Waimanalo Beach house description
Our beautiful, open plan beach house is located 300 yards from the white sands of Waimanalo beach. Walk out the driveway, turn left, and in two minutes you will be treated to an amazing view of Rabbit Island, the Mokulua Islands, and a five mile white sand beach. The ocean is a mind boggling turquoise blue, and the sandy bottom ocean is perfect for kids and families: no coral to stub your toes on! This is our home, not a vacation rental. Our bookshelf is filled with our books and our artwork is on the walls. We, of course, make room in our closets and dressers for your clothes for your stay. Vacationing in our home will be more like staying at a friend’s house while they’re away, a more pleasurable experience than renting a sterile vacation house. Our home has everything you would find in your own home: pots, pans, silverware, plates and bowls, blender, toaster, cuisinart, microwave, stove, oven, washer, dryer, etc. We also have a great stereo with an Ipod dock and indoor and outdoor speakers. The outdoor speakers provide music for the large deck off the master bedroom, where there is an outdoor dining table with seating for six. The deck looks out on the majestic Ko’olau mountains. Having coffee on the deck as the sun rises out of the ocean and shines it’s morning light on the Ko’olaus is an amazing way to start your day. Our home sleeps four adults on two California king beds, and there is a queen bed in our 5 year old son’s room. There is one bathroom with a huge mosaic tiled tub and a sunflower style showerhead. We have five large ceiling fans to keep you cool; one in every room of the house, and the master bedroom has AC should you get too hot. Our large backyard has several coconut palms and fragrant plumeria trees, providing shade and beauty throughout the day. A big hammock strung between two of the palms is ideal for reading, relaxing, or just listening to the local birdsong and enjoying the beautiful mountain view. We have two kayaks for your use, as well as an outdoor gas grill. Cable TV and wireless internet are also provided. We also have a 14’ trampoline with enclosed safety net for bouncy fun. Our home is located 30 mins from Honolulu airport, 15 mins from many Hawaii Kai where you will find many delicious restaurants, a great brewpub, several supermarkets, and an 8-plex movie theatre. Waikiki is a 25 min drive on one of the most scenic drives on the island. The North Shore and its famous beaches of Pipeline, Sunset, and Waimea, are all within an hour’s drive. Hanauma Bay, one of the best places on Oahu for snorkeling, is 10 mins from our house. Sea Life Park is 5 minutes away. Come and see why the Hawaiians call Waimanalo, “God’s country.” Rates are $200/night for up to four adults and two children, minimum three night stay in our smoke free home. Up to $125 cleaning fee, depending upon the amount of guests. Call Kilia at 808-228-5643 Aloha!

My friends and I stayed here while attending a wedding and had a horrible experience. There are tenants staying in the garage connected to the house which is not stated as well as a non working dishwasher, cockroaches, and dirty mattresses. We were misinformed about the fact we would be sharing our rental house with the tenants connected to us as well as being expected to do outside chores while on vacation. Overall this was not the vacation home we had signed up for and I highly suggest anyone interested takes a second thought as to renting from this woman. It is not accurately represented.

Owner response: Unfortunately I have to comment about this individual and her friends. My husband and I had to ask these guests to leave because they were supposed to be of four of them staying. Instead two of our neighbors reported that for the three days these guests were in our home they had two parties until past midnight with at least twenty people from around Oahu, very loud music and were smoking cigarettes on our no smoking property. The day that I came to the house to address the issue there were seven people on the property with beer bottles and cans stacked up in the kitchen, four cars parked in the driveway and on the grass and one very large truck blocking my neighbors car in so that they were unable to leave, which they said had happened the day before as well. (The owner of the truck was at the beach and unavailable to move his truck). I did not want to have to recall these events and am in the process of trying to remove her post...but I have to in order for future guests to understand the review.
A relaxing stay
A relaxing stay
We would stay here again on our next Oahu trip if it is available. The owner keeps the house very neat and tidy. We felt comfortable staying a week here. The house is very private and Waimanalo beach is just a block walk from the house. My wife and I went for our walk on the beach every morning and enjoyed talking with the occasional locals walking or fishing. I went for my afternoon swim and sun tanning floating on the boogie board provided by the owner. The owner also provided two old surf boards which one of our teenage boys floated on. (The waves were only big enough for boogie boarding during the week we stayed.). We did not try out the two kayaks that were available. There were four diners with walking distance and our boys tried out three and enjoyed them. The house was a short distance to Hawaii kai toward south and Kailua toward north. Both towns had great restaurants and shopping. We also enjoyed sitting on the back deck, drinking coffee, surfing off the wifi, listening to the birds chirping in the morning and the evening. Overall a very relaxing stay. Our college aged boys did feel that it was a bit lonely out here. But we fixed that by dropping them off at Waikiki beach (25 min) and Hanauma bay (10 min away) in the mornings and picking them up in the afternoon.

Very comfortable home
Very comfortable home
Our family loved staying in this house. It was a short walk to beautiful Waimanalo Beach. This home was very comfortable and we enjoyed eating outside on the back deck. The photos reflected the house perpectly. It had all the amenities we needed and it was a beautiful open floor plan. It was great for our 17 month old grandson also. The yard was fenced in which made it very comfortable for us and him. I would definetly recommend this property to friends who just want to get away for a nice relaxing vacation. I'm glad I found this on VRBO. Aloha Joyce

Year Purchased: 2002
About the owner: I am a former science teacher, am now working as a Marriage and Family Therapist. My husband is a pilot with Hawaiian Airlines, and was a pilot with Aloha Airlines for many years before that. We bought this house because we love the ocean and the mountains and being away from the hustle and bustle of town, but like that we can get to Honolulu in 30 minutes when we want to. We play in the ocean with our 5 yeard old son almost every day and eat almost every meal on our deck, looking at the beautiful Ko'olau mountains. We LOVE living in Waimanalo, and you will LOVE staying here too!
Why the Owner Chose Waimanalo Beach:
We only rent our house out when we travel. The rest of the year, this is our home. Everyone who has stayed here has loved that it is more like staying at a friend's home, rather than a sterile vacation house. Lots of artwork and fun photos, a bookshelf full of books, etc
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The yard is completely private and fenced in and has a latched gate. It is peace of mind for us with our 5 yr old and if you stay here and you have kids or a dog, you don't have to worry about them getting out when you aren't watching.
