We had a great holiday in beautiful historic Newport. The house is in a super location, is spacious and comfortable. The owners live locally and are very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed visiting Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard, Nantucket, and Boston during our stay, only a 90 minute drive away. We loved the history of Newport and thoroughly enjoyed the 4th Of July celebrations in Washington Square. (Particularly as we are British ;) The mansions on Bellevue Ave, Tennis Hall of Fame, Sailing on a Schooner, a Baseball Game in the lovely old wooden stadium, seafood at the wharf and sundowners on the lawn at Castle Hill Hotel, so much to do, see and taste. A fantastic holiday.

Major renovations had not been done in 2012, so the house looks much better. It is *very* centrally located, which is great but does have its drawbacks. The adjacent concert hall, The Jane Pickens Theater, hosts major concerts and you can feel like you are in the front row at a rock concert. This happened to us and the concert went until ~12:30 AM. The roadies then proceeded to park a moving van in front of the house that completely blocked the home's front entrance (fire code violation?). Removal of all musical equipment continued until ~1:30 AM. On hot summer evenings, that makes a lot of noise with the windows open. So families should be aware. This location may be much more appropriate for a younger crowd. Another disturbing event occurred after we mistakenly left behind a phone charger cord. We immediately alerted the realtor and the owner. The realtor said the owner found it when cleaning and would make it available if we came through Newport. We had friends passing through Newport and they made a special detour to get the charger cord at the realty office. However, when they arrived there was no cord and there was no further effort to get it to us. This was less than helpful. Despite these problems, the house is very close to lots of Newport attractions. It is a wonderfully historic area and a house with much character. The new renovations appear to have improved the interior substantially, which was necessary. Being in the center of town also creates challenges for parking, but the renovations appear to have solved that problem as well with two additional spaces. The one space in 2012 was very narrow and next to a utility pole; not easily accessible for most family size cars.
