We absolutely loved this place! Our hosts, Helen and Bill, could not have been more helpful throughout the whole process: from booking to arrival and finally departure. They made sure our every need was met without being intrusive. We couldn't have asked for more. The cabin is well appointed with every comfort from home you could possibly need - and a few extras, like a telescope to star gaze! Not only is the accommodation of fantastic quality, but the location is great too. So close to so many parks - one day we went walking through the snow at the beautiful Donner Lake and the next day we were hiking in Malakoff Diggins state park (site of the world's largest hydraulic gold mine and breathtakingly beautiful). Nevada City is also very close by with some nice bars and restaurants but we loved the cabin so much we couldn't bring ourselves to venture out in the evening! We will be back to stay soon!

We just returned from one of the most magical trips I've experienced in quite awhile at Helen and Bill's guest house. From every window the view of woodlands greeted us. The deck provided a comfortable place to soak in the beauty, listen to the birds, relax with a book or a glass of wine, and play a game of Scrabble. Inside was a welcoming home filled with cozy furniture, attractive decor, and a very inviting bed -- with or without a mattress topper. A basket of treats and a lovely bottle of wine was left for us by our attentive and gracious hosts. We prepared most of our meals in the amply supplied kitchen but did have a delicious dinner at Leftie's in town. Helen and Bill provided some excellent recommendations for nature walks and were available to answer questions, provide information, and share some of the history of the area. We are already anticipating a return visit and we are so grateful to have discovered this enchanting place.

This place was very nice. As the listing and other reviewers point out, it is a very peaceful and relaxing place. The South Yuba River and its great swimming holes are about 5 minutes away by car. There are also great hikes to do from the property itself. I was there with my mother and my 6 year old daughter and both enjoyed the place. The owner was very helpful and provided us with fantastic details about the best places for hiking, swimming, and eating in the area. Helen even pointed out a free outdoors concert that was happening that weekend and left chairs for us to take to it. We were very well taken care of. I think it is the first time I regretted not meeting the owner of our vacation rental!

My husband and I thought we'd check out Grass Valley and found this amazing gem right in the middle of the forest! The drive up is beautiful, and once you get there the first thing you see is this sweet pond right in front of the house. The home is fresh and clean, the rooms are spacious including a huge deck off the living room with BBQ and table and chairs. Since the Olympics were on we did spend some couch potato time in the living room and we can say with authority that the sofa and chairs were ridiculously comfy! OK, I was too lazy to work out in the yoga room but there's always next time. The layout of the home was simple and nice, the decor was perfect for the setting. I appreciated the thoughtful touches like tons of hangers in the closet and Q-tips, cotton, shampoo and conditioner in the bathroom. The owner was super helpful but not overly "present" while we were there which was good. We loved that it was secluded yet only about 5 minutes from town. Now it's Monday and I'm at work, daydreaming of those wonderful trees out every window, the smell of them, and that pond in front. All in all this place is a great deal...we're going back for sure and recommend it highly.

We recently enjoy a stay at this delightful home, a place to escape from the pressures of the workplace and unwind. The home has a surprisingly spacious layout, with a large bedroom and a roomy dining/living area. The entire house is up-to-date and extremely clean. We slept soundly on the comfortable bed, and received a surprise wake-up call with a gentle, passing morning drizzle. The sun quickly peeked out and we enjoyed our leisurely day in the woods with walks, reading and just generally relaxing. The private deck is a great place to dine or just spend some time looking off into the forest. Tucked away in the woods, the home is within a 15-minute drive of Nevada City and all its attractions. While we really didn’t cook, there’s a full kitchen with all the accessories you need to create a meal. We liked the extras, such as an onsite cell phone with service to the outside world. There’s also a TV with a full selection of channels for entertainment, if you so choose. For us, though, just being out in nature was entertainment enough. The owners are quite helpful and nearby if needed, but you’re ensured your privacy, too. We loved the super-quiet night and gazing up at the stars overhead. This is not the place for you if you’re looking for noise and “excitement,” but it’s perfect if you want peace and quiet and are looking to unwind. We really only had one problem: Our vacation there was too short!

Trees and quietness made this the ideal get-a-way for a much needed respite. The owners and amenities at this property made everything a breeze for our family: two adults and three children (ages 4 and l year old twins). We all slept well under the summer stars with plenty of forest fresh air. We enjoyed exploring the ponds and took many walks around the property. So serene and peaceful, perfect for reading, writing, napping and soaking in the beauty that surrounds the cabin. I would highly recommend this get-a-way to anyone who wants to be in nature and have all the amenities you could want at your fingertips. Nevada City is just a short drive away with many activities, but we spent our 3-day stay in comfort with the tall pines and tranquil ponds.

About the owner: This property was originally purchased in 1980 as a weekend retreat from our hectic lives in the Bay Area. The Guest House was built in 1991.

Why the Owner Chose Nevada City:
We love this area for so many reasons. Our property is secluded and provides a private oasis away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Yet, it is a quick 12 minute drive to Nevada City or a 15 minute drive to Grass Valley for fun shopping, great dining, live theater, wonderful musical performances, and a first-class community food coop with healthy offerings – to supplement what is not available at the summer farmer’s markets! We are honored to be able to share the joys of this area with our guests.
