This charming cabin is nestled in the in woods and overlooks the Clinch River. It is located in the beautiful community of Kyles Ford, TN. Built in 2007, we made sure to preserve trees and blend in with the nature surroundings. The goal was to make the cabin as invisible as possible so as not to disturb the view scape of the original community. The cabin was painted in a way to encourage blending with the winter colors of the surrounding forest. The cabin was constructed using local labor and materials when possible. The cabin is best described as simple and rustic. It is a 1 bedroom with a loft area that has 2 twin beds. The cabin has a great deck/ Balcony that overlooks the river. Sometimes the view is obstructed by the trees, but we prefer to not cut them done. The sound of the water is never obstructed. It is great for couples, families, or friends looking for a getaway. Catfish Cabin has a full kitchen if you would like to cook, but we also have a Café. The cabin has a TV with Direct TV, but if the outdoors is more your thing you can rent a canoe, Funyak, or tube from our Outfitters. It is best to reserve the day before. We like to inform our guest that there is no cell phone or internet service in the area winch you would be staying in. To some that is an inconvenience, to us it is a blessing in disguise. This makes it very easy to have uninterrupted relaxation. There is a phone in the cabin for local calls; a phone card is needed for long distance. Once you come to this area you will fall in love not only the beauty of the surrounding area, but also the Appalachian hospitality and sense of community that the area boasts.

We've stayed in Cabin D twice now and cannot recommend Riverplace highly enough! The cabins are comfortable and very reasonable and everyone at Riverplace is very accommodating and friendly. The food at the cafe is great and there are.lots.of parks and trails within a short drive. Fantastic! We'll be back again!

I had read about The River Place online and needed a day trip to just get away. The River Place cafe', market and grounds are adorable and pleasant. Ceiling fans greet you as you lounge in a rocking chair and enjoy the view and sounds of the river. They now have camping, canoeing, kayaking, tubing and rafting, and although I didn't check into it, I belive they now have hiking as well. Kyle's Ford is a slower pace of life and it felt like I was stepping back in time. A relaxing and secluded location. I will be back!!!!

We stayed at Cabin B during the weekend of August 1 - 3, 2008 for our fifth wedding anniversary. We learned of the property through a charity silent auction where we bid on two nights' stay and won. The property billed itself as an eco-tourism location with low impact cabins that are surrounded by nature and a wildlife management area. Therefore, jacuzzi hot tubs and moutain views from cut trees this is not (thankfully!). The cabin was rustic but had a complete kitchen, central air/heat, ceiling fans, and attractive quilt decorations. While we enjoyed our time there sitting on the porch reading, cooking in the kitchen, and spending time with each other, there is little to nothing else to do in the area. The town it's located in probably has probably fewer than 100 people, and there aren't even trails for hiking or walking into the wildlife management area. Plans for canoe, raft, and bicycle rentals from the small store don't seem to have come to fruition yet. You need to bring most, if not all, of your food in with you b/c the country store has a limited stock of items. Also consider bringing some of your own kitchen tools (like paring knives, pancake griddle) if you want to do real cooking. If you're looking for a place to relax, slow down, and spend quality time with family or friends, this is a great location. However, if you want the opportunity to do activities, go hiking, eat at restaurants, etc., this is not the place for you.

These cabins are awesome for a nice get away. Nothing fancy, all rough sawn wood, just very simple but nice. We come here every year in the fall and rent 3-4 cabins with our family. The River Place is a great little restaurant & gift shop. The food is always very good and if you go away hungry, then its your own fault. Love this little place. You need to bring your own soap/shampoo & toilet paper, towels are provided. They dont come clean your room on a daily basis, which is fine with me. Nice balcony overlooking the valley. Kitchenette in each cabin and 1 bathroom. Small well behaved pets allowed for a fee. We stayed there last week...beautiful location..once we got there..lol! My 11 year old son..and my mom went with me. We stayed in one of the cabins...says it sleeps 4-6...that would be a hard fit...but it was perfect for 3 of us. Great views....great prices...wished we could have seen the river better from our deck....but I wouldn't want them to cut down all the great trees for that....so..we were still happy. We arrived on a Monday..left Wednesday morning....enjoyed driving along side the river...and enjoying the views. We ventured out of the mountains on Tuesday...drove down to Strawberry Plains...which took us forever...because my GPS decided to take us the long way...but coming back....it directed us on a much quicker route...so next time we will know. The only drawback would be for people that want to shop, drive go carts..etc...don't come here for that....go to Gatlinburg...which we like to do once a year. We loved the onsite restaurant alot....the staff were extremely nice..especially Rhonda..who was awesome. The only thing I would recommend is just a little more work on the cabin we stayed in....Bearclaw....the leg of the couch came off the first night we were there...but we put in on and made the best of it...and they asked if we wanted something done about it...but we were fine. And maybe the solution for the cabin is a new couch...because it wasn't very comfortable...according to my 11 year old son...lol..and we were bothered by a Sewer smell in the mornings...but despite those two things..we still had a great time. Next time we will probably come in the summer...so we can enjoy all the things the river offers...and probably stay in one of their bigger places so we can bring more family....see lots of potential here....oh yeah...the highlight...was being invited on a Hay ride on that Tuesday night....by the local Womens group.....they should consider making this a regular thing..because it was awesome...for 2 hours...we drove along the Clinch River ..the sun was going down....we stopped for a Hot Cider and Hot Chocolate break with other goodies. We had some scary moments...going up steep hills..but this added to the adventure....I would gladly have paid for this hayride....it was so great.

