Our program at Salish Kootenai College retreats for a week each year to do our annual evaluation report. As the program director, I try to locate a place that supports thoughtful and creative work. I believe it is also important to work in a place that is pleasant and rewarding for the long work hours during the week. The Lake Retreat Farm provided all of that and more. A great sitting spot by the water for reflection and rejuvenation, and the house had all the comforts - and wifi! The location to Kalispell and Bigfork was a plus for great places to share evening meals. The owner, Scott, was a gracious host and brought a basket of mouth-watering peaches and a dozen eggs from his hens. We couldn't have asked for more!

Family of 13, Grandparents 50th Wedding Anniversary. I liked the layout of the place. Adult couples each had a room and the grandparents stayed in their RV in the driveway. Kids were all in the big open space (dance floor?) in the lower level, which worked out great. The deck was nice, we had one meal out there and the rest at the big dining table. The dining table was tight for 13, but we were there to be together so that was great. I loved the private beach. It is a rocky beach, so chairs were necessary, but it is east facing so while mornings were cool, we could swim until 9 p.m. when it got dark because the sun was on us all day. I have no negative comments--they provided plenty of cookware, dishes, towels. Everything was clean and we left it that way so we got our deposit and cleaning fee back. The only consideration I would make would have been for grandpa who had trouble walking the rocky road down and back (3 minutes down, 5 back up) and there was no shade for him all day unless he sat waaay back in the trees (the rest of us loved the hot sun all day). The beach toys were okay. We brought our own canoe, but the kids loved the paddle boards (actually windsurfing boards). Also, the hot tub was fun, but I don't know if I'd pay the extra fee--it wasn't all that hot. Although the others loved it, especially the kids after getting out of the lake at night. I think we'd stay here again. We didn't spend much time in the house, but everyone seemed comfortable with their rooms and the kitchen served it's purpose--we had plenty of room to make meals and serve food. The owner was always around somewhere and very attentive to any questions or concerns we had.

This very large home was very comfortable for 8 adults and 5 dogs. We all sat around the dining room table for dinner each night and slept in 3 bedrooms and another area, enjoying 3 full bathrooms. The deck was of great size and perfect for the dogs as well. They also had a fenced in area. The BBQ was huge as we were able to make dinner for all 8 of us on the BBQ. The satelite TV, WiFi and computer were extras that we truly enjoyed. We picked fruit and enjoyed the lake frontage. The air conditioner was a relief during the 90+ degree days. Our only complaints were the pull out beds that had bars across and were uncomfortable. The master bedroom was hot and each night the septic pump made noise. Other than these few things, we were very happy that we could all be together in the same house with the pets. There must be very few places that would accomodate everyone and be so comfortable. We'd like to thank the owner for making our stay so enjoyable and we wouldn't hesitate to come back soon.

Our family of 11 ranging from 10 yrs old to 70 had a wonderful week at your home on the lake. I especially loved the very private beach. Good lounges for sitting. The walk down to it wasn't bad except near the end the path was wet and muddy--not very good for the elderly. Owners very acommodating. Kitchen is great, bedrooms also good. Dining rm table good for large crowd. Living room area could be better if there is a large amount of people. A suggestion would be ---incorporate the sun room with the living room--- a couple more comfy chairs. We loved all the wall art and plants. The deck was great with a view of the lake. Thank you very much. Everyone had a great time.

We had a group of eleven, from grandparents to grandchildren. The house was comfortable, view from the deck was fantastic, new barbecue was a treat, wi-fi available, newer w/d great for a crowd, the living room furniture wasn't the most comfortable, but it served its purpose. The kids had a great time using the paddleboards and the row boat, and Grandpa enjoyed the canoe. The beach is perfect for sunning and swimming, the sunsets were gorgeous. The fire-pit was set up and ready for us but we never got a chance to use it. The walk down to the lake is rocky and difficult for some to walk down. There is a parking spot that gets you closer (and an outhouse if needed), and the trail from there is muddy, but worth the trek to the beach. The cherries were ripe and delicious, the sheep and chickens ran away. The owners were available when we had questions. We would recomend it for a large gathering. Plenty to do. Recomendations: Flathead Raft Company (for whitewater rafting and Wild Horse Island tour), Glacier National Park (for hiking), Eastshore Smokehouse (great food!), Pocketstone Cafe (Bigfork), and Whitefish for shopping.

A family getaway consisting of six adults and four kids under 14-years-old, we spent four days at the lake house and enjoyed the Flathead Lake/Glacier area. The house was fully furnished with kitchen supplies and ready upon our arrival. The lake was an easy downhill 5-minute walk from the house. The lake shore is made up of millions of small roundish rocks that the kids enjoyed collecting. The water was nice for swimming so bring anything you like to use in the water. Snorkels and masks highly recommended. Water shoes might be something to bring along for adults who don't have tough feet like kids for wading in the lake. Bigfork is a short drive away for supplies or if you want to go out for dinner or just browse the shops. If it should rain the house has plenty of movies and books on hand. The area has plenty to offer in the way of outdoor recreation, so bring your hiking shoes, backpacks, mountain bikes, binoculars, cameras, fishing poles, etc for whatever you might want to do. Scott, Betty and crew were very helpful when we called with questions.

