  This is must on anyone list of places to stay in Belize. My husband and I stayed at the Surfside Escape for 5 nights. Probably one of the most relaxing places that we have ever been, Brian and Ruby were the best from taking care of us upon a late arrival to the day we had to leave. Brian and Ruby were very helpful in arranging things for us to do and answering all the questions, including letting us know about Tootie Fruitie - excellence Gelato.. Good call !! The bungalow was very clean and modern with a full kitchen and relaxing, we really enjoyed sitting out on the deck each morning and evening. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained even the weird sponge grass by the pool. All meals from breakfast to dinner, were excellent, make sure you are there on Sunday night for the pizza!! This is the place to stay. It's far enough away from town for the peace and quite but close enough to go to town at a moments notice. We will be staying with Brian again in the next months. HIGHLY RECOMMEND SURFSIDE ESCAPE!! THANKS AGAIN Brian and Ruby !!!!

  We spent 8 nights at Surfside Escape over Christmas holidays last year and had an absolutely wonderful time. It was our second vacation in Belize, and very happy with choosing the resort (location perfect and resort quiet with exceptional hospitality) Highlights of the resort include beautifully spacious villas/casas (we were generously upgraded due to renovations in smaller casa) Views of lagoon with wildlife and gardens were nicely manicured and well maintained. Safe, convenient and secure location of resort with an owner/manager (Brian) on hand to answer any questions you might have about local bars, restaurants, tours. We lost count of the number of occasions that he offered to help in any way imaginable. He even went to get 'magic ointment' from town to help relieve some of our little bugs bites! We were some of Brian's first visitors and felt completely comfortable asking for 'special daily requests'. Launching paddle boats to explore the lagoon, special dietary requests (never an issue, thanks to accomplished kitchen crew), just quiet time at the pool with endless supply of cocktails being served to us.... Watch out for those "panty-rippers" and "painkillers" The drive from Belize City Airport to the resort is about 3 hours, through beautiful countryside and although the roads are sometimes narrow and perhaps slow going if weather is bad (raining), we generally enjoyed this part of the trip. For a confident driver it's easy to consider getting to the resort this way if a connecting flight to Placencia is not an option for you. Plan gas stops. There aren't many stations outside of main towns. Gas is priced comparably to US (maybe slightly higher sometimes). All photographs and information you will receive from Brian is exactly as you will find the resort. Even during renovation the resort appeared well maintained and even 'work noise' was considered by the crew whilst we were relaxing by the pool (Brian would check to find out if we could hear the minor work in progress as to satisfy his wish that we would leave well rested). All in all we appreciate the general professionalism, value, quality and comfort of the entire resort and its people during our stay, needless to say we recommend to any tourist to Belize and we hope to return soon.   My husband and I had the pleasure of staying at the Surfside Escape for just under 1 month for our first trip to Belize. We were a little hesitant to book a place that was recently purchased by Brian but we left overjoyed with our choice! Brian, from the beginning, was very prompt in returning emails & phone calls when setting up our reservations & was very helpful with all my questions about Belize. We stayed in the Casa Main which was more than enough room for the two of us (we felt like we were living in a mansion!). The bed was very comfortable & we appreciated the overhead fans throughout the casa. We found ourselves waking up with the sun each morning because of the open floor plan & always felt well rested in this tropical paradise. Although all the casas were booked while we were there, it never felt crowded & we had a blast with the other guests seeing what adventures we could go on! We usually had the pool to ourselves & time spent down at the dock on the lagoon side was always relaxing. We didn't spend a ton of time on the Caribbean beach side other than it is a beautiful walk along the water towards Coco Plum. Brian was also very helpful in suggesting & helping us find a place that rented HobiCats for the day. Between the HobiCat & diving with Avadon Divers we spent lots of time on the water! The resort is about 7-8 miles from the main town of Placencia. We thought it was an easy bike ride however we had some difficulties with the bikes while we were there which made transportation more difficult. Brian was quick to bring the bikes in & they looked good as new by the end of our time. Brian & Ruby were also very generous in allowing us to ride into town with them or would combine trips to get us where we needed. We ended up renting a scooter for a few days & shared a car for the weekend with one of the other couples which I would recommend if staying longer than a couple of weeks. By car, the southern ruins, Chocolate farm (a favorite!) and Spice farm are easily done in a day trip! For the moderately fit, the ATM cave adventure is a must! The food was also amazing! The included breakfast was fabulous each morning and we were never disappointed with the dinners made by Radford. He is really a top rate chef! I unfortunately got the flu while we were there and he even made me homemade chicken soup! Pizza night with Brian and Ruby was always a crowd favorite as well! We will definitely would stay here again! Thanks Brian for everything!

