The pictures were obviously taken at least a decade ago because there are now big trees around the old 1960 or 1970's house. The "gormet kitchen" had many cabinets screwed shut, no basic supplies, dull old knives, a diswasher that was of questionable age and garbage disposal that barely worked. The "beach access" was at least 100 yards away past tumble-down shacks and old trailers with the only equipment a broken canoe that had to be decades old as well. We demanded a partial refund and left early after the first morning. This is not a legal rental.Owner response: Most of the pictures of the outside of the house are only a few years old, trees do grow here in Montana. The interior pictures were all updated within the last year. We have been in full compliance with all Montana State vacation rental regulations for the past nine years and file our quarterly reports and pay our Montana State Bed Taxes when due; all very legal. We state very plainly in our descriptions and on photo captions that the house is located about 200 yards from the lakeshore Members of this party seemed very disgruntled even as they arrived on the driveway and before they had even seen the house. Their stay turned out to be on a rainy spring weekend and a large part of their party had canceled out so they did not seem to need such a large house. We gave them the refund they requested quite promptly and with out fuss.

What a great property for a vacation! The house is huge especially for our smaller party and wonderful for pet parents! Has a very large deck with plenty of deck furniture to enjoy the terrific view of the orchard & lake. Centrally located for any activity you could possibly imagine, from shopping to bike riding to boating to great restaurants and theater, as well as close proximity to Glacier Park. Probably the only negative thing was that there was quite a bit of highway noise as the house is fairly close to the road. Didn't bother us much though. Also, the small rowboat wasn't in the best of shape so we didn't use it. All in all I would definitely recommend this property.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/3

Scott was very accommodating. His place is rustic with some great perks. We loved the natural hot tub and the view from the deck. Having Wi-Fi was a huge plus! If you walk to the lake bring your galoshes or boots. Driving to the lake was the best option for us. Whenever we had a question Scott was quick to respond.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

We came to the Lake Retreat Farm to celebrate my 40th Birthday. Our party in whole 24 people and 4 dogs. The house was beautiful and serene. The set up of the house is perfect for large parties. We fit 5 teenagers comfortably in one bedroom downstairs, which left an entire other bedroom open. The dance studio and large open basement left room for others to move and play comfortably. It also had a pull out couch for more to sleep. The view of the lake over looking the orchards and garden was beautiful. The walk to the lake was nice, very romantic to walk make from a day at the lakefront. They cherries, and fruit trees were an added bonuses. We were here for a week, with new members to the party arriving daily. The entire staff and Scott were so helpful and accommodating to our unique situation. The property is lush with many coves and interesting items to explore. I believe our party had five tents set up through out property all with private settings. We also had a boat and RV parked!! It was amazing! The chickens were fun to watch and in their own little area. The cars Scott has are really fun to look at. The property all is within a mile drive of a very nice Bay if you have a boat. It was completely accessible. The property is a nice quaint drive to Big fork.. with much sites along the way. This was one of the best weeks of my life. All and all I could go on and on pointing out the little things that made this property so great. Thanks Scott! We hope to make a stay at the Lake Front retreat an annual stay.Recommended for: Families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

Our program at Salish Kootenai College retreats for a week each year to do our annual evaluation report. As the program director, I try to locate a place that supports thoughtful and creative work. I believe it is also important to work in a place that is pleasant and rewarding for the long work hours during the week. The Lake Retreat Farm provided all of that and more. A great sitting spot by the water for reflection and rejuvenation, and the house had all the comforts - and wifi! The location to Kalispell and Bigfork was a plus for great places to share evening meals. The owner, Scott, was a gracious host and brought a basket of mouth-watering peaches and a dozen eggs from his hens. We couldn't have asked for more!Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

Family of 13, Grandparents 50th Wedding Anniversary. I liked the layout of the place. Adult couples each had a room and the grandparents stayed in their RV in the driveway. Kids were all in the big open space (dance floor?) in the lower level, which worked out great. The deck was nice, we had one meal out there and the rest at the big dining table. The dining table was tight for 13, but we were there to be together so that was great. I loved the private beach. It is a rocky beach, so chairs were necessary, but it is east facing so while mornings were cool, we could swim until 9 p.m. when it got dark because the sun was on us all day. I have no negative comments--they provided plenty of cookware, dishes, towels. Everything was clean and we left it that way so we got our deposit and cleaning fee back. The only consideration I would make would have been for grandpa who had trouble walking the rocky road down and back (3 minutes down, 5 back up) and there was no shade for him all day unless he sat waaay back in the trees (the rest of us loved the hot sun all day). The beach toys were okay. We brought our own canoe, but the kids loved the paddle boards (actually windsurfing boards). Also, the hot tub was fun, but I don't know if I'd pay the extra fee--it wasn't all that hot. Although the others loved it, especially the kids after getting out of the lake at night. I think we'd stay here again. We didn't spend much time in the house, but everyone seemed comfortable with their rooms and the kitchen served it's purpose--we had plenty of room to make meals and serve food. The owner was always around somewhere and very attentive to any questions or concerns we had.Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, girls getaway.

This very large home was very comfortable for 8 adults and 5 dogs. We all sat around the dining room table for dinner each night and slept in 3 bedrooms and another area, enjoying 3 full bathrooms. The deck was of great size and perfect for the dogs as well. They also had a fenced in area. The BBQ was huge as we were able to make dinner for all 8 of us on the BBQ. The satelite TV, WiFi and computer were extras that we truly enjoyed. We picked fruit and enjoyed the lake frontage. The air conditioner was a relief during the 90+ degree days. Our only complaints were the pull out beds that had bars across and were uncomfortable. The master bedroom was hot and each night the septic pump made noise. Other than these few things, we were very happy that we could all be together in the same house with the pets. There must be very few places that would accomodate everyone and be so comfortable. We'd like to thank the owner for making our stay so enjoyable and we wouldn't hesitate to come back soon.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, tourists without a car.

Our family of 11 ranging from 10 yrs old to 70 had a wonderful week at your home on the lake. I especially loved the very private beach. Good lounges for sitting. The walk down to it wasn't bad except near the end the path was wet and muddy--not very good for the elderly. Owners very acommodating. Kitchen is great, bedrooms also good. Dining rm table good for large crowd. Living room area could be better if there is a large amount of people. A suggestion would be ---incorporate the sun room with the living room--- a couple more comfy chairs. We loved all the wall art and plants. The deck was great with a view of the lake. Thank you very much. Everyone had a great time.Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, sightseeing.

About the owner: We live here year around and in the summer we move out of the house and live close to the lake shore in a wooded clearing in our RV. We are usually near by and can assist to insure your vacation staying with us is a pleasant experience for everyone in your group. You can visit our booth at the Whitefish Farmers Market during the summer where we sell organic fruit from our farm.(see Photo).

We enjoy all the different seasons as it is a change from So. Calif. where we used to live. We have good air connections here to travel conveniently. Even though we enjoy the rural living, our nearby cities have the entertainment and group activities we also enjoy (theater, music events, dancing and other clubs and groups doing may activities that we can participate in.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
We enjoy swimming and boating the the summer, cross country skiing in the winter. A good hiking trail is nearby. Biking is fun in the fall when the hwy. traffic is less.
