Breathe in the fresh mountain air on the private cool Soque River, famous for big rainbow trout. Catch and release fishing on a private 100 yard stretch of river (check out the video above from the producers of a fishing show that stayed with us). There are no tubers or others floating this private river. The river usually runs clear and you can sometimes see trout from the decks of the house. There is a deep pool and many gentle rapids to enjoy. Put your chair in the river and dip your feet as you read your favorite book. The property is downstream from Brigadoon and Black hawk fishing lodges.

Be lazy in the big and comfortable house with four bedrooms with many big decks overlooking the river. The screened-in porch offers an additional dining table for 8. You can sleep soundly as every room fills with the gentle rush of the river. The main room has the tallest rock fireplace I have seen and it is a work of art. Relax to a wood fire in winter or stretch out in summer under the ceiling fan in the big leather chair. The entire main floor has wood floors and wood walls.

Wifi covers the entire house and even can be accessed by the river. A new 3D TV tempts you to ignore the river's calling and catch the big game or that movie you never seemed to see.

Upstairs are two bedrooms, one with a Stickley queen bed. The second with a bunk bed, an additional single bed, and an extra mattress; its a room perfect for kids. The master bedroom on the main floor has a king sized bed with a large walk in closet. The master connects to a bathroom with two sinks, a shower and huge tub with a forest view. The bathroom floor is heated. Lay on it on a cold day and soak in the radiant heat.

The kitchen is warm and inviting to create your 'top chef' meals after a day in the outdoors. Open the window and listen to the river as you cook. The Delongi coffee/expresso maker is top of the line for making the perfect brew to sip riverside in the morning.

The finished basement includes the fourth bedroom with a double bed. The entire basement floor has Italian tiles and includes a desk area with heated flooring; create your novel, or just check emails on the wireless internet. The ping pong table is tournament quality and makes a great venue for many late night battles. A small foosball table and dart board add to the fun. Many board games are in the closet when family bonding is in order. The basement also includes a dry-erase board world map covering an entire wall; perfect to plan your world exploration or an artistic creation.

The property includes three private acres with a river rock lined trail, fishing docks, and a big flat area for sports and pitching horse shoes. There is also a playscape with a rocket slide for kids of all ages. A big fire pit lined with rocks from the Soque River makes the perfect spot to warm your spirits and toast marshmallows. The entire area is cooled by the river to squelch the summer heat.

You may not want to leave, but if you do, adventures in the North Georgia mountains abound. You are near Unicoi State Park, the Appalachian Trail, Tallulah Gorge, Lake Burton, Lake Rabun, Brigadoon and Black hawk fishing lodges, waterfalls, hiking, the quaint town of Clarkesville, the alpine village of Helen, and many great restaurants. There are wineries in the area and even a newly opened moonshine distillery. Uh Oh.

The choice is yours. Relax, breathe, and soak in the freshness, or go find adventure. Enjoy the perfect platform for connecting with the family and regenerating your life.

Our family spent our annual New Year's trip at this wonderful home. We traveled with our two children and two other families and their children. (There were 4 children total and all children were under age 3 at the time.) The house was great! The listing and photos accurately reflect this home's appearance and amenities. The river setting was so beautiful and peaceful. Even though it was quite cold, we spent a lot of time outside walking along the river and playing on the playset. The "rocket" slide, as the kids called it, was a hit! We also enjoyed quite a few fires and smores at the outdoor fire pit. Inside the home is very comfortable and accommodated us well. There is plenty of space on the main floor and downstairs for the kids to play. The home was very clean and well maintained, including the kitchen which was pretty well equipped. While we didn't use the downstairs game room too much, it would be great for older children. My husband, who is an avid fly fisherman, spent a fair amount of time on the river and caught quite a few trout. We stayed at the home the entire trip except for the occasional grocery store trip. What made our stay even better was the owners. They are very helpful and were very responsive to all questions we had about the home and area. We would definitely consider staying here again. (I imagine it is even more enjoyable when the weather is warm.)

