything, but we rate our overall stay low because the rental process was made painfully difficult by the owner. A price was negotiated and agreed upon, but then our credit card was overcharged by $52.38. When the owner was informed of this error, he promised to correct it. He never did. He also failed to visit us during our stay to have us sign a rental agreement as previously arranged - apparently his method of eliminating our recourse in this situation. He promised that the cleaning fee would be prorated based on how we left the house, but charged us the full amount despite the fact that we left the house spotless, had no children, no pets (besides the aforementioned dogs and mice) and we do not smoke. After multiple unanswered texts and phone calls, the owner promised to send a check for $125 "the next day". That was our last contact with him and it occurred over a month ago. Reserve this property at your own risk.Recommended for: Pet owners.
Owner response: As the owner, I had NO contact with this couple. Had they been given our number, we could have cleared this up promptly. For that, I do sincerely apologize. We are employing a professional rental manager from here on out and no such communication problems will exist in the future. I do have a couple of comments re: your caricature of your experience: As for seclusion, both paying and non-paying house guests have marveled at the privacy and quiet in our little valley. And there is far more than the 100 acre "hayfield" to look out on The wonderful, rolling BLM forest land past our pasture and the glorious view of the entire Mt. Sopris in the distance, not to mention the Continental Divide mountains and others to both the right and left of you afford an enchanting view, only adding to the sense of a private retreat (though it is also only a couple miles to our delightful town, the twinkling lights of which can be seen at night). If you walk out onto your circular driveway, you CAN look to the right and see two homes (one being part of a 40-acre farm at the far end of the valley and one being our long-term rental snuggled into the same hill this property is partially bermed into), but they do not at all intrude on the magnificent view or quietness afforded both of our rentals. Our first rental manager (who I trust fully, but who is not the best at paperwork) was in charge at that time and said that this couple DID sign a rental contract before arriving (he has a copy of it and is working to prove his side of this story with the VRBO administration). Unlike other guests who want their cleaning deposit back, this couple left the place far from clean. It took 3 or 4 hours to clean it up to our standards. We have a history of being very fair with renters who want to do their own housecleaning as much as possible! I wonder how the neighbor's black lab could walk into a home that has its door properly shut? There IS a friendly lab who lives down the valley from us, but none of us have ever known him to travel outside of his property. I regret the intrusion! A mouse (esp. when the door is left open) IS likely to enjoy the food smells that may have drawn this dog in as well. This is the country and, amazingly, have had no other complaints. I regret that those who have raved about their experience to our caretaker, didn't take the time to write a review to counteract the impression this negative one has given others of our property.

My husband, three children and I vacationed here the last week of July. The house and property are fairly secluded which is perfect if you are looking for a quiet, relaxing place to stay. The house overlooks a huge meadow which was perfect for us as we had our two dogs with us. The dogs and kids were able to get out and explore without us worrying about them. The house was the perfect size for us. The master bedroom was a good size with large glass doors that have a perfect view of Mt. Sopris. There is also a loft with two beds, a laundry room with a bed in it and also an air mattress. We had plenty of room to spread out and enjoy our stay. The house is approximately 30 miles up valley from Aspen and 10 miles down valley from Glenwood Springs. So we were close to all the area has to offer without being close to neighbors. The price of the house rental was better than anything else we found and the owner went out of his way to make sure we had everything we needed. We would definitely love to stay here again.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with teenagers, pet owners, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers.

This home is on one of the most unique pieces of property or find anywhere. It's calm and tranquil romantic and cozy.
