Santa Croce apartment description
This 2 bedrooms, 2 baths apartment is located in the heart of Florence in “Palazzo Virginio”, a recently renovated historical building on Via Ghibellina. It is just 3 minutes walk to Piazza Santa Croce, and 10 minutes to the Duomo, Piazza della Signoria e Ponte Vecchio. Bus service is nearby.
Open the door to a beautiful marble entry which leads you to the elevator taking you to the first floor apartment. The apartment is furnished with a blend of antique and modern furnishings, and has typical tuscan terracotta floors throughout. The apartment orientation away from the street and facing an internal delicious and sunny courtyard provides a quiet retreat in the heart of the city.
On the entry level, the foyer leads you to the light-filled open kitchen, dining and living area with a balcony overlooking the courtyard. A spacious bathroom with bathtub is also on this floor. To provide additional privacy the bedrooms and a bathroom with shower are located on the lower level.
The aparment is very spacious and it's very well suitable for weekly stays, it has been completely renovated and the building was originally a small theatre.
The neighborhood is typically Florentine, near the Sant'Ambrogio market where you’ll find meat, fresh season vegetables and fruits, produce and groceries, as well as restaurants such as Cibreo and the Enotecca Pinchiorri, reputedly one of the best restaurants in the world. The world-renown ice-cream shop Vivoli is nearby. The area is also renown for its antiques shops and monthly Antique Market (Mercato delle Pulci), the last Sunday of every month.
Immediately across the street there is a square closed to traffic surrounded by a former prison “Le Murate”, which has been converted into apartments, a pizzeria-restaurant, a literary cafe, which provides local entertainment and color.
You will find this central neighborhood, and especially our apartment, an excellent choice for your stay in Florence.

This is a comfortable, well furnished, and well-placed apartment laid out on two floors (living room, kitchen, and one bathroom on the main floor and bedrooms and another bathroom down a set of stairs). Everything works and works well. The building is newly renovated, attractive, clean, and well-maintained, and the owners are very helpful. The apartment is a short walk from the tourist center, on a quiet stretch of one of the main streets in the old town. It is also near several bus lines that are easy to use, and is close to the wonderful San Ambrosio market and in a neighborhood of good restaurants, cafes, and wine bars (including our favorite restaurant, Acqua Cotta).

Wonderful Stay!Guest comment entered by owner
Thank you Laura and Paula for cleaning, organization and quality of the apartment, which is very complete. Everything worked fine, great washing machine and the balcony was excellent for drying the clothes. They provided a cot for my baby with extremely clean linens. The check-in and checkout was very simple. The location of the apartment is also very good. Is ideal for families and I would certainly recommend to my friends.

Great find!Guest comment entered by owner
What a great find! Laura and Paola were fantastic hosts, very responsive and helpful with local tips and recommendations. The apartment was a great size for our group (two couples). We each had our own bathroom which was a lovely luxury. The apartment was in a great location too and very quiet. Just to note - It may not be obvious by the photos but the bedrooms and one bathroom are downstairs. There is no clothes dryer either but we used airers on the balcony and had no problem plus were given details of a local laundromat if needed. All in all, a fabulous experience! We'll be back :)

Beautiful placeGuest comment entered by owner
This is a beautiful place in an area that is close enough to all tourist attractions but not too close. The house is well appointed and the building is quiet and relaxing. It served as a haven from the bustling streets. There are nice Cafes and a market nearby. The host sisters were punctual and helpful and there were no complications with our stay. I look forward to returning.

We had a perfect stay. Plenty of room for four people (one couple and two young adults). Terrific location, central but a off the beaten path. The apartment is large, quiet, had everything we needed. Excellent directions on how to use appliances and directions to the local grocery stores and markets. We would definitely return.

We stayed 5 days in this lovely apartment. Laura and Paola were in to see that we were well installed. They helped with the Internet connection, the laundry and ordered taxis for us. The pictures were exactly what the apartment looked like. The elevator was great for the baggage, otherwise it was not needed. The location was very good with everything in walking distance. We walked along the Arno River several times as we went to the Duomo or Ponte Vecchio. The train station, where we went to Pisa and Venice was a nice distance from the apartment, by taxi. It was great to go shopping at the St. Ambrogio Market in the morning and there were restaurants in the vicinity if we didn't want to cook. Our whole experience in Florence was wonderful; great weather, lots to visit, beautiful church and piazza closeby, great shopping and the crowds were not as numerous as Rome. We would love to visit Florence again because 5 days was not long enough and we would not hesitate to stay in this Santa Croce apartment.

This apartment is located on the edge of tourist area, but was quite well appointed and connected to transportation links. I would whole-heartedly recommend you give it a try. The apartment opens on an interior courtyard so there is little street noise. It is a short walk to two supermarkets, Conad [Via Pietrapiana 42, a location which you might walk past on your way home from the Duomo] and, Coop [Via Cimabue 47r], of which I preferred the latter having a larger selection and self service check outs with an English computer interface. It is also close to the Route 14 Ataf bus stops. This route is a high frequency route and very handy, in that it runs within 1 block of Il Duomo [stop PUCCI], 1 block of the Gallery of the Academy [stop MUSEO DE SAN MARCO], and also stops at the Santa Maria Novella train station. The hosts, Laura and her sister Paola were wonderful [and I am not one to lavish needless praise]. They were waiting for us at the apartment at the agreed time when we arrived, and gave us a good familiarization tour. They were also available for us by phone for more urgent matters and by email for minor matters. On our first day, I let them know by email that there was no corkscrew in the apartment, [a minor matter] but one of them was by in a few hours to drop one off. This was great service, but unnecessary as I picked one up while shopping and I was just letting them know I and not taken the one from the apartment. Similarly, as we were planning to leave at 5 in the morning on new year’s day, and were trying to book a taxi on the prior afternoon, our hosts came to our aid and called 2 taxi companies, 4 limousine companies and the airport, in a process through which we determined that none of these agencies would accept a booking for the very early hours of new year’s day. As a last ditch effort, they told us to call them if we could not get a cab then next morning. One of the hosts suggested that we might get her boyfriend to squeeze us into his car and get us to the airport. The bus system was not starting early enough to get to the station for the airport shuttle. Happily, we did not need to rely on the host’s boyfriend as we were able to hail a cab on the major street to the eastwithin minutes of leaving the apartment. The fact of the offer of using the boyfriend to help us get to our flight was above and beyond the call of duty. So you can see why I recommend this apartment and its hosts without any reservation.

We had a wonderful time in Florence
Thank you again for our stay at your residence. Everything was fine at your home in terms of accommodations! Clean and neat. Beds and washrooms good. We had a wonderful time in Florence. It’s a beautiful city in many ways. The area surrounding your apt was great, enjoyed the “old prison” area across the street and a few restaurants around there. We walked everywhere even to the river (Galileo museum) and visited all the main sites! Sorry we couldn’t get together for a dinner. Thank you for taking the time to prepare a menu. We will recommend your place!
