Other Daufuskie Island Properties cottage description
Come and enjoy one of most unique experiences on historic Daufuskie Island. Our grandfather Fred H. Dierks built the ‘First Key Cottage’ by hand in 1944. Fred originally built the cottage to serve island residents by opening the first General Store. Fred's wife Mae, then stepped in as the island's second postmaster and the cottage doubled as the first post office. The general store closed in the early 1960's and was then converted to a private residence. The cottage was completely renovated in 2000 (adding a large bedroom and a bathroom) and again in 2011 adding a huge sundeck and outdoor shower with a covered gas grill. It is located within 250 feet of Marshside Mama’s Restaurant! And, it is about 800 feet from the Daufuskie Public Dock. On Daufuskie, you and your family will enjoy visits to the beach, the Daufuskie Farm, the Art Gallery, the Pottery Shop, the T-Shirt Shop, the Iron Fish, Haig Point Beach Club, Freeport Marina, and Marshside Mama’s Restaurant. Fish or crab on the Public Dock – go for nature walks, or bike riding. You will take pleasure in ending your day or beginning your evening with one of the most beautiful sunsets in the world! This vacation will take you back to nights by the fire or on the deck, visiting with family and friends under the stars. Come experience Daufuskie and enjoy this serene step back in time. Transportation to/from the island from Savannah is available thru Bull River Marine at (912)897-7300 with Mr. Gary Hill. The cost is $225 (1-6 people) round trip. Golf Cart Rental is available thru me with Bloody Point Resort at discounted prices.

About the owner: The First Key Cottage has been in our family for generations. Through the years, we have been blessed to make memories with family and friends on this beautiful island. Being from Savannah, we are able to get over to the island in just 20 minutes by boat.
Why the Owner Chose Other Daufuskie Island Properties: This property was purchased by our grandparents in 1944. They lived on this remote island self-sufficiantly with the local islanders. They saw a need for a grocery store and post office. This historic cottage has now been renovated for today's modern family.
