Didn't Want to Leave!
Didn't Want to Leave!
This place was perfect for our weekend. We were right on the lake, which made it fast and easy going out on the boat every morning. It is conveniently located close to a gas station and grocery store. Wistful Vista was roomy, very beautifully decorated, and had everything we needed. Bedroom that led out to deck was so nice. There is a huge yard in front and back for kids to play. Has a huge basement with activities for children and a beautfiful library. The lady who welcomed us was very friendly and informative about where we could eat and shop. Nights I didn't want to cook, there is a great Chinese and pizza place right down the street. Our kids didn't want to leave. I wanted all the antique furniture and my husband wanted to stay so he could be on the boat every day. Thanks for a great place to vacation!

Best vacation ever at Wistful Vista. We decided to arrive a day early to set up and enjoy more of the weekend since some of our vacationers were actually working in the DC during the week. Two families and a few extras tagged along. On any given day rain or shine we had a house full of college students enjoying their last days before college started. We ate, played games inside and out, talked, walked, watched Olympics, slept, ate, worked, rowed, kayaked, swam, floated, bird watched, sunbathed, roasted marshmallows around a firepit (we brought with us) camped in a tent, watched fireworks, listened to the cows, enjoyed the very warm water and most of all enjoyed each other. Wonderful. None of us wanted to leave. If you could say we had issues maybe the spiders however spiders are a part of living on lakes. We are so ready to go back and have actually discussed a possible trip to Wistful Vista soon.

The house was pretty much ready, except oddly the agent brought someone through to look at it around 4pm the day we arrived (check-in was at 3!). Excuse me, but we were paying for that time? In addition, someone had called (the owner?) for someone to provide an estimate on something on the property, which resulted in an unknown man walking through the back yard the next morning. This was very in appropriate; if my teens had been there alone they would have been terrified! I see no reason for either of these. Finally, the downstairs bathroom was not clean enough to use (flies in the shower!) and the bed in the master bedroom was HORRIBLE! Felt like trying to sleep on a brick. Oh, and there are ants in the kitchen. Lovely!

Manager response: We appreciate the four star rating and regret the inconveniences. The gentleman who visited the property was there to give a painting estimate for the gazebo and he says that he announced the reason for his visit. Such informality is common among contractors in the country, but we're sorry if his short visit caused a problem. We try very hard to keep the insects in check and will look into the ant problem. It is sometimes an unavoidable issue when food is left out and there is constant traffic between the deck and the kitchen. As for the bed, this is the first complaint from dozens of renters and owners' guests who have stayed at the house. It is a firm mattress chosen for its therapeutic benefits for chronic back problems. We appreciate the constructive criticisms and are glad that the stay overall was lovely.

Year Purchased: 1988
About: Jane and Michael Duffy have lived in Washington, DC since the late-1960s. 'Wistful Vista,' their Lake Anna home, was built in 1988 as a weekend retreat for their family and friends. Now, as empty nesters who plan to spend most of their summers in Montana, they are eager to share this lovely home with others seeking a quiet and restful retreat from work, school and the daily grind.
Why Lake Anna:
Having grown up Montana, Michael was eager to find a place away from the city. Jane's family had a lake house in New Jersey. They found the answer to their dreams in 'Wistful Vista.'
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The home and landscaping have been designed so that guests think they have the lake to themselves. There are numerous areas for quiet relaxation and contemplation among the towering trees and flowering shrubs.
