My house is in beautiful West Cork on the Beara Peninsula which is steeped in myths and legends...rich in archaeological sites such as stone circles, wedge graves and other relics from the past..scenic lakes cradled by gorgeous mountains and a rugged coastline with lots of great fishing spots. Linking all this together is the Beara Way walking trail which is a circuit of side roads, boreens, bog roads and tracks.. there is also a cycling route and the Ring of Beara for those who wish to drive.
The house is on its own land with sea views on one side and mountains on the other and is a rare respite from the busy pace
of the city for visitors from across the globe.
Sleeps 6/7 with 3 double bedrooms.1.5 bathrooms. Kitchen with counter dining area. Living room with plenty comfortable seating also has dining table area. Outdoors is a large decked space with tables and chairs seats 8. Gas barbeque.

Had such a wonderful stay for 1 week over New Years. Did a lot of hill walking over Beara Way including Dursey island, Bere island, Garnish. Dursey Island is definitely worth the trip (cable car). There is a beautiful 5k loop walk starting right from house, which passes a dolphin/whale watching area. House is superb and it is even better than photos. It has Nantucket style and is light and airy. There is a lot of detail that you don't get in other rentals: Denby dishes, a good array of kitchen appliances (including a mixer), books/dvds, many towels, impecibly clean and tidy, large deck area. Spent many hours sitting in rocking chair looking out window at the waves - wonderful view. Also get a very relaxing ocean sound at night. Highly recommend this house.Recommended for: Age 55+, sightseeing, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

Owner info
About the owner: My husband and I live near Blarney close to Cork City which is 2.5 hours from our holiday home. We use the house as much as possible but not as much as we would like since our children grew up and are currently all in the U.S. We are semi retired. We both grew up in West Cork so we consider we are going 'home' when we go there.
Why the Owner Chose Castletownbere:
We bought this house with our retirement in mind and that is still the plan. In the last few years we re-styled and decorated to a high standard. My sister and her family also own a charming stone holiday cottage about 5 mins from our house and she can also let her house if needs be for extra family or friends. We make sure our trips there coincide and we have a wonderful time...eat mainly fish caught by family members and walk/hike and swim in the 2 cute beaches only 3 minutes from the house.
We take the cable car (3 minutes from house) to walk/cycle on Dursey Island.
At night we travel to ALLIHIES (nearest village 20 mins away) to enjoy the food and the Irish Music night in one or other of the pubs there. There is a lot to be discovered in Allihies by day. The Copper Mine Museum for those who want to discover the 3500 years of mining history..visit the Copper Cafe to take a break and enjoy the food..follow the Copper Mine Trail with marked walks along the mines. CASTLETOWNBERE is one of our favourite towns (20 mins away)... bustles with life, brings people from all walks of life to meet and dine in their fine pubs and restaurants..here is the biggest white fishing port in Ireland. From the harbour here you can take the ferry to BERE Island.
We usually take day trips and drive to Co. Kerry which is only 1 hours drive and has amazing scenery on the way to KENMARE and of course KILLARNEY.
