A visit to Sunrise Farmhouse is like having your own place in the country. This restored two-story farmhouse on fifteen acres is located in the heart of in the beautiful Allegheny Highlands of Virginia. Enjoy the many natural wonders, recreational and cultural opportunities the region has to offer, or spend your days relaxing “at home” enjoying the idyllic views and solitude. The original farmhouse was built in the 19th century. Recently, it has undergone a renovation which added a sunny Great Room and large deck with views of a pastoral valley rimmed with mountains.
This rambling farmhouse offers many private spaces including large dining, living, and family areas, all in an informal country atmosphere. Enjoy breakfast in the Great Room as you watch the sun come up over the trees; and a candlelight dinner on the deck affords a breath-taking view of the sunset. While the house is located just off a paved road, the setting is very private. You can set your watch by the twice daily rush hour - as five cars pass the driveway. A variety of sleeping arrangements (king, queen, full and bunk beds) are available, including a first floor bedroom. The property features towering sugar maple and oak trees.
You will have an enjoyable and relaxing vacation in this lovely farmhouse! The perfect get-away for a weekend, a week or a month.
Sunrise also features a Resource Book with listings of restaurants that range from family style cooking to the wonderfully decadent. There are also brochures, descriptions and maps for points-of-interest. Sunrise Farmhouse is the perfect homebase from which to explore the region which offers many recreational, cultural, historical and other adventures. Just down the road, you can take a horseback trail ride. Within minutes you can visit George Washington National Forest, Douthat State Park, Warm Springs Mineral Baths, the luxurious amenities of The Homestead (a world-renowned resort), the Jackson River with excellent fly fishing or Lake Moomaw. In about an hour, you can visit historic Lexington or Staunton, home to the Equestrian Center, the Blackfriar's Playhouse (Shakespeare), Museum of Frontier Culture, Woodrow Wilson's Birthplace and the Virginia Artisans' Center.
Visit the Dayton Farmers' Market operated by many Mennonite families who still travel the back roads in horse-drawn buggies. The cultural and historical offerings of Charlottesville are just over the mountain, with the University of Virginia, Monticello, Ash Lawn, and much more. Many natural wonders and adventures exist in the adjacent counties in West Virginia, including historic and artful Lewisburg, The Greenbrier, Green Bank Observatory, Cranberry Glades and Cass Steam Railroad.
We strive to make this place feel like home - a place where you can relax and enjoy yourself. There is nothing too fancy or precious - just very comfortable. Come to Sunrise Farm ... step back in time ... feel the stress drain away ... have an adventure... a vacation to remember.

Four girls traveled from DC are to participate in the 3rd Annual Bath County Triathlon! We loved the charming accommodations, but sure wish there was air conditioning!) and the views are spectacular! We had a fabulous time - had a great race! And spent a refreshing afternoon/evening at the Jefferson Pools, Sam Sneads' Tavern and here at Sunrise Farm. Thank you and we'll see you next year!

After the tranquility and comfort of this house and area, our highlight was Hidden Valley. A beautiful place, with a wonderful, easy, flat riverside hiking trail. Just right for our mood and physical condition. A very restful weekend!

Relaxing and much needed get away for our two families. Great views and stargazing. The girls got very adept with the cacuum cleaner. We all decided the farm should be remanded "Ladybug Farm." We cooked great meals and had some wonderful quality time with our teenage daughters!! Watched movies payed board games and walked Cleveland, our spaniel, who loved being a country dog for the weekend. Headed up to the Highland Maple Festival on Saturday where we enjoyed the town architecture and mouth-watering maple doughnuts. Today, off to the warm springs, then home to Charlottesville. Would LOVE to know the history of this house and farm!! When it was built, by whom and what it looked like back then.

Thanks for sharing your wonderful farmhouse. We had a restful stay. Get in after dark the first night, but the proch ligh was on, so no problem. Friday went o Jefferson Pools, only 3 women in the pool, so very peaceful. They don't allow loud talking/laughling, which we liked. It was raining hard all day - drove to monterey for lunch. Beautiful drive. Saturday - back roads to Staunton and ate at Train Station - good food and atmosphere. Sun - Lexington - very historic, National Bridge and Peaks of Otter, all good. Monday, back to Monterey in the sunshien and beautiful fall foliage - 75 and no clouds! Drove to the Poor Farm off the road to Monterey. Never seen one before. Hate to leave today. We brought bird seen and have seen over a dozen birds here including the rare Prothontary Warbler. Saw wild turkeys and deer on the highway.. We'll be back hopefully.

This house is so restful and "homey" in spite of the fact that e had our three sons "under three" in tow. They lovd it sooo much, they didn't want to go to sleep at night, but we did want to go to slee at night wo we promised them all ofthe wonderful toys they could enjoy in the morning and that seemed to do it for them. All we really wanted to do here was gaze at the "only in picture books" view , walk the groungs and lounge in the comforts of such a warm and convenient environment. We couldn't have asked for a better site to suit our crew. Thanks for taking our last minute reservation with such grace and calm, as I was in much need of a safe and fun get away for our children. You ill be hearing form me again, Justine. All the best for now!

Congratulations to Justine and Jonathan Rose for offering such a wonderful home place in the country. "Sunrise" has a special meaning to us, because it was once in our family. The restoration work that has been done is perfect in every way. It brings back so many wonderful memories when I visited here as a small boy with my parents and Aunt and Uncle. I would like to take the time to comment the Roses for preserving this old homeplace and wonderful memories that are preserved with it. May "Sunrise" last for many ear to come so that perhaps my children and grandchildren can enjoy the old Gardner farm. We would also like to thank our wonderful cousins, Bernie and Stewart Agreen for spending these few days here wit us. They have made our vacation so much more meaningful. God bless them both. PS - The flower planter that belonged to Aunt Virginia is back home. It's on the side porch. Hope you will like it.

We had a wonderful restful vacation (two weeks). It is a great place to get away with the family - we really enjoyed the well equipped kitchen and had many great meals on the deck. What a beautiful view!

What a lovely home and grounds (though the grass really needed to be mowed). The kitchen is so well-stocked and all of the beds were very comfortable. The family had a nice weekend together and we're already planning a trip together for next summer. This year we went fishing at Douthat and Lake Moomaw while the women looked around the Homestead and relaxed at Jefferson Pools. We ate at the Varsity Grill and Country Cafe - both very good!
