Historic Eastside house description
Casa Viga Grande (The House-with-the-Massive-Beams) is tucked into a historically authentic and quiet neighborhood above Canyon Road --Santa Fe's prestigious art and gallery district. Winding, narrow streets are reminiscent of Old Europe.
This air-conditioned 1600 square foot Southwest Style Casa offers all the conveniences and charm of contemporary Santa Fe. The spaciousness of high, massive, viga-beam ceilings provide a counterpoint to the rich detail of decor. Everywhere, fine original art and thoughtfully placed artifacts meet the eye.
One uniquely appealing aspect of Viga Grande is the layout. Two completely separate and spacious bedroom suites each have their own private stone-tiled baths. As such, two couples find the equivalency between suites to be appealing. A king bed in one suite can be transformed into two twin beds, providing optimal flexibility for couples and families. While one suite is more spacious internally; the other opens out onto its own private patio.
The well appointed kitchen features state-of-the-art appliances; double french doors unite the dining area with a second very private patio and gated garden.
The two bathrooms are beautiful and modern, with high-end tile and fixtures. The master bath has two sinks, a separate double-headed shower, and a large jacuzzi-style tub.
A museum-brick drive greets guests as they enter the property --which is virtually hidden behind a hand-forged iron gate. There is off-street parking for two-to-three vehicles.
Once in the famed Canyon Road gallery district of Santa Fe, the 3 minute drive (or 15 minute walk) to Viga Grande begins by following the historically soulful and nourishing Acequia Madre waterway (lovingly referred to by locals as 'The Mother Ditch') and then wending uphill through some of Santa Fe's most charming residential areas.
For guests wishing to visit the historic Plaza, a private parking space is reserved for you at the ColorfulSantaFe offices -- just 3 blocks (a five-minute stroll) from all that the historic Plaza has to offer.
A free shuttle is also available on Canyon Road, making it easy to explore many other locations in Santa Fe -- including the Railyard District with its plentiful shops and up-scale contemporary galleries, restaurants, and farmers market.
Take in all that Santa Fe has to offer -- and live like a local!

We stayed in Casa Viga Grande for several nights over the New Year's holiday. The house was fantastic and, importantly, as described in the listing and shown in the photos! Plenty of space inside for our family of four, including two young children who needed room to run around. The house was very clean and nicely stocked with the basics needed for a stay (e.g., paper towels, tissues, toilet paper, basic condiments, coffee, tea, etc.) and also had all appliances/cookware/dinnerware needed to make and serve a full dinner. The yard was big enough to build a snow fort and have a snowball fight! If you have young kids, the house is most likely not walkable to the plaza, but it was an easy drive and parking wasn't difficult (and the management company will supply a parking pass for a spot nearby the plaza, but we did not even need to use the pass). Noel, at the management company, was great! She spent a good amount of time showing us the house and orienting us to Santa Fe. She had excellent recommendations for things to do and places to eat. Our kids are already asking when we can return. We recommend this place without any hesitation.

A Week at Casa Viga Grande
A Week at Casa Viga Grande
We had a wonderful stay. Some things we really loved: -The winding streets. -The house itself: beautifully furnished and decorated, very comfortable. -The kitchen: top end. -The absolute quiet. -The radiant heat. -The beauty and draw of the fireplace. -The march of the cats. Back and forth. Morning and afternoon. On the fence. Thanks for everything. We will be back!

Peace and Comfort
Peace and Comfort
This house is beautiful and In a very quiet, peaceful neighborhood. We enjoyed quiet mornings and evenings on the patio. The bed is very comfortable and the master bathroom is beautiful and unique. The kitchen is very well equipped. We loved every moment in this home and have absolutely no complaints! The walk to Canyon is mostly downhill and takes only 10 minutes. The neighborhood is beautiful and historic and the fall colors in October are amazing! Save some energy for the walk back home because it is uphill. We walked to the square from the house on two occassions. We found the walk along Canyon or Alameda very beautiful and relaxing. It is a long walk, but there are places along the way to rest and get a drink or a snack. We originally had this house booked in August, but had to reschedule due to a death in the family. Russ and Noel were incredibly understanding and very compassionate. They allowed us to reschedule at our earliest convenience. I would stay in any house owned or managed by Clorful Santa Fe. They are very professional and obviously love helping visitors enjoy their city. We are already planning to return to Santa Fe next fall. This home is at the top of our list for where we want to stay.

Beautiful and Classic Santa Fe Home
Beautiful and Classic Santa Fe Home
Casa Viga Grande is a wonderful place to enjoy all the comforts of home and also enjoy a quiet Santa Fe location. We especially loved the jacuzzi bath tub and dual shower head shower! Very beautifully decorated and Noel put together a wonderful binder of where to go and eat. We went to all the where the locals eat places and were not disappointed by any of them. All supper yummy! We especially liked Bumble Bee's green chile lamb stew! The neighborhood is filled with classic adobe Santa Fe homes. It is not walking distance to town unless you are an athlete but we really enjoyed the neighborhood and felt really safe. This would be a great place for two couples or a small family. We hope to return someday soon.
