What a wonderful place. Well furnished, super clean, comfortable home. We happened to get rained on all weekend, but it didn't matter. Great excuse to stay in and admire the beautiful view. We were made to feel welcome. We hope to be back again to experience an evening sitting out on that deck on a warm summer evening.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children.
Owner response: Please come back again in the summer. Returning guests receive a 10% discount. I'm glad you were able to enjoy your stay despite the dreary conditions outside. Just since you were here in April, we have made some improvements to the deck and landscaping that will surely contribute to your enjoyment of the home. Many Thanks!

We had a wonderful vacation @ your Beach Home enjoying the beautiful weather in Aug.; fishing, kayaking, boating, hiking, and just really relaxing on the deck in the early mornings and late afternoons with family and friends overlooking the water and taking in the bountiful wildlife and of course the majestic views of the mountains while enjoying morning java or a cocktail in the evening before retiring from another fun filled day! Kirk and the Country store was a delightful surprise with his smoked salmon, prime rib, brownies, and huge blueberry muffins he himself makes daily! Oh yea! And don't forget to try the delicious ice creams in a giant waffle cone. Everyone was very friendly and helpful all the time. I believe this being a new rental is ongoing with property upgrades and amenities for the benefit of your renters. To suggest a few concerns: there needs to be a light @ the front door and the surrounding deck off the water needs light for the enjoyment and overall safety for all, and probably a regular visit from your local bug man wouldn't hurt. Overall, we loved our stay @ the Beach House and We Thank You! Sincerely Suzanne & Doug.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+.
Owner response: We are thrilled that you loved your stay and got to really relax and enjoy the area. It is very important to us that our guests get the experience that they want and expect. Very happy that you found the location of the home perfect as a home base for sightseeing and adventure. We really appreciate that you left the house so perfect. In May, 2012 we added additional outdoor lighting around the exterior of the home so that guests can navigate their way around easier in the dark. Thanks for your feedback. It allows us to set up the home so that all guests in the future can have the best experience possible! We hope to have you visit again the next time you travel to the Olympic Penninsula!

We had a great weekend at this private waterfront spot at Hood Canal! We were celebrating our soon to be 60th birthdays together. It was so nice listening the waves lap against the shore just under the deck and below the living room and bedroom windows. Special thanks to Kirk for making us feel so welcome. We will be back next year! Comments copied from home owners guest book.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

The house sits right on the Hood Canal and has a incredible view. I found the size of the place to be just right for three adults, with plenty of opportunities for privacy, if needed. The house is very clean and Kirk, the owner, is a friendly guy. My favorite part about the stay was on a warm morning when the tide was low and the oysters, mussles, and clams were exposed. Birds, mostly blue heron and eagles, were on full alert--fishing in the shallow waters. We saw about 20 blue heron and perhaps 6 or 7 bald eagles. And a kingfisher landed on the railing to check us out. For adventure, we took a day trip up to Lake Quinault to do some hiking and have a picnic. The drive is about 2 hrs each way. It's a nice spot with a beautiful lodge, water activities, and plenty of hiking trails. As far as the city of Union goes, I wasn't there long enough to have a full opinion. The two meals I had out at Dos Margaritas and the patio at Alderbrook's restaurant were not something I would recommend (although, at Alderbrook the patio had a nice setting). One note: the house is right on the highway, which can be a little loud, but you get used to it.Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway.
Owner response: A lot of our guests comment about the tranquility of simply relaxing on the deck in the mornings with a cup of coffee. One can really appreciate the sense of peace and calm when just kicking back on a quiet morning and watching the bountiful wildlife. We are pleased that you had a "charming escape" and we hope thay you will visit our idylic setting again in the future!

We had a lovely and relaxing visit. At low tide we saw numerous blue heron, quite a few bald eagles and lots of very active salmon moving about in the shallow water. We took a day trip to Lake Quinault. The lodge was beautiful and the trails were very nice and well maintained. This house was a gem!! Very Comfortable.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, girls getaway.
Owner response: The wildlife that our guests get to enjoy from "the front row" is truly amazing. Your comfort is our number one priority and we strive to provide a cherished vacation experience. Please come back again!

The house has everything we could possibly need (loved tissues in every room, thank you!) We saw osprey, bald eagles, seals and great blue heron. We went kayaking for the first time..great!. I felt like we were living on a boat! The tide came right up to the house, very cool, very private! Thanks, PS recommend "The Girls" restaurant in Hoodsport for breakfast, lunch.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, girls getaway.
Owner response: It makes us happy that you had a good time. We try to set up the home just the way we would like it if we were staying away from home. The home and location is really one of a kind! Thanks for commenting on your stay!

We really appreciated everything that the owner and manager did to make us feel welcome and at home these last few days. Thanks for being so helpful, responsive and accomodating! We felt right at home from the moment we walked inside and saw the fantastic Hood Canal views. We found the house was clean, tidy and well stocked. The home was furnished and decorated well and we all agreed that the beds were comfortable and the linens were good quality. The 2 bedroom home was just about right for our group of 4 but might be a bit crowded for more than 4 people. Next time we will plan to stay longer than just 3 nights. Thanks again, we will recommend your Union City Vacation Rental to others! Copied from owners guest bookDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

The photos do the place justice...it's very cute, although the bedrooms are quite small, and 4 adults is pretty tight. The deck is awesome, and the view is amazing. The place was clean as a whistle. However, the owner is doing work both inside and on the property, so it's not quite as finished as one expects when paying full price for your stay. We had to check in an hour later than quoted, for example, as the owner was installing trim around the front door....a door which was missing its doorknob and a working lock for the duration of our stay. There were stacks of drywall and tools stored in the kitchen, which was kind of a bummer to see. The outdoor shower did not work. Additionally, the beach is not accessible off the back deck, or the rear of the property, although it's only a short jog around the outside of the front of the house to a set of steps down to the shore. Very close to the highway, but also a quick walk to the Union Country Store, which is friendly, surprisingly well stocked and has amazing ice cream. Not for pets who require fencing, nor small children due to safety issues with the deck. Felt private, the owner was accessible, and the clams were delicious.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Thank you for the positive remarks...the deck is awesome and the view is amazing. We have moved the outdoor shower closer to the hose bib so that it can be connected by the guest when they wish to use it. The cosmetic stage of renovations is complete and the home is more functional and looks great! New photos have been put up on website. We have added extra protection to the deck so that no small children can slip through. Also, we have installed a perimeter fence so that dogs are safe and cant wander off and get lost. A new marine grade ladder was installed April 2013 so that guests can quickly, easily and safely step down from the deck to the beach and water. We are glad that you found the home cute, comfortable and clean as a whistle. Best Regards

The house was over the water!!! The view of the Olympic Mountains and up the canal was outstanding. We ate clams and oysters we collected from the beach in front. House was very comfortable, clean and well stocked. We could walk to the marina for renting kayaks, a cute little store for some groceries and to a good little restaurant. I really appreciated being able to bring our dog as well. We plan to be back soon!!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: MEE! Thank you for your comments Our guests really appreciate being in very close proximity to the little town of Union where you can rent kayaks, buy groceries at the Country Store or eat at the restaurant. I put the photo of your opening day monster crab on the website! Look forward to having you again soon!
