Living in a box can be boring and stultifying both to the body and the soul. Come experience living in an open atmosphere freeing mind and spirit. Come feel the relaxation of living under swaying palms with soft tropic breezes. Allow yourself the pleasure of simply sitting back and enjoy doing nothing. Allow your mind to open and swell with increased imagination. Come out of your box and feel the wonders of the tropics physically and mentally up close.
A house designed with a gourmet kitchen in the center open to the dinning area, conversation area, breakfast table, and office area. This allows window walls with wondrous views of the sea and tropical gardens in all directions. Two guest rooms, each with its own bath, are separated from the main living area on the main deck. It is large, but intimate for two people to live very comfortably.
The property is slightly over one acre (0.5 hectors) with 52 meters of shore line. It is pool table flat. While the shore primarily faces the bay, the view extends through the cut to the Caribbean and to the city of Bocas in the other direction. Our island is only mile long and 400 meters to the surf on the other side of the island (300 meters behind our property) - one of the favorites here in the archipelago. We are, however, well protected by the jungle from the crashing sound of the surf. There are no roads, thus no cars – the dogs enjoy there freedom.

Well, what can we say. Our three nights at casa sonedores were nothing short of perfect. The house is a serene getaway, just across from the hustle and bustle of Bocas town. We were welcomed with a basket of wine, local coffee and coconut bread. Lois and Ray were so funny, kind and attentive. Their list of recommendations and taxi numbers was extremely helpful seeing as we felt much less lost in town... The house is elevated and very open and spacious, with a caretakers apartment downstairs that was occupied by Ray and Lois while Ronald was on holiday for New Years. They were absolutely wonderful and totally respected our privacy, while still being present enough to help out. When one of us fell ill, R+L immediately offered to pick up medicine in town despite the fact it would have been very easy to do ourselves. Koo, the housekeeper, comes three times a week and takes care of the house except the bedrooms and kitchen, but still did our dishes when we left to go fishing (thanks!) The house was clean, the kitchen was well stocked with tools and spices (immersion blender? Hello!) and we thoroughly enjoyed their jazzy tunes. You can sit on the patio with a beer and enjoy the breeze for hours. The wifi worked perfectly while we were there. BoBo, the guardian Rottweiler, was the sweetest ever! (Don't worry-he stays downstairs!) It was SUCH a treat to come home to Lois's freshly baked triple chocolate brownies and cookies too! We highly recommend Sonedores. The house was definately very large and comfortable, but sleeping was dificult with no AC. The no-see-um type bugs were fierce. The house was filled with the owner's (Ray & Lois) personal items as it is their home. When they rent it - they stay downstairs in an apartment on the main floor. They also entered with their own key while we were renting it. The kitchen was outdated. The owners are very friendly, but also very personally attached to their home. Don Choy (recommended by owners) was a very humorous and knowledgable water taxi and tour operator. Bibi's is an excelence choice for dining on Carenaros. Lady & Mia will take good care of you.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, sightseeing.
Owner response: I feel I must clarify a particular point – air conditioning. This house is designed to accept the gentle Caribbean Sea breezes for ultimate comfort. It permits you to come out of your box of air conditioning and live exposed in the openness of the Caribbean shore under swaying palm trees. I am uncertain why there is a need for A/C when you must sleep under a light blanket to keep warm. To escape your box is one of the reasons to come to Bocas. Please look at the map of Panama and see there is no reason for Bocas to exist – no industry, no big towns, nothing but beauty and a wonderful lifestyle.

About the owner: Twelve years ago, we were cruising and arrived on our boat to dock it and land tour Costa Rica - we fell in love with Bocas del Toro and have been here ever since. We had been cruising for 6 years and said “why go any further?”. We designed the house listening to our dreams and built it ourselves. A dream of living without the need for air conditioning or screens on a lush island in a house so open you do not know if you are inside or outside.
Why the Owner Chose Carenero Island:
This property is on a small island but still has the benefits of Bocas power and water. It is separate but still enjoys the niceties of the modern world.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
We are centrally located with respect to virtually everything - airport, restaurants,and all of the activities in Bocas. There is a full time caretaker and a house keeper 3 times a week.
