Crescent Beach (formerly Industry Bay) house description
French House offers traditional yet informal Caribbean living in an extraordinary natural setting—so beautiful that some visitors rarely leave the enormous wraparound veranda with its spectacular ocean views. Originally built in 1763, it has massive walls of local stone, high mahogany ceilings, and dozens of French doors and windows. You will enjoy the romance of its worn and comfortable British Colonial antiques, including authentic four-posters in all five bedrooms. The house is set amid sixty acres of flowers, coconut palms, and fruit trees that run from the hillside to the beach. A working farm, the estate’s grounds occupy most of Crescent Bay. As you meander down the private drive from the house to the beach (about a 10-minute walk), feel free to pick and eat any of the dozen or so fruits that grow along the way--or simply ask the gardener to bring a selection to enjoy with the estate's honey.
Wraparound veranda and courtyard offer many different areas for outdoor relaxing and socializing
Large, old-fashioned kitchen in separate building reached by covered walkway
Courtyard garden behind house with pool and patio area and grilling and picnic table area
Flora: guava, banana, mango, grapefruit, coconut, lime, cashew, plum rose, papaya, orange
Fauna: bat, lizard, tree frog, manicou, land crab, hermit crab, hummingbird, banana keet, cocorico (bird), dog.

- The French House estate occupies the center of Crescent Bay, also known as Industry (after the virtue of hard work). Crescent Beach Inn, on the estate property, serves breakfast and lunch daily and dinner upon request. The beach offers good swimming, snorkeling, windsurfing, and kite-surfing. To the east are hundreds of undeveloped acres where you can walk, run and hike. There is also a turtle sanctuary around the first point, in Park, about half a mile from French House. After visiting the turtle sanctuary, try drift snorkeling back to Crescent Beach! To the west around the next point is Spring Bay, another beautiful beach, where the road turns inland past the four-star Firefly Inn and Restaurant to Port Elizabeth, the harbor and main town. There are dozens of restaurants in town and along the harbor, plus grocery shopping, banks, fruit and vegetable stands, and local craft vendors. Beyond the harbor, you'll want to explore other beautiful beaches, including Princess Margaret and Lower Bay on the Caribbean side and Friendship Beach on the Atlantic side, all with places for lunch. If you're adventurous, you can hike to Hope and Ravine bays, the most remote beaches on the island....moreless

What a marvelous rental opportunity! Our favorite island and favorite place to stay--old world charm, comfortable, and "to die for" views!! If photography is your thing there are birds, flowers, and exceptional vistas to photograph on the grounds ,on the beaches, and in the harbor--the magnificent frigate birds , hummers , bananaquits, and many others. We loved the snorkeling trip available through a company in the harbor . Two of out favorite day trips are to Tobago Cay for snorkeling and a boating trip to Mustique. Can't wait to return!!! The house is beautiful and very comfortable. It is perfect for 4-5 couples or family groups. Views are spectacular and it is close to beach and restaurant. It is secluded and private, but town can be reached by 30-45 min. walk or you can drive or call a cab. It is a true paradise!!

Dear Heather, This was my first visit to French House. I loved it. I think it is a special place to visit with close friends who do not mind living with nature in a big way. I love the wide open feeling, even sharing the space with, lizards, bats and assorted bugs. The kitchen is rustic but functional. The living areas are spacious and comfortable. Almost every room has a magnificent view. Bequia is a charming, unspoiled island with friendly people. I can't wait to return. Jeanie Robinson Virginia Beach, VA

This divine house and island are perfect for a house party! From the drive through the gate one is reminded of former Caribbean Plantation Life. The house is magnificent; furniture , tiles, stone, etc. are all original. Rooms are large and beds are gorgeous old testers. The views from the veranda are incomparable. Have a seat and you will never want to leave. Island natives are friendly and helpful. Native crafts and art are available in town and are unique and colorful. The boat craftsmen produce the most detailed beautiful boats you can imagine. Restaurants are fabulous and so many to choose from. Great food - - - and many have Caribbean bands for dancing. To insure a wonderful holiday employ a cook and a driver!
