Above the tropical crescent Playa Samara. South-facing Casa El Gecko enjoys great ocean views and fresh breezes from every room. Only ten minute walk from the beautiful beach. The reef-protected bay provides safe swimming with great snorkeling at each end with world-class surfing nearby. Abundant wildlife in the trees. Wake up to the Howler monkeys and green parrots. Birding is great year-around. Snorkeling is easy at either end of Samara Bay.
We are near but not too close to the downtown area of Samara. This means less noise - especially at night, more privacy, a better chance to see wildlife, cooler temperatures and fewer bugs than at the beach and in town.
Casa El Gecko was designed for comfort. Large shaded terraces expand the living area.
Fully-equipped kitchen with breakfast bar provides all the comforts of home. 2 full baths - one on each floor. Master bedroom with pillow top queen bed. Main floor bedroom with pillow top double bed. Additional double futon in the screen porch for additional guests. Paddle fans in every room, all windows are screened.

Owner Description
Year Purchased: 2000
Architect and Graphic Designer by trade, we love to travel – here we are recently in Spain. We fell in love with Costa Rica and have been lving here full time since 2006. We've feel we have “re-tooled”, keeping busy running our little "boutique hotel" and making art – glass fusing, mosaics, and wood turning. Lavae volunteers/teaches English to the school children in the village. Steve's personal mission is to climb all the volcanoes in CR - he's completed Mt. Chiripo at 13,000 feet.
Why the Owner Chose Samara
We fell in love with Costa Rica for its climate, natural beauty, gracious people and sane pace of life. Playa Samara is the prettiest Pacific beach, with its palm lined crystal waters, nice restaurants, and good infrastructure, including a paved road from both international airports. Our place is an easy walk to the beach and just outside of town, where it’s quiet. Up off the beach we have cooling ocean breezes all year round and fewer insects.

We come to Costa Rica for its natural beauty and Pura Vida. So we practice sustainable tourism to protect the environment and respect the culture here. Our houses are naturally ventilated for comfort without air-conditioning. We don’t have TV to distract from the birdsongs and monkey’s howl. We use green cleaning products and recycle everything possible. And, unlike many foreigners, we pay fair wages and benefits, including health insurance, vacations, and pensions, for our staff in accordance with Costa Rican laws.
