Accommodations: House, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath (Sleeps 2-4)
Keywords: Home
This beautiful one bedroom home lies in the heart of the tropical district of Puna on the Big Island of Hawaii. Situated in Leilani Estates, one of the more upscale communities in the area, this home features an entire acre of land on which to relax, unwind and get away from it all. Smell the plumeria, gaze upon the hundreds of wild orchids surrounding the property, and let the tropical birds welcome you with their song.
Then, when you're good and rested, check out the wonderful nearby places to visit. Start with Old Pahoa Town, with 11 multi-national restaurants to choose from and an extremely well stocked Natural Foods store. Expand to the surrounding Puna district and visit the world famous Kapoho snorkeling ponds, the Red Road to Kalapana and its natural hot ponds (fed by the island's volcanic activity), and Lava Tree State park.
Within an hour or so you could be in lovely Volcano, situated near the rim of the Kilauea Crater and on your way to viewing the ongoing lava activity in Volcano National Park (ongoing for 20 plus years!).
If you ever feel the need to leave the Puna district (why leave paradise?), there's plenty more to see. Waimea town, social center of the famous Parker Ranch, Kailua-Kona and it's shopping meccas, Kawi and gorgeous scenery, arts and crafts that it has to offer. Waterfalls, helicopter rides, para-sailing, hiking, kayaking, Hamakua Coast...

Why the Owner Chose Pahoa
Pahoa is the last affordable place in the Hawaiian islands. It is also very quiet, rural and far from the maddening crowd. If you're a tourist that likes to get away from all the tourists, the is the place to be.
The Unique Benefits at this House
The house is in a very quiet neighborhood and it is set back from the road 2/3 of the length of the lot. As such, you have a nice feeling of being away from it all. The house is also situation in a section of Leilani Estates that had a big fire several years ago. As such, it is not as lush and other parts of Leilani and therefore has fewer mosquitos and more sunshine.
Owner's Map of Pahoa
I am a former New York actor turned computer programmer. Having grown up on Oahu, I have always had emotional ties with the islands. In 2003, I was fortunate to be able to acquire the house and an additional 15 acres in nearby Pahoa. I am very interested in sustainable living. The house already uses rainwater and it is heated by the sun. The next step will be PV solar panels and an organic garden.

I stayed here in August 2010 for a little less than a week. I found the listing to be accurate and the communication excellent. I am making plans to return in 2011 that is how much I enjoyed my stay. In my opinion this is not to much of a family with kids kind of place but more of a couples place that wish to be close to nature. There are many things to do around the area but you have to have a car and this place has a nice car port that connects to the back entrance which was very welcomed as it rains often but its welcomed rain as it completes the flavor of the place. Get detailed directions form the owner it proved to be the best thing I did, as it's easy to get turned around in that area. The actual property description and photos are as advertised. There was hot and clean water for those of us who care about that, everything is "rural clean", meaning do not expect to find polished furniture and every inch of the home mirror clean. There are many critters but non seem to be a bother, if you hate bugs, frogs, etc then you may not like the place. Retired and solo travelers may find this place a great deal. If you like to jog, walk or bike. this place is a dream paved roads decent signage and acceptable lighting at night if moon is full. We met some of the locals that were quick to greet and smile. A couple even loaned us their bikes for the morning was just great! Many dogs in the area so if you travel with your dog keep that in mind (not sure if owner allows pets anyway). Conclusion. Everything we needed was there and not once did we have a complain or ... I wish they... moments. Recommend.

This place was great!! the place is actually bigger than the pictures, and yards are huge!! you have a great view of the yard.it is very private and secluded. you can relax and enjoy your morning cup of coffee outside. Internet works great also. The house is very clean and organized. lots of big windows and screen doors so that no bugs come in, but nice breeze...the owner was very nice and answered all the questions I asked right away. The experience of my stay in this house was way more than I expected. very close to the ocean, red road, lava tree park(which was my favorite place to go for a run), tide pool, volcano national park, volcano viewing point, steam vent, town of pahoa, also sunday market and more...when I have a chance to come back here, I will definitely come back to this house. thank you so much for the wonderful stay!!

This is a charming retreat. Once you go down the long, lava-rock driveway, you really feel like you are away from it all. Yet you are close to all major attractions on the east side by car. The house is full of interesting wall treatments, the living room is comfortable, the bedroom is light and airy, and the kitchen is spacious and well-equipped. I enjoyed being serenaded by the coqui frogs at night. It is a great place to hang out and unwind.

The cottage was clean spacious and really enhanced our stay on the big island. The photos and description in the add were all that and more. I would highly recommend this to family, friends or anyone without hesitation! It really has a Hawai'i feeling and the nearby hot pools are great.

If you are looking for a cozy, clean, well-kept, and affordable place to experience the wonders of Pahoa, then this is the place for you! Not only is this home close to all of the local attractions--farmers market, beach access, and hot ponds--it also affords its occupants the privacy to enjoy the beauty of Big Island sunrises, sunsets, flora, and fauna. Top it all off with a WONDERFUL--helpful and cheery--caretaker and you are sure to enjoy this home as much as we did during our stay.

First - I do not know and have never met the owner - this review is completely without bias. 1. Everything was exactly as depicted, there was not a single unwelcome surprise in the property, the transactions or anything else. 2. The property is well maintained, laid out and cared for - the folks who manage this place do a really excellent job, including supplies of everything we might need - and everything ran perfectly. 3. It is out of the way just enough to be secluded, yet close to everything we needed (including the ocean, parks, Wal-Mart and Home Depot!) We slept like rocks every night, the temperature was perfect day and night and the trees overhanging the road (Pahoa to Pohoiki) were beautitul. 4. We will definitely rent this property again and would recommend it to our friends without hesitation! 5. Over the years we have rented many places but I would say this was the best experience (and most reasonable) we have ever had - and far better than a hotel!