Owner response: We raised three kids up at river and treasure our memories of them exploring, wading, fishing and generally being outdoors. It makes us happy when great families like this can create similar memories. Thanks for the kind review and do come back in the warmer months.

My husband and I stayed for a week over the Chistmas holiday and it was wonderful. The photos are completely accurate as well as very clean. The owner was very helpful in providing directions and info about nearby dining and activities. We would love to stay here again. There is no cell phone service at the house but there is a land line and internet service. We saw alot of trout in the river behind the house but had never fly fished before We still managed to each catch one which was alot of fun. We picked up a map at The Mark of the Potter - "Backroads Less Traveled" for about $15 that was invaluable in discoving out of the way places, waterfalls, forest service roads, and hiking trails. The best food we had was in Hiawassee at the Chop House - fairly expensive but excellent food and service - about an hour drive from the house. The best activity was snow tubing at Scaly Mtn. on Rte. 106 between Dillard and Highlands. We are from Florida and it was a totally fun experience. They even have a conveyer belt type system to carry you and your tube up the hill. Nearby to the north towards Highlands we took a short walk to Dry Falls that you can walk behind and stay dry as well as Bridal Veil Falls that is right off the road and you can drive behind. A nice hike was to Raven Cliff Falls - from Helen, north on Hwy 17/75 to left on Hwy 75A. Go 4 miles. Turn Right on Hwy 348. Go 3 miles. Entrance on left and follow signs. The hike is 2 1/2 miles each way with a change in elevation of about 700 feet. We really look forward to visiting again with our entire family.

Great base for fishing, hiking, and sightseeing in Rabun, Habersham and Stephens counties. Beautiful river on property for fishing and relaxing. House was very spacious and clean. Kitchen has everything needed to prepare breakfast, lunch, and dinner if you choose to eat in and I recommend you do and enjoy eating on the deck under the trees listing to the river run. Five guys fishing in the area but would be perfect for families with kids of any age. Far enough away for serenity, close enough to run to town. Can't wait to get back.

Highly recommend this home to anyone needing to escape to the mountains. David has furnished this house to accommodate any of your needs. The place is perfectly suited for dogs. And kids.

We had a fantastic weekend visit. The property is beautiful and the house was spotless. The kids spent hours on the swings and the rocket slide. There is nice variety in the river along the property - lots of places that held fish. Lost a BIG trout but luckily the whole family was right there and saw it briefly to confirm its existence. The bass were really biting - one even hit a yarn strike indicator on the surface and took it deep. My daughter had fun with the brief fight before the fish let go. We all hated to leave. Communication with the owner was great and I would recommend this property to anyone looking for a perfect river retreat.

Our visit at David's Mountain home was wonderful. We felt like we were in a treehouse. In the evening we would wade in the river with the dogs. As we would drive out of the property we saw deer with a fawn & a beaver. Sometimes an eagle would pass over the river at dusk.David left a great list of 1 day trips that we truly enjoyed. Also, we spent a day at Lake Burton renting a boat & our children swam in the crystal clear lake. The restaurants were also great. The antique stores had very good prices & I picked up many treasures. We plan to return next year.I'd highly recommend this place. Thank's again David for sharing your home with my family.

"Honeypot" is perhaps our favorite family destination to unwind from the busy pace of city life. The home is perfect for family time, meals, and conversation. My children love to come here and spend their days cooling off in the beautiful Soque river and getting "unplugged" from their life in the city. we enjoy going for local hikes and the nearby canopy tours are a great outing with kids. This is a perfect spot for family reconnection!!

Owner response: Thanks for the kind comments. While we only recently stared renting, but we have consistently donated the property over the years to charity auctions. This review is from a wonderful family that has been keeping the bidding up for a good cause, and as a result has spent several vacations at the river. A good example of our goal, to help gather good folks for meaningful time together.