  Brian and his staff are very friendly and welcoming to Surfside this was our first experience in belize and I have to say we are already thinking of the next trip.. I look forward to meeting Brian and Ruby again sometime in 2014 with surfside as our focal point, Surfside was refreshing and relaxing and not far from any amenity that you would need on holiday. The photo's on the website definately do NOT give the charm and personality of the thatch homes, we figured the Casa Main was large enough to accomodate our family of 5 with 2 teenage boys, but when we actually arrived the Casa was incredibly huge and more than what we expected we could have had a couple of our friends join us as there was so much room. I would have to say that above all the kind nature of the staff and the pleasantness and helpfulness of the owner to help us acomodate any excursion that we wished to explore was top notch and I would 100% recommend not only surf side but Belize in general to all of our friends and family Great job to you Brian and your establishement we had an amazing time and look forward to seeing you again in 2014

  I can't say enough great things about Surfside Escape. The grounds and bungalows are even more beautiful than the pictures let on...you really need to see this place to realize its beauty. We felt like we were the only ones there most of the time, even though they were fully booked! There is ample privacy, between your own (awesome) bungalow and deck, several picturesque lounge areas including one off the long dock, the small bar & restaurant, whirlpool, and pool. Brian, the owner, and staff Rubi and Mattias are three of the most attentive and genuinely thoughtful people I've had the chance to meet in awhile. Brian went above and beyond to make our trip in Placencia effortless. He helped us book TropicAir flights, car and scooter rentals, boating tours (try the Monkey River tour with Ralph!), and responded immediately with any additional requests or questions. Surfside's location is perfect - between the main town of Placencia and Maya Beach, a short drive from Placencia airport. Mayan ruins, cave tubing, and ziplining are a short drive away. Highly recommended! The interior of our bungalow was spotless and tastefully decorated, and so much more spacious than I thought it would be! The whole place, especially the shower and bathroom, was very recently remodeled. Guests can use the bikes, man-powered boats, and golf carts on the property to explore the area. Placencia was SO fun. A long dock leads out to a large covered lounge area on top of the lagoon. We often enjoyed our coffee or meals out here, looked out across the water for a chance to see manatee or dolphins, and counted a wide array of birds and marine creatures that live right outside your back door. The beach is a short stroll across the road. We usually had the pool to ourselves - a relaxing swim surrounded by fountains and Belizean greenery alone is reason enough to stay there. Mattias was a wonderful chef. I looked forward to breakfast each morning - your choice of meals from a delicious and well-planned menu that will satisfy even the pickiest eater. We had lobster one night. YUM. I'll think about that meal often, for a long, long time. Rubi's drinks were delicious! Try her famous "Painkiller", you'll feel a sense of real Caribbean-ness (followed by a sense of real tipsy-ness). They'll deliver your drinks and food to your bungalow, the pool, dock, or one of the lounge areas. Rough life. Thank you so much for everything, Brian, Rubi, and Mattias! I really want to go back..right now.

  Our stay at this property can be described only in superlatives. As a family with three college kids, we were looking for a calm private place with a welcoming atmosphere as well as for a cozy and safe base to venture for our sightseeing tours from. Surfside Escape turned out to be the perfect fit. The whole property is spotless and very well equipped. Countless private nooks scattered around the grounds are ideal for reading, meditating, or undisturbed relaxation. The pristine swimming pool is a great place to cool down in the middle of a hot day. Possible leisure activities include exploration of the adjacent lagoon or nearby beach (just across the street), strolls within the neighboring community, or sightseeing excursions (near & far; with or without a guide). Finally, the free WiFi and cable TV help to fill any void in the entertainment schedule. From the moment we arrived at the resort, we felt welcomed and appreciated. The owner and manager, Brian, was very friendly and very helpful. Him and his staff (especially Matias and Rubi) catered to our every need and made our entire stay on the premises extremely enjoyable. Even though our stay at the Surfside Escape was relatively brief (5 days), it was packed with new experiences and adventures. Brian helped us book different excursions with a very knowledgeable and attentive guide, Ralph. We went exploring the jungle by the Monkey River, snorkeling by the nearby coral reefs, and river tubing and zip-lining throughout the southern part of the country. The meals served at the bar/restaurant each day would deserve a separate review. All of them were very tasty and very appealing. Along with the skilfully mixed beverages and the friendly service (+ regular late night chats), they provided a crown for each and every evening. Our stay at Surfside Escape was very pleasant and memorable. We highly recommend this property to travelers of all ages and interests.

  My family and I stayed at the Surfside Escape for 5 nights in December, 2012. We were two adults and two kids (7 and 5 years old). I highly recommend staying at Surfside Escape. Everything is new or newly remodeled and extremely clean. We had a nearby beach to swim, snorkel or hang out, a swimming pool on the premises, a restaurant/bar on the premises, as well as a dock on the "lagoon" and a paddle boat to use. There was also satellite TV and wireless. The property is set up with individual bungalows so it's private but still like a resort with all of the amenities that are necessary. We were the only visitors at that time. Our kitchen was well-equipped and great for cooking meals. There are many places to just hang out and relax. The dock on the lagoon provides an excellent view of the sunset. We loved the entire property as well as the staff and the owner, Brian. They were very helpful in making our stay the most comfortable possible. Brian is very friendly and considerate about making sure we were happy and satisfied. It was almost like staying at the property of a friend. We just felt at home the whole time. Brian was also helpful in booking outstanding tours for us with a tour guide named Ralph (don't know his last name but highly recommend him!). He arranged private boat tours to the nearby Monkey River which was awesome. On another day we went snorkeling way out in the Caribbean Sea at some private islands. Ralph stayed with us and made sure we had a great experience while snorkeling. Matias, the chef, made the most wonderful breakfast for us each morning as well as dinner on three occasions. The food was top-notch! I even pried a few recipes out of him. We spent a few days exploring the town of Placencia (at the end of the peninsula). That was plenty of time for us to hang out there (it's interesting but definitely a tourist trap) and we were happy to be located away from the masses of tourists. The government is building a huge cruise ship dock so the town will really be inundated with tourists in a year or so. It's good for the local economy but not so much for the peace and quiet. If you want peace and tranquility with a dose of luxury, stay at Surfside Escape!
