This luxury rental beach house boasts five distinct, separate bedrooms with built-in fixtures, ceiling fans, large closets, and intimate baths. Hand-carved, louvered doors open each room wide to the tropical flora, warm sun, and undulating surf, blurring the line between inside and out. Read a book on the day bed outside your room, soak in a bath while watching the sunset, or enjoy dinner with friends. At March House, no one has to know you are here, unless you want them to.
In addition there is a fully equipped kitchen, including large American stainless steel refrigerator/freezer, eye-level oven and microwave, ceramic hob, dishwasher, juicer, blender, coffee maker, food processor and cutlery and crockery for 12 people. A stereo/CD player has a connection for your iPod.
The living area has over sized sofa, large daybed, center table with mood-light, plenty of open space, louvered doors opening all of west wall to patio, dining area with table for ten.
A large Patio seamlessly integrates outside with inside space, with four over sized reclining cushioned deck chairs, views of palm and mango trees with beach beyond. This semi-private cove is just 75 meters from patio, with soft white sand, an easy walk to ideal swimming, surfing, and fishing spots.
You never get bored in Mal Pais. There is always plenty to do once you tire of lounging lazily with something for everyone within an easy distance. Our very secluded beach lies right on our doorstep -for the adventurous surfer, eager swimmer, relaxed sunbather, or keen angler. If fishing appeals to you the Fishermens village is THE place to go for fishing excursions and island tours (Just ask, and we can set up a trip for you). Check out the abundance that the sea has to offer.

- Beachfront : This beach is on a small secluded bay. When the swells are good it becomes your own surf break that only the locals know about. There are several spots to swim here and fishing off the rocks often yields a Red Snapper or two. There is sand on the beach and rock pools for the youngsters to paddle in. There is no rip in this bay as there is a small reef just off shore.

I'm originally from South Africa but I lived in London for 18 years before moving to Costa Rica. In 2004 I decided to quit my high pressure job as a proprietary equity trader for a leading investment bank in the City of London.
Costa Rica and the house was calling so I took the plunge, left the rat race and opted for a calmer and more balanced lifestyle here in Costa Rica. I've never regretted this move.
I have loved meeting all my guests over the years. Always fun, always interesting!

Just got back from spending 8 wonderful nights at the March House. If you are looking for a truly relaxing vacation void of the "rat race" this is the place. The house is absolutely amazing, everything is open allowing the cooling breeze of the Pacific to flow through the rooms relaxing the mind and body. The owner, Yan, is very accommodating and is very detail orientated. He helped arrange our travel to the house and also arranged our activities during our stay. The area the house is located in Mal Pais/Carmen/Santa Teresa is a nice quite surf town. The loud, pushy-vendor, over-crowded environment that is found in other vacation spots like Cabo and Cancun of Mexico does not exist here. The locals are friendly, laid-back and live by the motto of Costa Rica of Pura Vida. I cannot say enough about the March House, Yan, and the towns of Mal Pais and Santa Teresa. If you are looking for a relaxing, go at your own pace, dream vacation this is the place. Best vacation I have personally had, nothing but Pura Vida!

The March House well exceeded our expectations. It is beautiful, open spaces, natural light and breezes flowing through, sounds of the Pacific on the beach out beyond the gardens, monkees drifting across the garden tree tops, pelicans fishing off the beach, wonderful surfing right in front of the house. The owner was hospitality personified, organizing a quad expedition in the backcountry, off shore fishing which ended on our table as sushi, expertly prepared by a local caterer. A dream stay!

The March House is beautiful: open architecture, light and sea breezes flowing through naturally, the sound of the Pacific on the beach just in front, howler monkees and white faced capuchin monkeys travelling across the gardens on tree tops, pelicans fishing off the beach. Good surfing right there and in Mal Pais. The staff kept the house perfectly clean, did the laundry and were very friendly. The owner did everything to make our stay enjoyable, including guiding us on a backcountry quad expedition and organizing some offshore fishing which was turned into sushi by a local caterer. Perfection!

Absolutely beautiful home and location. The house is situated on basically its own private beach outside of town. Mal Pais is much less commercialized and touristy than the more popular beach towns such as Tamarindo, and as such, the roads are quite terrible with numerous potholes. I prefer the potholes to streets crowded with tourists. The home has two maids who clean the sheets, linens, and dishes everyday. Yan March is a great host. He really did make the trip wonderful with his recommendations on where to eat, what guides to take fishing, who to rent ATV's from, and where to take surfing lessons. Staying at his house was relaxing, and adventuresome. I hope to return someday. As a side note, to pay for the house we were asked to send the money via bank wire prior to arrival. We were concerned at first (since we didn't know Yan), but you shouldn't worry. This method of payment is customary.

We rented the March House for a week this summer. It is truly an amazing place--the architecture of the home is gorgeous- with large open rooms, a great kitchen and dining area for entertaining, beautiful contemporary furnishings and exotic tropical gardens. The house backs up to a beautiful cove beach where you can surf and swim. It's truly a magical place with amazing flora and fauna including a troop of monkeys that visits in the morning! We brought our 2 young kids and they loved it as much as we did. Yan March, the owner of the house, is warm and hospitable. He knows everyone in town and recommends wonderful service providers and tour companies. Mal Pais is a special place-- still feels off the beaten track with great beauty, wonderful restaurants and great people

We had a wonderful time staying at the March House. My wife commented that she slept better there than she has in years. Each night you are able to go to bed looking at beautiful stars and hearing the soothing sound of the ocean. The home is open and relaxing. We loved waking up each morning in the Master Room and watching the monkeys in the trees outside, enjoying the Papayas. Mr. March has an eye for detail. The house is spotless and extremely well maintained. The home has two ladies who help with the upkeep of the home. Melba and Glenda are both personable and hardworking. They made sure every part of the home was clean and took great pride in accommodating our family. My sons were able to enjoy walking from the house to the beach and fishing on the rocks with the locals. We had such a nice experience standing beside such warm and friendly locals who welcomed us in their fishing holes. In the evenings we spent our time outside playing cards as a family on the beachside Rancho. Mr. March was a terrific host who went out of his way to make sure we were comfortable and pleased with our stay. He spent a great deal of time offering suggestions of where we might have dinner and arranging anything we needed. Through his arrangement of a local fisherman, one of my sons caught a nine foot Sailfish. Our experience in Malpais and the March House was outstanding. I highly recommend this for anyone who is looking for relaxation and an immaculate home. It exceeded our expectations. Scott San Antonio, Texas