This is a fabulous rental! We have stayed in a dozen "by owner" vacation rentals, and this has to be one of our favorites. If you want comfortable, authentic, easy-going, superbly equipped, and really, really peaceful and beautiful, this is it. The minute we arrived, we started thinking of the friends and family we have who would also enjoy this special place. There are lots of pretty spots for guests to go to read and relax, the deck, screened porch, chairs by the river, etc. And if you want to leave that Adirondack chair, the Soque River, surrounding lakes, pottery shops and nearby golf make this location a playground! The owner has made it very welcoming and kept it personal. With an eye on the stone fireplaces on two floors, we're checking our calendars for when we can return.

About the owner: We are a family of 5 who live in Atlanta. Our kids have grown up in this house, and the name “Hunny Pot” came from their early love for Winnie the Pooh, and the fishing honey hole yards from the house. We have a Labrador who loves to swim in the river, and a grandfather when in his 80’s caught fish from the fishing deck. We love Honey Pot and hope you will too!

                      Why the Owner Chose Clarkesville:
We live in Atlanta, a big city with hot summers. In only 1 hour 45 minutes from downtown Atlanta and the world's busiest airport, we can be in another world, on our private stretch of the Soque River. Fresh air, cool rushing water, and rainbow trout. The river is alluring on a hot day. We take chairs and sit them in the cool water while we relax. Our vacation home is close to the charming town of Clarkesville, but the home is so comfortable that we find it hard to leave. The memories watching our kids grow up and connect with nature here are like the river's deep pool, the 'honey hole.' In this spot, I have watched the kids swim and tube, and on New Years day, I enticed a 14+lb. trout from its depths on a fly. The beast fell only two pounds short of the state record. Watching my dad, at the age of 84, catch a fish from the deck by the same river pool is the bookend of the memories of our daughter catching a 7lb. rainbow trout at age 6, and my son catching his first red eye bass. While difficult to compete with the nature, the inside of the house is very comfortable and is mostly wood. It is large, but still has a cabin feel, highlighted by the giant stack stone wood fireplace. We have roaring ping pong battles in the finished basement and scheme our life adventures on the wall sized world map. Board games played abound such that we rarely turn on the 3D TV. But hey, nice spot to catch the big game or a movie. There is a picture of our daughter reading a book as the river splits around my favorite rock. I have many times risked the life of my laptop to wade out and sit on that rock and connect to the internet. There are many fun things to do nearby, Lake Rabun, Lake Burton, State Parks, waterfalls, hiking, gorges, shopping, eating and tubing in Clarkesville and Helen. But to be truthful, we rarely leave our river forest. Between sports, music and school, we do not get there often enough. So we decided to share our platform for memory creation. Enjoy.

The Unique Benefits at this House:
The Private Cool Soque River, famous for big rainbow trout. There no tubers or others floating this private river. The river usually runs clear and you can often see trout from the decks of the house. Put your chair in the river and dip your feet in as you read your favorite book. Be lazy in the big and comfortable house with 4 bedrooms with many big decks overlooking the river. The main room has the tallest rock fireplace I have seen and it is a true work of art. The entire main floor has wood floors and mostly wood walls. Wifi covers the entire house and even can be accessed by the river. New 3D TV to catch the big game or newest movie. Upstairs are two bedrooms, one with a double bed and the second with a bunk bead and additional single bead and extra mattress perfect for kids. The master on the main has a king sized bed with a large walk in closet. The master connects to a bathroom with a shower and huge tub with a forest view. The bathroom floor is heated. The kitchen is warm and inviting to create your meals after a day in the outdoors. The Delongi coffee/expresso maker is top of the line to make the perfect brew to sip riverside in the morning. In the finished basement is the forth bedroom. The entire floor is has Italian tiles and includes a desk area with heated flooring. Ping pong table of tournament quality makes for many late night games. The property includes three private acres with a river rock lined trail, fishing docks, and a big flat area for sports and horse shoes. Big outdoor fire pit lined with river stones. A playscape with rocket slide for kids of all ages. The entire area is cooled by the river. Adventure in the North Georgia mountains abound. You are near Unicoi State Park, the Appalachian Trail, Tallulah Gorge, Lake Burton, Lake Rabun, waterfalls, hiking, the quaint town of Clarkesville, the alpine village of Helen, and many great restaurants.
