A 6 minute walk/3 minute bike ride to the beach, this 1920’s 1656 square foot classic Bay Head Beach house will take you back to the days when people spent the evenings on their porches, walking through the neighborhoods. This is a perfect family rental that is affordable! You don’t even need a rental car! It’s a 2 minute walk to the RR station, a 2.5hr train ride to NYC and 2hrs to Newark Airport! For shopping you can use our bikes to get around Bay Head or our neighboring town of Point Pleasant. If you do have a car, Philadelphia is 1.5hrs away, Atlantic City 1.5hrs and Princeton 1hr. There is a screened-in front porch where you can spend your evenings talking, reading or simply enjoying the night. It is on 2 lots and has a large side-yard. We have equipment for a number of lawn sports so you can play or entertain. There is also a gas barbeque grille. We have begun upgrading the interior with new furniture in the living room, porch and bedrooms. It has a nice size living room dining area with a gas fireplace, TV, DVD player and Wifi. It sleeps 6 with 3 bedrooms upstairs: 2 rooms have twin beds and one a queen. Downstairs you can sleep 2 more. All the rooms have air conditioners and overhead fans. The upstairs bathroom has a tub/shower combination. The built-in seats in the living room can also be used to sleep 2. The kitchen is fully equipped with a table and chairs for eating. It also has a washer and dryer. In the back, there is an outside shower to wash off the beach sand.
The neighborhood is a mixture of old Bay Head and modern. Unlike the time when our uncle built this house, Osborne Ave is filled with year round residents so there is a very stable feel as opposed to neighborhoods that are filled with vacation rentals. It is a fairly quiet street with sidewalks all the way to the beach. Loud kid noise is no problem, but being a quiet family street loud weekend parties is not desirable. The shops in Bay Head proper are a 5-minute bike ride. Here you will find the famous Mueller’s Bakery that everyone goes to on Sunday returning with pastries for breakfast. There are tennis courts across the street and on the same block is the hangout for young and old alike: Dorcas’s Restaurant and Ice Cream Parlor. It is called Bay Head because it is at the northern end of the 30-mile long Barnaget Bay, which connects to the Atlantic on the southern side and to the north through the Pt. Pleasant Canal. You can go deep-sea fishing from here or enjoy sailing in the Bay. You can surf until 9am on the Bay Head beaches then it’s off to the designated beach until 5pm where all the beaches are yours again. At sunrise you will always find beachcombers and surf fisherman catching bluefish. The Bay Head beaches are unique in that no food is allowed on the beach and no changing rooms, which mean that, only people with badges (which we provide) are allowed on the beaches. This keeps the big crowds away. At night the Pt Pleasant Boardwalk is only a 15-minute bike ride away. The Boardwalk has entertainment for the entire family from toddlers to teens and dancing on the weekends for adults. There are plenty of restaurants in Pt Pleasant for dining out. Driving only 15 minutes inland and you will find all the stores you’re accustomed to from Home Depot, Bath & Beyond to Costco or stay close to home and window shop the unique stores found in Bay Head and Pt. Pleasant. The Jersey Shore Factory Outlet in Tinton Falls is only 30 minutes away. For the more adventurous, 30 minutes south is Island Beach State Park which is the largest reserve of undeveloped barrier island in New Jersey and one of the largest in the United States. This 10-mile stretch is one of NJ’s last significant remnants of a barrier island ecosystem that once was along much of the coast. You can hike, swim, kayak and with a permit four wheel drive certain areas. Amenities: Beach towels, beach chairs, toddler beach toys, beach passes, bikes. Air conditioning and overhead fans in each room. Each bedroom has a small closet and 2 dressers. Downstairs: there are art supplies, paper and games for children and plenty of board games and crossword puzzles for the older crowd. There is a TV, DVD player and Wifi. There is no phone service but cell phones work fine. Pets are considered on a case-by-case basis. There is no smoking and it is not wheelchair accessible.

Hurricane Sandy left us unscathed. The house sits 3 feet off the ground and we only had a little water in our yard. They have built the beaches back and the shops in Bay Head will be open for the summer.
You will find the beaches in Bay Head some of the least crowded beaches on the north Jersey Shore. Don't forget to take a stroll some evening on the Point Pleasant Boardwalk. If you're young enough in heart, they have a rockin' dance bar on the Boardwalk known as one of the best. If you surf make sure to take that sunrise bike ride to check it out. When there is a south swell, Bay Head has the best break in the area. Don't forget to rent a boat and explore the Bay if you are a boater. You will always find fellow surf fisherman at sunrise. Lastly, don't forget your morning pastries at Mueller Bakery.
Year Purchased: 1920
About the owner: My sister who lives in Germany and I who lives in California inherited the house from my father who inherited from my Uncle Alex who built it in the 1920's. We have loved it dearly having spent childhood and teenage summers there. My sister and her family spent a number of summers there over the years.
Why the Owner Chose Bay Head: If you want to have a sense of what Bay Head once was this is the house to rent. It will take you back to yesteryear when my uncle built it. We have upgraded it since he built it: his idea of a kitchen was a ship's galley and no bigger. As you can see from the pictures it is now a good size kitchen.
The Unique Benefits at this House: There are only a few houses left in Bay Head that are on 2 lots and even fewer that are original early 1900's houses. With a large side yard you have plenty of room for children and entertaining.
