Magnificent 3 or 4-Bedroom Villa on the Beach in Candidasa
- Minimum stay:2 nights
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:No
- Wheel chair accessible:No
Villa Cocoa Maya is a new luxury villa on the Candidasa seafront, set just 20 metres back from one of the town’s very few stretches of sand beach. It has magnificent, sweeping views across the Lombok Strait and is home to a number of internationally celebrated dive sites. Decorated in an eclectic mix of contemporary and traditional Balinese furniture, the luxurious furnishings and free-flowing architectural styling provide a relaxed and comfortable haven. The villa’s four extremely spacious bedroom suites each have their own bathroom and large lounge areas with their own unsurpassed ocean views. Three of the suites also have a balcony. Two extra mattresses are available for a maximum of ten guests to enjoy the villa. In addition there is an open-plan, inside living/dining area, as well as a large outdoor covered lounge set back from the sea, and a dining terrace situated closer to the ocean. The spacious garden is complemented by the massive 18m long infinity swimming pool.
Bedroom Suites
All four of the spacious and light bedroom suites are fitted with king-size beds, bedside tables and lamps, air conditioning, flat-screen TVs, and DVD players. A choice of pillow types is available and all bed linen is pure cotton. Ample cupboard space is provided and each suite has a large open-plan seating area with comfortable sofas. The bedrooms are decorated in an eclectic mix of contemporary and traditional Balinese furniture and artwork.
Joglo Suite
The master suite, the only accommodation on the top storeyf the villa, is the piéce de resistance, not only of Villa Cocoa Maya but, we like to think, the whole of Candidasa! To our knowledge this is the only property in Candidasa which incorporates a Javanese joglo as a bedroom and, as an added bonus, has unequalled mountain and ocean views!
A joglo is a wooden frame building built from solid teak, using only joinery. The Javanese designed these knock-down buildings to represent the best of human traits. As such different parts of the building represent different things. Individually built, each joglo is unique, with the carving style and structural details being decided by the craftsman. The joglo in Villa Cocoa Maya is a magnificent example of Javanese craftsmanship and carving.
The bedroom’s special feel is further enhanced by wrap-around windows, and glass sliding doors that lead onto a large private balcony. Views from the Joglo suite stretch across the Lombok Strait to the Blue Lagoon peninsula, Nusa Lembongan, Nusa Penida, and even the island of Lombok itself on a clear day.
In keeping with the history of the overarching structure, the romantic 120m² Joglo suite is appointed with a solid teak four-poster bed, overhung by a mosquito net. In addition there is a day bed on which to relax, a desk at which to work, a flat screen television, DVD player, air conditioner and a fully stocked bar fridge. On the large balcony there is outdoor furniture on which to relax, where you can enjoy early morning coffee or evening cocktails. The bathroom has an enclosed toilet, a basin, a bath and an ‘open-to-the-stars’ shower.
Gamelan Suite
Situated on the first floor of the villa, the 56m² bedroom in the Gamelan suite has its own furnished balcony – leading from glass sliding doors – on which to relax, while drinking in the magnificent ocean views. It also has a beautiful king-size four-poster bed with a mosquito net; and an open-plan sitting area with a comfortable L-shaped rattan lounge suite. There is air conditioning, a ceiling fan, a flat-screen television and a DVD player in the suite and a shared, fully stocked, bar fridge is available on the landing between the Ikat and Gamelan suites. The large bathroom has an enclosed toilet, a basin and a shower.
Ikat Suite
Situated on the first floor next to the Gamelan suite, the bedroom in this suite measures 56m². Furnished with a contemporary king-size Balinese bed and a comfortable L-shaped rattan sofa set, this bedroom has wrap-around glass windows from which to admire the ocean views. There is air conditioning, a ceiling fan, a flat-screen television and a DVD player in the suite and a shared, fully stocked, bar fridge is available on the landing between the Ikat and Gamelan rooms. The bathroom comprises a toilet, a shower and a basin.
Garden Suite
Situated on the ground floor, this 60m² bedroom leads directly, via glass sliding doors, out onto a patio, the garden, pool and the sea. The suite has a contemporary king-size bed and an open-plan sitting area with a comfortable sofa on which to relax. The bedroom also has a fully-stocked bar fridge, an air conditioner, a ceiling fan, television and a DVD player. The spacious bathroom has an enclosed toilet, basin and shower.

We could not have asked or wished for a better location, with the pool and ocean at our doorstep! We have thoroughly enjoyed our 8 days here and would definitely come back again. Thanks to the amazing staff, especially our cooks Ketut, Komang and Made, who made beautiful Balinese food and always looked after us extremely well. Thank you to Nyoman who made us feel secure and didn’t mind a chat at night! Already sad to go. Markus and family, Melbourne, AustraliaDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Seriously, the penthouse suite alone is worth $5000 a night for the 180 degree panoramic view of the Indian Ocean and coastline. Add in the fabulous gracious staff who looked after our every need for cooking, massaging and keeping everything spotless and safe, and this is a priceless experience. We will take this back in our minds-eye when we return to snowy, freezing Canada. “Do not look for happiness - welcome to Cocoa Maya!” Peter and Shelley, Edmonton, CanadaDid you find this review helpful? About the owner: David and I (Mailie) are born-and-bred South Africans who live in Johannesburg, South Africa with our two little boys, Adam and Jed.
Why the Owner Chose Candi Dasa:
David first visited Bali 17 years ago from South Africa, where we live, and fell in love with the island, its beauty and its people. He continued to visit over the years and we also honeymooned there. It has been our staple family holiday destination ever since - now with our two little boys, Adam and Jed.
Over the years David was increasingly keen to buy property in Bali but the position had to be just right! For years we had stood on the undeveloped piece of land on the shores of the most beautiful white sand beach in Candidasa and fantasised about owning it. In the wonderful ways that the universe often works, we by chance met a Canadian Alan, who lives on the island with his beautiful Balinese wife and their two daughters. He not only owned 'our' perfect piece of land in Candidasa but offered to help build our beautiful villa! And so a wonderful project came to fruitition - Villa Cocoa Maya!
The Unique Benefits at this Villa:
The villa's position is unsurpassed. Because oceanfront land (and even more so, beachfront land) is so difficult to get in Candidasa today, most front row properties - even the hotels - tend to have long narrow properties. However, because Alan owned this land for twelve years before building on it, we are fortunate enough to have a very large double stand with both a large garden and beach frontage. Because we're right on the beach our kids have the choice of swimming in the sea or in the pool. The snorkelling is right off the beach (the fish are fantastic!) and our guests can be picked up by our friend Maciej (who owns a brilliant dive school in Candidasa) right on the beach without having to hump their dive equipment anywhere!
The highlight of the villa for me is the Joglo Suite, so named because we literally reconstructed an antique joglo, which David sourced from Java, at the top of the house. It's made of teak (you have to see the wood carving to believe it!) and we finished it with a massive four-poster teak bed and huge wrap-around glass windows and doors, so you can appreciate the magnificent sea views across the Lombok Strait both from the room and the balcony. I feel like we're back on honeymoon when I'm there!
And if I'm perfectly honest, it doesn't hurt to have our delightful staff on hand to do the housekeeping and serve us delicious Balinese food either - we're on holiday after all!
