You won't be sorry!
Slayton is only 5 miles away and has much to offer for all ages and interests. Step back in time in the historic Dinehart/Holt House and the Murray County Historical Museum (my favorite time to see it is when they have it all decked out for a haunted Halloween). Pick apples at the apple orchard north of Slayton, splash in the zero entry pool or zip down the giant water slide at Slaytona Beach West in the summer, and enjoy one of the several parks anytime of the year. With a bustling downtown, Slayton offers a wide variety of shops. Stop by the local bakery early so that you don't miss out on their fabulous glazed yeast donuts, then head over to Left Bank Cafe for fresh roasted coffee. Now that you have fuel for shopping, you'll have to decide whether you'd like to pick up something unique and flashy at One Stop Diva Shop or admire the beautiful home decor items at The Hut. If you're looking to update your wardrobe, you won't want to miss a stop at Geyerman's. My personal favorite store in Slayton is Second Wind Antiques & More, which has a wide array of bargains and a continually changing inventory. After you've worked up an appetite, you will have a number of restaurants to choose from including Pizza Ranch, Subway, the new Jupiter Bar & Grill, and a local favorite The Grain Exchange. Pizza Ranch will deliver to Summit Lake Lodge as well, or you can take subs back to enjoy on the deck.
A stay at Summit Lake Lodge will provide you a private lakeside getaway just off Hwy. 30 between Lake Wilson and Slayton. For reference, Pipestone is 23 miles to the west, Marshall Is 38 miles to the north, and Worthington is 35 miles to the south, and it is 74 miles from Sioux Falls, SD. The renowned Wilder Pageant in Walnut Grove, MN, is a quick 35 miles away, and on the way is the Wheels Across the Prairie Museum in Tracy, MN.

Joey and I have known each other for a very long time and have only recently started dating. The week at Summit Lake was the first time that my oldest daughter and Joey's children have met. Plus our extended families came for a cook out and to visit - thats the first time in almost 30 years and the setting could not have been more perfect! Plenty of room for everyone, the canoe, the lake, fishing, family dinners, making home made ice cream, "Buddy's Visits" and the horses and wildlife. Getting fish to leap out of the lake in front of the cabin was not only memorable, but impressive! The memories made in those 5 days will nourish our relationship and be cherished by all who were able to make the visit. Thank you so much for opening your home to us, we really enjoyed every minute! Cindy and Dale were wonderful and very gracious in helping us navigate our needs. We hope all the visits go as smoothly as ours and that the happy memories continue to multiply the positive energy that exists in that special home. All the best to you and your family! Dear Stephanie & Kyle, I just wanted to take a minute to let you know that Joe and I had a wonderful time at your lake house. As I mentioned before, Joey and I have known each other for a very long time and have only recently started dating. Last week was the first time that my oldest daughter and his children have met and our extended families have come together in almost 30 years. The setting could not have been more perfect! The memories made in those 5 days will nourish our relationship and be cherished by all who were able to make the visit. Thank you so much for opening your home to us, we really enjoyed every minute! Cindy and Dale were wonderful and very gracious in helping us navigate our needs. Special thanks to Dale for the buggy-ride tour of the town he gave us, everyone loved it! We hope all the visits go as smoothly as ours and that the happy memories continue to multiply the positive energy that exists in that special home. All the best to you and your family! About: Kyle and I grew up in the area, married just out of high school and attended college together at South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD. Kyle commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Air Force in 1997 and we have been stationed in Oklahoma, Alaska, North Dakota, Belgium, and Kansas. In fall 2010, the kids and I moved to this home in SW MN to be near my parents while Kyle deployed to Qatar for 16 months. This home now houses our antiques that we acquired from our overseas travels, provides us a vacation home while we continue our Air Force adventure, and is our long-term 'forever home' which we plan to move back to when Kyle's Air Force career has reached its end.
Why Hadley:
Kyle and I wanted a home in SW MN, near family, that would provide the kids and I a retreat while he served our country during a 16-month deployment. We love antiques, homes with Craftsman character, and the serenity of rural lake life, and this home fit our family perfectly. It just so happened that my parents had done much of the work years earlier when my dad purchased pasture land surrounding Summit Lake in Hadley, MN, as an anniversary gift for my mother in 1997. Over the years, they developed the property, parceling out large lots and selling them to the public. They moved their 1936 Craftsman home from nearby Iona, MN, in 2002, placing it on a full basement, attaching a 3+ garage and remodeling the kitchen. My parents agreed to sell the home to us in 2010, and it allowed them to downsize to a smaller home across the road. We look forward to being able to spend more time there in the future with the incredible views, relaxing lake activities, and the calm of nature. Summit Lake Lodge symbolizes family, togetherness, and the simplicity of rural lake life and holds a very dear place in our hearts.
