Carrabelle Beach house description
A Perfect Retreat for Retirees, Families, and International Guests:
Built in 1932, our home was once utilized as housing for family members of soldiers stationed at Camp Gordon Johnston, a WWII amphibious military training facility. It has been in our family for 5 generations.
Our home’s amenities include: morning coffee and beautiful sunsets from our large deck overlooking the gulf, the sound of seagulls and of waves lapping the shore, dolphin watching, shore fishing, flounder gigging, and crabbing, swimming and snorkeling in protected waters, long walks at low tide, star-gazing at night, the occasional manatee sighting, and a well-stocked bookshelf. This beach home is the place for you if you desire a getaway from your usual fast-paced lifestyle, in an old-timey Florida setting. There are two bedrooms and baths upstairs and an additional bedroom and bath downstairs. The downstairs also boasts a full kitchen and rec room with billiards/ping pong table. There is a television upstairs and down, and we offer WiFi for those who feel a need to remain 'connected'.
Other features of the surrounding area include:
Tate’s Hell Nature Trail, the historic Carrabelle Lighthouse and Museum, Camp Gordon Johnston World War II Museum, Dog Island ferry excursions, charter fishing, glass-bottom boat rides at Wakulla Springs, Panacea's Gulf Specimen Marine Lab (with touch pools for children), and a variety of local seafood eateries. Located about an hour’s drive from Tallahassee, and only twenty minutes from St. George Island and Apalachicola, this retreat can be tailored to your own adventurous spirit. Come and discover the true meaning of “The Forgotten Coast”.
Some of the annual events found in the local area include:
October: Low Country Boil in Port St. Joe
November: Apalachicola Seafood Festival
December: Carrabelle Holiday on the Harbor & Boat Parade of Lights
January: Apalachicola Oyster Cook-off
February: Low Country Boil in Port St. Joe
March: St. George Island Chili Cook-off.
April: Carrabelle River Front Festival

End of Summer Renter(s)
End of Summer Renter(s)
Some friends and I wanted to take an end of summer beach vacation to meet up with some long time friends, and Palms and Pines was the perfect place to do it at. I live in Charlotte, North Carolina now, but every year I like go to Florida for some sort of beach vacation. I've been everywhere from Miami to Panama City and so on. What makes Carabelle Beach stand out from other Floirda resorts is that it isnt over-run by tourists. Its a nice and tranquil place to enjoy time with friends and family. The weather was amazing and the beach is your back yard! Palms and Pines has a private beach where you can relax and bask in the sun with no one to interfere. Not like at public beaches where sometimes its hard to find a place to put your things (especially during peak season). Beach houses are always fun to rent because its like a home away from home. Palms and Pines was just that and more. There was so much room! From the 1st floor game room to the spacious back deck, we felt comfortable. So if anyone out there is reading about Palms and Pines and looking to rent their next beach vacation, I highly recommend this place! Trust me, you won't be disappointed.

Manager response: Thanks so very much for the great review! We're pleased to hear that you and your friends enjoyed the tranquility of our quiet little beach and had the opportunity to spend quality time together at our home. We love the solitude there and we're always happy to hear when others do as well. It's definitely the place to reconnect in a relaxing atmosphere! We hope you'll be back for more laid-back fun! Our time spent at your home was all we had hoped for. Looking for a peaceful home town like setting to relax and enjoy at our own pace. Other then a minor drain back up,the frig.freezer defrost malfunction, and a kitchen faucet that would surprise you if you turned it on wrong It realy was alright. We reported these problems and all were noted and or addressed immediately. The only possibly annoying thing was the noise from the furnace made it difficult to get a good nights sleep for the couple sleeping in the downstairs room.

Manager response: Thanks for your feedback! We are very pleased to have an excellent and responsive property manager. Shortly after your stay we did have a new refrigerator and stove installed in the upstairs kitchen, which gives it a fresh new look and great functionality. We're glad that you were able to overlook the few maintenance issues and enjoy our home enough to give it a 5 star rating!! We hope you'll choose to stay with us again when you return to "The Forgotten Coast". Owner- Palms and Pines
Perfect Spring Break
Perfect Spring Break
The best things about this beach house cannot be captured on a website. I will start by saying when we arrived, the house was the cleanest of any rental property I have encountered. We were worried because it was Spring Break week, and then pleasantly surprised that nobody else seems to know about this beautiful, hidden beach. I hesitate to write this review for fear that it will be discovered:) This property is the best of Old Florida, but with all of the modern conveniences for those who require them. We, however, are Old Florida kind of folks. Watch the sun rise from the deck or meander down to the beach before anyone else is awake. When you can't wait another minute longer, get on your swimsuit, hang a left at the end of the path, and walk until you run out of beach. Hold hands with your kid or sweetheart (or both) while you shuffle through tidal pools at low tide.Bring a bucket to fill with treasures you will stumble across: we found arrowheads, sea stars, sand dollars, and horseshoe crabs so small they can rest in the palm of your hand. Eat lunch then take a nap on the beach. Get the blender cranking in the afternoon while you cook dinner. Or try Two Al's down the street. They can have a plateful of shrimp, scallops, oysters, fish and hushpuppies ready in about ten minutes if you don't feel like cooking (though the kitchen has a new stovetop, oven and microwave). Make sure you take an evening walk and watch the sunset. After a game of cards, arm wrestle to decide who gets to sleep on the futon in the sunroom where you can listen to the waves and watch boats passing in the night. Stargazing is excellent from the porch. The bedrooms have new mattresses and pillows - good sleeping after lazy days. We took a side trip to the Gulf Marine Specimen Laboratory in Panacea (about a half hour away). It is a great place where you can see and touch marine life that is collected and sent to universities and laboratories all over the world for marine research. Many other activities are nearby, but this was my family's favorite by far. Time seems to stand still here when you need it to the most. A great beach house. We hope to return soon and often. Thank you so much to the owners for sharing it with us.

Manager response: Thank you for such positive feedback! We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay. We cherish our beach hideaway and are happy that we could share it with you. Our family has tried to preserve that Old Florida simplicity and charm even as we continue to update. Indeed, time does seem to stand still as you soak in the sights and sounds of Carrabelle Beach. About: Here I am in my father's arms, along with other family members, representing 3 out of 5 generations who have enjoyed lazy days at Carrabelle Beach. This photo was taken at Palms and Pines in 1963. So many memories! I am a first grade teacher, living in Mobile, Alabama, but am still making memories at our beach house with family and friends.
Why Carrabelle Beach:
I inherited this property in 1983. Because it has been in our family for 5 generations, it harbors a sense of warmth and continuity. Our home has evolved over the years, and offers the modern conveniences one would expect. The decor is simple, yet comfortable. What it may lack in sophistication is compensated for in character and charm.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The most unique aspect of 'Palms and Pines' is its secluded and almost completely private location. Carrabelle Beach remains virtually untouched, yet has proximity to many areas of interest and diversity. The area is teeming with wildlife, much of which can be observed without even leaving the deck!