All nine of us had a very pleasant week using Lake Retreat House as our base to explore the region. The rock beach was lots of fun for children and adults; the canoe and row boat had a workout! We gorged on the cherrys in the orchard all week. WIFI worked well. The deck worked well for the evening we hosted 30 relatives for an inside / outside dinner.

The pictures and descriptions are accurate of the property. The house has a large dining and living room area that fit our party very well. The house was clean and we used the kitchen for most meals. This is a good property for large groups. We had 8-11 people here all week and used the barbeque and deck for dinners. Worked very well. The beach front is down the lane. We used the canoe and the inflatable floating toy. Nothing fancy, but a good view of the lake.

Our group is from Montana and travel to this area around the same time every year. This year we opted for a rental home instead of a motel and it was the best choice. The house was clean, comfortable, and relaxing. The rental came with canoes and other water devices to use on the lake. We had 16 people in our group ranging from age 11-55. Each age group enjoyed the property entirely. I will happily recommend this home to anyone interested in having a blast on the lake. The house is very accessible to all the area attractions.

My large group (two families and teenagers with dog just spent 6 nights at the Flathead lake Retreat Farm. We had 14 in our group. Prior to submitting this review I read the previous review dated June 11th by someone who was not very satisfied with their stay. Let me say that I found this home fabulous! The rooms were very spacious and comfortable. Everything was VERY clean. The stove/oven is a very nice gas stove which I found easy to cook on. The kitchen was well equipped with every appliance I needed. I have stayed at other VRBO Rentals that were not as well equipped. There was an extra fridge in the basement which we were able to use also. I found that there were plenty of towels and all the linens were clean. All my kids slept on the futons and they were in great condition. The home was decorated in very interesting pieces that were clearly purchased over seas. The Persian rugs and tapestry that were hung gave the home a comfortable feel. The library of books, DVD's and VHS videos was extensive and there was something for everyone. The deck outside was large and easily accommodated everyone in our group. I found the furniture outside durable, comfortable and something that was easily cleaned. The whole family took a walk around the grounds and saw the chickens and sheep. They were well cared for and it was fun to watch them. Scott was gracious enough to provide fresh eggs for breakfast to our group one morning. The lake was a little further than we had anticipated but the walk was easy and it gave us all a little exercise. The hot tub was well worth the additional cost and we ended up using it every night instead of the two nights we had originally planned on. I have stayed at numerous VRBO Rentals throughout the Montana and found that this home was one of my more favorites. Scott was on the propoerty numerous times through out the day so if we had questions we were able to ask him. The teenagers had a blast at the fire pit and we were able to light off fireworks right on the beach. The kids had a blast with the canoe and boat. Bottom line this was a great location and enjoyable time for us. For our family it was a spacious home and grounds and the home was comfortable which when you have 8 kids and a dog on a trip you want to have a location that is fun, safe and comfortable for everyone to enjoy which is what I feel we had. We will definitly be staying there again.

