Home away from home
Home away from home
We stayed at the Bar V Ranch for two weeks in July and it far exceeded our expectations. The photos here set our expectations high, but don't come close to portraying the love that went into restoring this beautiful home. It's luxurious, yes (travertine baths, chef's kitchen, google tvs in the bedrooms, beds that swallow you whole -- in a good way), but so much attention went in to preserving the character of the place, from the moldings and doors, to the paint colors, to the furnishings. The wrap around porch was unbelievable and had great seating on every side so no matter if you wanted sun or shade, it was handy. The kitchen was fully stocked both with everything we needed (and more!). The place was immaculate. The setting is spectacular with mountains, barns and wildlife a beautiful backdrop for this stunning retreat. Our main focus was outdoor recreation and Clark Fork was convenient to what we wanted to do. Three prime areas for kayaking are within a 10 minute drive of the house. Hiking was close and gorgeous with plenty of terrain to choose from. Lots of huckleberries if, the season is right. As far as restaurants go, Clark Fork has three: a deli (where they make their own bread and cinnamon rolls), to a diner -- great breakfast and lunch, to a pretty nice place for dinner, where the waitress sings. Close by in Hope is a pizza place and maybe another couple of places. There is no night life at all (which was ok by us), but Sandpoint is a half hour away. We only ventured there once, but there is plenty to choose from there. for both nightlife and restaurants. The Sniders were great to work with and very accommodating. They were easy to find when we had questions about things to do or even just the history of the area. Must sees: Kayaking: Johnson Creek, Driftwood park (then go into the preserve) Pack River. Hiking: Lake Estelle, Ross Creek Grove of Ancient Cedars (more of a walk than a hike). Horseback riding: Western Pleasures; Bird Aviation Museum (other side of Sandpoint), Ross Must eat: Pantry (home made breads and pastries), Cabinet (breakfast/lunch), Floating Restaurant (kayak to it -- in Hope), Pack River General Store, Ice House Pizza (Hope)

What a view!
What a view!
My family and I had a wonderful stay at the Bar V. To wake up and look out your windows to see the Elk feeding in the morning in your backyard with the mountains in the background. So peaceful and beautiful. We go back anytime.

Historic B&B that felt like home!
Historic B&B that felt like home!
We had a wonderful time at the Bar V! The kids saw deer in the fields and it was so peaceful and tranquil. The views from the property are incredible. The home itself is absolutely beautiful and the owners were kind and eager to make sure our stay was perfect and it was! The breakfasts were amazing, too! We could not have been more pleased and can't wait to go back!

Clark Fork is sleepy but cute. I never expected to find such a comfortable, roomy place to stay that would also have every modern amenity and very sophisticated finishes. Meticulously renovated without losing its pioneer spirit - a rare combo of luxury and solace. Highly recommended by this international traveller with very high standards.
