Pros- Lovely decor, great location and all the amenities. Truly enjoyed our stay!! Cons- We didn't want to leave but reality was calling! PS We really felt welcomed when we arrived much later than expected and found the porch light, inside lamp and the electric fireplace lit!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

This is our 3rd VRBO in Salida and the best by far! We come down from Longmont every year over my sister and brother in laws spring break to play in Salida, ride Monarch and enjoy the local brews. We will be back again!! In fact when we saw the design and "Hoss" sign in the kitchen we thought you guys were a lot like us + 1 Pug and -1 todler. :) Great place, very comfy and convenient to everything we need. Thanks for having us! PS The organic soaps and cleaning supplies are fantastic!!! Side Note: My sisters friends that we had dinner with at the cantina (Boathouse Cantina) next door said, "That would be a sweet place to stay." We bragged, "We are!" Plus you have a great beer shop on the other side of the wall!!!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Your place is lovely and just as described on VRBO. Your extras, lotion, shampoo, etc. add a nice touch. We have a home in the Black Hills of South Dakota that we rent and we were given some good ideas from your place that we will adopt. A very welcoming, hospitable and charming place! Thank you for making our stay in Salida perfect! We hope to return.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Rocco's was GREAT for a long Valentine/President's Day weekend. The riverwalk is really just steps from the door with the park very close. The location is within walking distance of entertainment, grocery store, art galleries, drug store, and great food. There is a ton of history and sights of interest in and around Salida, so lots to do. The home is clean and looks just like the pictures on VRBO with lots of extras. The bed is very comfortable - didn't lose any sleep on the first night like you sometimes do in a new place. We termed the decor rustic upscale with very nice pine cabinets vs stainless steel - we loved it. Everything was spotless. The kitchen is well equipped with about anything you need if you choose to eat in. the owner made some great recommendations for Valentine's dinner, including needing reservations (that was extremely helpful because we would not have thought that necessary in Salida). So, be sure to step out to the great places close by for some great food, drink, and live music when not enjoying the comforts of 'home' at Rocco's.Recommended for: Age 55+, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

House was perfect, slept like a rock in that bed, and everything was in great shape. Clean and comfortable, and cool decor. Worth the extra money to stay here and use as base camp for exploring the surrounding mountains, trails, and rivers.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Dear Chad and Angela, We knew this would be a great vacation but, this town and Rocco's exceeded all of our expectations. This place is perfectly located in heart of town and on the river. Walking distance to anywhere we wanted to be. It is in immaculate condition and any and all conveniences for a relaxing stay. And the most comfortable bed! We actually slept over 8 hours straight and haven't done that in years. Can't wait to come back. Really loved Salida also. Beautiful area and very friendly people. Thanks for a fabulous stay.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Lynn, Thank you very much for the review. It was very nice to meet you and I am glad that you found Salida and your accommodations to be so amazing. We look forward to your next visit. Chad and Angela

My girlfriend and I and my catahoula, Daisy, stayed at Rocco's from August 17th to 19th. We had never been to Salida and were there for the Vuelta a Salida road bike ride on August 18. The pictures of the place do not do it justice. Rocco's is very spacious, was exceptionally clean, and was the perfect place for us to stay. If you travel with your four legged companions, this is the perfect place for you. Rocco's has a large mud room with ample storage room for bikes and for your dog(s) to stay when you are out and about. The mudroom has a lockable doggie door to the patio area and also another doggie door for access to the main living quarters. Rocco's was not my girlfriend's first choice for our stay in Salida (she prefers a more secluded area away from the city), but after staying there, she wants to go there whenever we return to Salida. One concern was no mention of climate control, but after talking to the owner I was informed that the building is cooled by a swamp cooler, and the temperature inside was perfect. As for the noise associated with a small, but busy downtown, the condo is quiet and the bedroom is especially secluded and very quiet. I notice that since our stay another reviewer has complained of a urine smell in the bedroom. I can vouch for Rocco's that we had no such issues during our stay and the accommodations were top-notch. The owners had excellent communication before and after our stay. I stopped by the liquor store to tell the owner how much we loved the place, but unfortunately we didn't cross paths during our stay. My only concern with writing this revieiw is that we won't be able to book Rocco's in the future because it is so desireable. If you are considering this place for your stay in Salida, BOOK IT. You will not be disappointed. The condo is fantastic and the location cannot be beat.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Andrew, Thank you very much for your kind words. We work very hard and take a lot of pride in Rocco's place so it is so nice to know that it shows. We are glad you enjoyed your time in Salida and can't wait to have you back! Regards, Chad and Angela Hixon

Chad and Angela, Thank you so much for such a special unexpected weekend getaway. You have created such a great spot to spend a vacation in CO. There is so much thought that went into the details to make it homey and comfortable. You have truly thought about your guests experience. We hope to return soon! :) Thanks again! Location
Owner info
Year Purchased: 2003
About the owner: I am the manager/owner of Arlie Dale's Jug Liquors and a guide at Monarch Snowcat Tours in the winter. Born and raised in the area my family purchased this property and we re-opened the front Liquor Store. The front half of this building location is the oldest liquor store location in Salida,CO. (with the back half being the patio home) I have been living in the back apartment with my wife Angela and two dogs Quik and Rocco for the past nine years. While being close to work and in the middle of it all has been fun we are were ready to move on and share this space with more people. We hope you enjoy it as much as we have.
Why the Owner Chose Salida:
We purchased this live/work property because at the time Salida had no liquor stores in the downtown area. This location had historically been a liquor store since prohibition ended except the two years prior to when we purchased it.
The Unique Benefits at this Apartment:
Being an avid kayaker at the time of the purchase life couldn't have been much sweeter for me. Living in a live/work unit that is a liquor store steps from the Salida Whitewater Park was a dream come true! Working on the space with my family and making it ours has been an experience of a lifetime. We hope you enjoy it!
