Owner info
About the owner: As a child my family spent summers with my grandparents in , the 'Palmer Cottage' which is the very old house next door, the one very close to the road. A path was kept up that ran from that house to the 'Cribbage', where my grandmother's sister lived in the summer, and that is the house for rent. Every day when we were little my brother and I made the mini-journey down the path to visit our great aunt. I now live in Cambridge MA., and my brother lives across the field. My sister, who also owns the Cribbage lives in Washington DC. Our cousin, who also is very involved with keeping up the house lives in Littleton, MA. We have kept the spirit of the house very much as it was in the past, while also trying to make it more comfortable and practical for renters.
Why the Owner Chose Little Compton:
The 'Cribbage is a well-loved house that has been in the family for generations and was an out-building used to store corn for the big house on the corner. The carriage house in back of the big house was made into 'The Carriage House Theatre' which, in its heyday in the late 60's and 70's drew actors from New York and livened the quiet town with summer stock plays. The neighboring houses are all on the original family land, now owned by cousins on 3 sides.
The Cribbage is ideal for either a single person, a couple, or a family with children. Teenagers love the idea of sleeping in a little guest cottage. Smaller children can sleep upstairs. Set far back from the road, the setting is very safe.
The water has been treated with an elaborate filter system even though it met drinking water safety standards, to remove rust and completely purify it.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
Watch the sun rise over the crest of the field from the main bedroom. Step out of the kitchen with your cup of coffee, sit under the tree and bask in the quiet of shimmering summer mornings in total privacy.
In the evening, on the lawn in front of the house you can watch the sun drop over the river and Newport. Hear the sound of frogs croaking and peeping from the nearby pond, and the crickets singing in the fields. It is an easy walk down Taylor's Lane to watch spectacular sunsets from the beach.
