This downtown estate is as central as they come and creates the perfect home base for exploring Austin. You are in historic Judges Hill, downtown's last single-family neighborhood, just twelve blocks from the Capitol and UT. Great restaurants like The Clay Pit and the Mansion at Judges Hill are within half that distance.
A short walk also reaches the Blanton Museum, the IMAX Theater, Pease Park, the AT&T Executive Center, the four-star Carillon restaurant, numerous other downtown restaurants and bars and many more important Austin landmarks.
Completely private and hidden from the street, the home is surrounded by large hedges and towering oaks that provide plenty of shade for a balmy Texas summer. If that doesn't keep you cool, the large pool will definitely do the trick.
The landmark house was built in 1955 by Judge James McClendon, Chief Justice of the Texas Court of Civil Appeals. In 1966 it became home to Dr. George Kozmetsky, co-founder of Teledyne and dean of UT's School of Business. He founded tech incubator IC2 and is widely regarded as a father of Austin's tech industry. In the wood-paneled library at the west end of the home, he served as mentor to numerous future tech leaders, including Michael Dell.
The lush vegetation surrounding the property is the first thing you notice on approach and is maintained by a dedicated professional grounds team. Upon entering, enjoy the view through the living room to the large, private pool amid lush lawns. The living and family rooms are great conversation spots, and the historic library at the west end of the home now hosts an amazing game room. It boasts a pool table, a wet bar and a theater with a 125-inch screen that rivals the IMAX! A tactile transducer with a bypass amplifier powers subwoofer speaker magnets bolted to the seating frames. So, if watching Jurassic Park, you'll feel as though there's an actual dinosaur in the room with you!
If you love to cook, this kitchen is the place to be. It comes fully equipped with everything from an espresso machine to an ice cream maker. There are two of everything: refrigerators, ovens, dishwashers, sinks and microwaves. It was built that way with the entertainer in mind, and has stainless steel appliances, marble countertops and a warming drawer. The trash compactor makes cleaning up a breeze. Stocked with enough cookware to make a 'Top Chef' happy, it has a pantry with a collection of spices and non-perishable items. Also enjoy instant hot water and a whole-house carbon filtration system.

We really enjoyed our stay. It was a great location -- very convenient for getting anywhere in town. The house was beautiful and well-maintained. The screened-in porch was perfect for avoiding mosquitos (which are everywhere in Austin), and the pool was lovely. The management company was very helpful and easy to work with.
