Baldon House is the center portion of a beautiful 18th Century Manor house set on the edge of the popular village of Marsh Baldon, six miles south of the historic university city of Oxford, The house is full of character and provides a wonderful holiday for the whole family. Surrounded by beautiful countryside full of walks and cozy pubs, it is the perfect getaway for peace and quiet. The seven bedroom house, blending both grandeur and charm, has many period features such as high ceilings, marble fireplaces and parquet floors. There are three double bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, two with panoramic views over the fields to the lake and woods, two further double bedrooms, two single bedrooms and three further bathrooms. On the ground floor is a large, open-plan kitchen with breakfast room, a well-appointed living room, and a beautiful paneled dining room. Year-round, the house offers a wonderful combination of activities and relaxation. Eat AL fresco on the South Lawn in the summer sun, enjoy flowers and vegetables fresh from the Walled Garden, practice your golf shots, kick a soccer ball, or have a go at croquet. Warm yourself by the Aga after a brisk walk through the woods or a row on the lake in the autumn. Curl up with a good book by the fire in the winter and in the spring, watch the lambs in the fields or try your hand at shearing! Whatever your age or energy level, there is something for everyone.
Baldon House is set in 60 acres of beautiful, unspoiled grounds. There are 20 acres of woodland, full of wild life and a series of lakes with great carp fishing and a medieval bridge marking the ancient road from London to Oxford. There are several fields put to pasture where Aberdeen Angus cattle graze alongside horses. Nearer to the house there is a historic stable yard and several barns and a working walled kitchen garden still overseen by Jack, the Gardener who started work at the house as the Garden boy, aged 14, seventy two years ago! Adjacent to the Barns is a tennis court and various lawns surround the house.
Children will love the array of animals at Baldon House: chickens, sheep, horses, cows - even Peregrine the Peacock! Collect fresh eggs in the morning, or feed the sheep in the evening. Lambing and shearing happen in the Spring. Pony rides are available by special arrangement.
Marsh Baldon is a picturesque country village with a pub, school, church and even cricket on the village green! There are countless walks to nearby villages and destination pubs, such as the renowned gastro pub The Mole in Toot Baldon, or The Crazy Bear in Stadhampton. The Oxford University Arboretum neighbours the Baldon Estate.

A group of us enjoyed a wonderful two night stay in Baldon House, a truly memorable weekend. The house was beautiful, every room had a stately home feel but also comfortable and inviting. Its a house to explore. Christina was really helpful, providing recommendations for restaurants, and accommodating our requirements for the weekend. The location is superb being only 10-15 mins from Oxford, and despite its very rural position is very easy to find! Thanks Christina and family for making our weekend a very special one.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We had the best time in this house. Everything was wonderful. The hospitality that we received was above and beyond. The fresh produce and jams on arrive were a special treat! We were with a big group (in laws and sister in law and nephew). Plenty of rooom in this huge house. All the rooms are spacious and comfortable. The master suite is stunning. The kids had a blast making friends with the neighbors, playing fetch with the dog, petting the horses, looking for eggs in the chicken coop, and calling to the pigs. We didn't want to leave! Great location to visit downtown Oxford and Windsor Castle. The local pubs serve wonderful food, but we also enjoyed cooking in the up to date kitchen. The use of the families Wellies came in handy (next time we will bring our own). We loved every minute here and hope to come back some day!! Thank you for everything!!!Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway.

We had the most wonderful vacation, thank you so much! Baldon House is truly a magical place and we already miss it so much. There is nothing quite like waking up to that vast expanse of green and smelling the country air - hot smoggy Los Angeles is feeling very, well ... hot and smoggy! The house is so beautiful and warm, and you've taken such care with the details to make your visitors comfortable -- all of that effort was really appreciated from the beautiful welcome basket and Champagne, to the lovely fluffy towels. The boys loved the secret garden, the piggies, Holly Starlight and of course the cows who they were convinced are also your pets.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

This truly is a beautiful place to stay, a wonderfully relaxing setting complete with cows and peacocks. What you don't see in the photos is the bluebell filled woodland which surrounds the small pond/lake. What a delight to stroll through in early May. House is a great size, lots of nooks and crannies for a large group to spend time in. The old wooden panelled dining room is like going back in time and a perfect location for a large family gathering. Great selection of rooms, although you might have to toss a coin for the master bedroom and suite which has great views and lots of space, especially if you have carry cots and luggage. The local village pub has a great selection of food so if you don't fancy cooking, there's a nearby place to eat, although you may have to book as I think its quite popular. all in all a great weekend.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, age 55+.

About the owner: We are Americans who have lived in England since 1974. Baldon House is our family home which we have owned since 1978. Our five children were all raised here and it has been a wonderful place for children. Now that we are empty-nesters we have decided to rent the house so that other families can experience the same joys of the English countryside.