I am pretty sure the owners made up the reviews themselves.First of all it looked nothing like the pictures. The kitchen:gross.Plain and simply. We would pull dishes out of the cupboards and rewash them. The cupboards smelled like mold/mildew and it was very unpleasant. The burners on the stove did not work on the low settings so food was burned. Pots and pans they left in this so called "gourmet kitchen" were from 1960 so food would have burned anyways. Most of the cupboards were locked up and had little "not for guest used" signs taped on them which seemed very tacky. The furniture, bedding, towels, etc were gross. Who hangs old dirty persian rugs on the wall?Towels smelled like mildew. The dance floor area downstairs was cluttered with old gross futon mattresses and a bunch of rolled up persian rugs that we had to move out of the way. You could hardly get to the messy laundry area and when you did it was so disorganized you could not find anything.Old dirty buckets and empty or no name cleaning supply bottles and the dirty cleaning rags were what was there for cleaning supplies. There were only two garbage bags for us to use for 3 days. The deco of the place was basically pieced together from garage sales. You can get cheap decos at walmart!!They did not get the hot tub ready for us as i requested. The canoe and "row boat" were not ready for us.The row boat looked totally unsafe. They did not even take care of the fire pit down below. It was about 2 years worth of ashes. No fire wood. Long story short, this place could be beautiful but it is totally not taken care of.For what they are charging we felt ripped off. The "orchard" wasnt taken care of or mowed. The chickens were impossible to get to to feed and their coop looked like the humane society needed to be contacted. There were hobo spiders in the basement where our kids were sleeping.A bite from one of those will make your skin rot off!The deck was ok but furniture plastic and crappy. The refrigerator was very small and old as well. They did give me back my cleaning deposit but I didn't see why we were charged for one in the first place. Also had to call 3 different people when we needed help or had a question.
Owner response:This young woman’s complaints and accusations are largely false. I cannot say what motivated her to make such untrue statements in her review but it certainly was not the real conditions of our home or property. I will respond to her accusations in order, up to the 2500 spaces allowed by VRBO : (Ask for the complete response, I will send it to you) All guest reviews are copied 100% complete and accurate from our guest book just as our guests hand wrote them (usually on the day of their departure). Our guest reviews during the past five years are overwhelmingly positive excepting for this one malcontent. All the web site pictures are unedited and taken with a simple digital camera by a non professional photographer. They are an accurate representation of our home. We have posted dozens of photos on this site and in the “more photos section” to insure guests know just what they are renting before they make a reservation. Two days before this guests arrival all the cupboards in the kitchen were totally emptied, cleaned first with vinegar spray and second with hydrogen peroxide spray to thoroughly sanitize them. Her assertions are absurd. The stove is a commercial grade Viking range which works just as intended. The flame is much hotter than a standard home stove. It is necessary to adjust the heat even below the low setting to simmer a small pan of food. We provide good quality Enamel cookware, Pyrex glass cookware, Revere Ware stainless steel pans, a large traditional steel wok and a new Teflon wok. I do not believe all people in 1960 had to eat burned food, I never ate burned food in 1960 due to the 1960’s cookware. It is typical for owner occupied vacation homes to have some closets and cupboards closed off to guests. With out the signs, we have had guests try to yank open locked cupboards thinking they were simply stuck and break the doors. It was very expensive to repair broken solid oak kitchen cabinet doors so now we use signs also. All towels and linens are laundered in the hottest water, w/ bleach rinse, usually line dried in the sun and then machine dried to insure they are fresh and clean for each group of guests. I can understand that an occasional towel could be stored too long on the bottom of the pile or somehow get put away still damp but her all inclusive accusation concerning all the furniture, bedding and towels is grossly untrue Who hangs tapestries or old Persian rugs on the wall? : Museums, Medieval Castles, Mans

When I arrived at the property I was disappointed in what I found. I should have researched the actual location better before reserving the property. The house is located about 100 feet from a pretty busy highway (Hwy 35) and during the day there is a fair amount of car and tractor trailer traffic-not what I wanted to hear on my vacation. There is a nice big deck from which to enjoy the scenery but it was in poor repair (lots of chipping paint). Most of the furniture and beds in the house was uncomfortable. The couch was especially uncomfortable. The positives-a helpful landlord and a very nice, quiet beach to enjoy the scenery from and to swim from.
Owner response:: LOCATION It is very important to check the details of the location that are most important to your vacation before making a reservation. This house is not immediately on the lakeshore as this party expected when they arrived. The house is just off a very beautiful and scenic rural highway (Montana State Hwy 35 is 2 lane w/ 35 to 50 mph speed limits). The highway cannot be seen from the house or from the deck due to the lush plantings in front of the house which also screen out the traffic noise such that in five years time we have never had a complaint about traffic noise. See the “more photos” section of this listing for complete location views. Most of our guests (especially large active family groups) appreciate our convenient location for quick and easy coming and going on excursions during their stay. Yet we still offer the tranquility and privacy of three rural acres of open woods, orchard and lakeshore. DECK The deck is kept in good repair; it is repainted at least every two years. However it is a 30 year old natural redwood deck. Most of our guests spend lots of time on the large deck area so it gets much hard use during the summer. At the end of the summer season (when these guests stayed) there are areas that are chipped and scraped. The photo of the deck, on this site, was taken just last year and shows it in good condition. FURNITURE Most of the furniture in the main room is very high quality expensive Danish Modern solid teak and solid rosewood furniture. As is typical for Scandinavian style furniture, the couch was designed for comfortable sitting but neither for sleeping nor lying on. The dining room chairs are all solid oak without upholstery as we feel this is more hygienic for a family dining area. We can only assume this guest preferred more softly padded styles of furniture (of which we do have some in the house). BEDS The upstairs bedrooms are furnished with heirloom cherry wood and solid oak high quality furniture. The mattresses in these bedrooms are less than three years old and are high quality brand name extra firm mattresses in perfect condition. The downstairs queen bed has a Simmons firm mattress and box springs in excellent condition. We can only assume this guest did not like firm mattresses. SUMMARY Unfortunately this guest did not mention his preference for softer furniture and mattresses to us during his stay or we would have accommodated his desires as best as we could.

There were 9 of us. Your home is spacious and roomy, the location is convenient to everything from Glacier Park to Polson and everything in between. And of course we picnicked down on your beach several times, pit fire, bar-b-que and all. We fed your chickens, sheep and fish. For a family vacation offering something for everyone.