My wife I stayed in the Bear Claw Cottage for a weekend. We had a very peaceful and relaxing weekend. Fortunately I like rainy weather because it rained a lot of the time we were there. I love the sound of the rain on the tin roof of this cabin. This time of the year there is not much to do in the area but that was fine with me since I was looking for relaxation. If you are looking for excitement this is not the place to go but if you are looking for a private place to get away then this is it. Loved the sound of the river as I sat in the rocker on the deck. I do wish the place had a hot tub because it would be nice to relax in the tub. Our cabin was very small but extremely clean. Nothing fancy but comfortable. A bigger tv would be nice. I watched a Tn basketball game while there and it was hard to tell if the shots went in or not because of the small screen. The food at the cafe was very good and inexpensive. The steak meal special on Fri night was unbelievable good. My wife had the chicken special that night and it was also very good. I loved the atmosphere in the store and cafe. The entire staff was very friendly and helpful. Being a native E Tennessean I felt right at home here. In the restaurant if I ran out of coffee etc. I just got up and poured my own as if at home. No one cared at all that I did that. The first evening there we ate in the upstairs section of the cafe. As other patrons arrived and sat nearby we chatted with them as if they were family. Nothing like being in a reataurant in our hometown of Knoxville or any other larger city. Overall we had a great experience at River Place on the Clinch. As stated before if you are looking for excitement this is probably not the place to go but if you are looking for a great place to relax and meet friendly people then this is a great choice. If you like to fish or canoe then this would also be an excellent place to stay. I was also excited to see a Bald Eagle flying over the river as I watched from our cabin deck. Lots of nature to be enjoyed at this location.

My fiancee bought the River Place Groupon for us and we loved it. All meals were included but even if they weren't the restaurant, itself, was very affordable and the quaint grocery store had a good assortment of breakfast/ lunch/ dinner items too. in case you wanted to cook for yourself. The cabins are beautiful with cute accents yet the beds could have been more comfortable. The natural views were breathtaking and the area is so peaceful. The staff was courteous and helpful not because they had to be but because that was the kind of people they were. The deck was our favorite place to sit for meals and they even had a table with a checkerboard where we played a few games. It was a perfectly romantic setting and the river added the perfect touch. They have canoeing and other activities but you have to notify them the day before which isn't listed anywhere and luckily, another couple was going canoeing so we were able to catch the guide who drives you out to the starting point. They have since built a second deck and planted flowers for the spring/ summer so we can't wait to go back and they said they'll be having another Groupon which we were very happy about! Other than the walking and canoeing, funyaking and such, there's not much else as it's a small town with the closest gas station and any other civilization about 25-35 minutes away so you should plan to bring board games, cards and such. We brought scrabble and mad libs which occupied the rest of our time. It really is a very nice getaway where you don't have to deal with your cell phone or email. Just perfect! (OH and the food, to die for . The french toast is unlike anything I've had, the roasted potatoes, the hamburgers....all of it. Delicious) I could go on all day! Please go visit, this place is heaven on earth!

Received a two-night stay as a Christmas gift from my wife. Loved the secluded location, peace and quiet. Enjoyed hunting on the Kyles Ford Wildlife Management Area while I was there. Cabin was very comfortable and extremely clean. The food in the River Place Cafe was excellent...just like eating at my grandmother's kitchen table. Friendly, helpful people made the stay special. I have returned often and can honestly say the fishing has been great this Spring on the Clinch River! I stayed by myself and loved it, but would be a great place to bring the family looking for a quiet vacation centered around nature. They have canoes, rafts and float tubes for rent. I highly recommend this place.

About the owner: River Place on the Clinch is a community-based tourism development focusing on preservation, restoration, and environmental protection in the remote community of Kyles Ford, Tennessee. A Market, cabins, camping, cafe, outfitter and a Conservation Center are creating jobs and are the basis for sustainable economic development in the area. River Place on the Clinch is a project of the Clinch-Powell Resource Conservation & Development Council, Inc.. Clinch-Powell RC&D is a rural community development organization serving Claiborne, Grainger, Hancock, Hawkins, and Union counties. Our mission is to serve the needs of our communities, to protect our environment, and to enhance the quality of life of the people of the area through leadership, education, volunteerism, and action. The RC&D is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

Why the Owner Chose Kyles Ford:
The Clinch River has been designated as one of the Last Great Places on Earth by The Nature Conservancy. Clinch-Powell RC&D Council purchased the property in 2005 with a vision and a goal of bringing a once thriving community back to life. River Place Market & Café is housed in a renovated building that housed a community general store until the 1970’s. The renovation goal was to bring the familiar community store back to life with integrity. Much of the finishing restoration was done by local youth hired to paint and finish out the interior. The Market and Café use and sell local produce when possible. This cabin is one of 6 onsite. The Cabin was newly constructed in 2007 taking great care to preserve trees and blend in with the nature surroundings. The goal was to make the cabins as invisible as possible so as not to disturb the view scape of the original community. The Cabin was painted in a way to encourage blending with the winter colors of the surrounding forest. The Cabin was constructed using local labor and materials when possible and the rustic furnishings were gathered from yard sales, auctions and antique stores in the area.

The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
Everything about River Place on the Clinch is Unique. You will never experience anything like it. We boast things that most places cannot. Such as, our area does not have cell phone or internet service. To some that is an inconvenience, to us that is a blessing. To us a vacation is a getaway, and that is what you should do, getaway!!!! That is nearly impossible with the all technology out there. This great so not only do you not have worry about your cell phone, but others cell phones as well. One of our other unique benefits is the people. We can proud to say that Kyles Ford has some of the friendliest people you will ever meet. It is our own special blend of Appalachian Hospitality and community pride. Our greatest unique benefit is the surrounding beauty, it is truly breath taking. The Clinch River has even been designated as one of the Last Great Places on Earth by The Nature Conservancy. We hope you drop by and discover one of your own unique benefit that we have to offer!
