  My husband and I stayed in the north side and it was perfect. No TV was great! Lots of DVDs if needed but we just read books and hiked. Very clean and a great shower too. The bed was comfy and even tho there were no blinds on the windows we still slept in... The hikes helped I'm sure. Looked out the window and there was the AT! Ate at the smokey mountain diner and it was delicious. Hope we can make it back... Very relaxing.

  Recommended for: Adventure seekers, girls getaway, romantic getaway.

We had never thought about blinds for the windows in the bedroom because they look out on the beautiful mountains and trees and are so high in elevation that there is no concern about privacy. But you are right to alert us that the light could rouse a sleepy traveler and so we'll look into adding them as an option. Like you, we suspect that most guests sleep so well that the dawning light does not wake them. Come back again and happy hiking!

  If you are looking for a neat hideaway that is still close to Asheville, this is it! Literally steps away from the AT, this snug little cottage is all the privacy you could want! The owners have taken great care to maximize the space in essentially, what could be described as a duplex. There is a connecting door between the two rental spaces, which makes this great as a multi family rental, or simply as a romantic getaway. The description provided by the owner is completely accurate and I would highly recommend this rental!

  Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

  Everything you see on the pictures is true: this cottage is really charming and the details and atmosphere are great! We were planning to book the whole cottage (south and north side), but due to a double booking we could only rent the south side. We discussed with the reservation that we were with 4 adults and two kids, but the south side was a little too small for that, as we realized when we checked in. We also brought groceries to cook a meal at the night of arrival, but we found out that there was no gas stove, which we were not prepared for. We used the slow cooker, but that was real real slow! We also didn't realize that there was only a jacuzzi and no shower and that the jacuzzi was right in the bedroom (next to the bed), which was not convenient with two families and no real curtains to give privacy. What we really liked was the atmosphere, the cleanness, the tea kettle and teapot and the short walk to downtown Hot Springs, which is a nice town! We also drove up to the top of High Mountain, to the tower. And we enjoyed the spa in Hot Springs with natural warm water! The Apalachian trail is right next to the house, so this is also nice for hikers! If coming again we would rent the full house and bring a camping stove, if better prepared for it we would have totally enjoyed everything. But we might still come back, it was a lot of fun and cozy!

  Recommended for: Age 55+, tourists without a car, romantic getaway.

  Owner response: We regret any miscommunication on the booking but appreciate our guest's kind words about the cottage. The VRBO listing does not allow for mentioning kitchenettes, consisting of sink, under counter refrigerator, microwave, and other kitchen appliances--in fact, there are two kitchenettes, one in each of the two main sections of the cottage. (The only choice on a VRBO listing is for a "full" kitchen, so we have recently edited our listing to try to make it very clear that we do not have cook stoves for extensive cooking. Our reservation manager in Hot Springs can recommend other properties in the area for full kitchens.) We hope to bring a plumber friend-subcontractor over with us soon to see whether we can add a handheld shower to the whirlpool tub in the master bedroom. Originally, that part of the cottage was designed to accommodate guests--typically, singles or couples--in the large whirlpool tub where privacy would not be an issue.

  A family from Florida: We had a wonderful time hiking, relaxing, drove to Linville caverns and also went to the Biltmore Estate. Walked around downtown Hot Springs and Asheville. Lots to do around here but far enough away to relax and regain some much needed spirituality and mountain energy. We really enjoyed the cottage. Very comfortable and welcoming. Love it here!

  We enjoyed our stay here. It is so peaceful and cozy. It was our anniversary and we enjoyed whitewater rafting with NOC on the Pigeon River, hiking at Max Patch, and soaking in the Hot Springs. We will definitely return.

  Rode our motorcycles up here last Sunday and were delighted with our private “rooms.” Our cottage-mates were great and we soon had the doors open and sharing coffee, Thank you so much for supporting the Spring Creek Literacy Program. Have already recommended this place to folks back home.

  We had a great time on our birthday weekend. Walked down into town. Had some good food and beer. Fell asleep to some AT hiker playing flute in the woods. We are about to go to the Hot Springs now.

  Stayed here before and after our hike from Davenport Gap into Hot Springs. Hot Springs is one of my favorite trail towns.

  We loved staying in this cabin--it was very comfortable and well-stocked. Our favorite part was the tub! Enjoyed a morning hike on the Appalachian Trail right out the back door. The tub at the spa was wonderful. For more adventurous hikers, when you hike the Lover’s Leap trail, boulder down the ridge as far as you can go--you’ll known you’ve reached the true leap when you have a beautiful, unobstructed view of the river and town! Max Patch is also amazing--bring a windbreaker! :)

  We are visiting from Ohio. My son is hiking the AT so during my spring break my sister and I came down to see him. We “zeroed” today--meaning we did nothing after going to breakfast at the Smoky Mt Diner. It was a little rainy this morning but the rest of the time it was beautiful. We put our leftover pop & candy in the AT parking lot and enjoyed watching the hikers take their “trail magic.” This place was just what we needed--I’m glad we found it online.

  A couple from West Virginia: We had a wonderful time here in Hot Springs. We loved the cottage and all of the great things the small town had to offer. I got new handles for my axe and my maul, and some woodworking tools at the hardware store. Very nice hardware store--and we oth found things we needed at the Outfitters as well. Loved the Iron Horse and the spa. Good beer at the Iron Horse! I really enjoyed the piano here in the cottage--very nice! Quite lovely! Thanks.

  Two women AT hikers taking a break for a couple of days: Weather was beautiful. We went to Spa for massage and hot tubs ... fabulous! Love the movie collection--need more “chick flicks” :) Great collection of topo maps. We’re headed to Max Patch. Thanks again!
