**BE SURE TO FOLLOW LINK BELOW FOR VIDEO TOUR OF SHERWOOD COTTAGE**
Sherwood Cottage is a beautiful, authentic, log cabin rental located 7 miles off the Blue Ridge Parkway between Boone NC and Blowing Rock NC. Imagine relaxing in the overstuffed wicker chairs on the screened-in porch and looking onto a commanding 180-degree view with both short and long-range vistas that are visible from almost every room in the house. After a rain, this is one place you can see why it is called the Smoky Mountains.
A south facing house, Sherwood has stunning sunrises and sunsets but also offers a night-time view that is without parallel. The night sky, without light pollution, is magnificent and the hot tub on the outside deck is just right for laying back and viewing it. When the moon is full there is a perfect view all of the night. It is one of the most romantic and peaceful scenes around.
Comfort and casual elegance would describe the décor of this house with goose down comforters and hand-made quilts, custom draperies, and oversize chairs to cuddle up with a good book. The house has 2 bedrooms and 1 bath, with a large, combination living room with sleeper sofa, and kitchen. In the winter, the gas fire offers a cozy ambiance that reflects off the all pine wood interior. Both bedrooms are cozy and comfortable: the master bedroom includes a new country pine queen-size bed complemented by an antique dresser while the second bedroom features antique twin beds in a very simple and uncluttered ambiance. Period lighting imported from England adds to the uniqueness of the home. We also have an extensive video library there for watching a good movie.
In the summer there is a beautiful flower garden to stroll through and trails close by with water-falls and even some good caves if you can climb. Basically, this house is unique in that it offers an experience that will not soon be forgotten and cannot be obtained in too many places anymore. It is for relaxing and communing with nature and finding your own secret hiding place just as you had when you were a kid.
LOCAL INFORMATION:
The cottage is 2 miles from a small community called Buffalo Cove where an authentic and must-see country store is located- Todd’s Country Store. Not only are there many artifacts usually found only in stores around the 1950’s, but the entire atmosphere is one where time has stopped. On Saturday afternoons, there usually is a music hoe-down where musicians from all around the area gather to play their instruments and sing. It is an incredible experience!
Also close by is Leatherwood Stables which offers a restaurant for breakfast, lunch and dinner, horseback riding on miles of trails, and even boarding your own horse if you wish. The Elk River is also about 2 miles away for miles of tubing and meandering down the river on hot summer days. Trout fishing in the river is also a fun thing and once you get down in the valley, there are miles and miles of flat-grade paved roads for biking.
Sherwood Cottage is about 30 minutes from Lenoir and Hickory, the home of all the furniture manufacturers in NC. There is much to do there for adults and children alike. The other direction takes you to the Blue Ridge Parkway 7 miles away. A 30 minute drive in that direction will take you to Blowing Rock and a little further on is Boone.
Log cabin with intimate views of 30,000 acres of the Uwharrie Forest and Mountain Preserve. Wildlife galore with some of the most amazing birds to be seen in NC. The Hot Tub outside has an incredible view of the Milky Way with no light polution from anywhere. Total peace and quiet from this retreat. 2 Bedrooms, one bath, fireplace, fenced yard- the true mountain retreat!

The house is beautifu! We needed a place with peace and quiet and we got it. We really enjoyed our stay; sitting by the fireplace, sitting in the hot tub and just relaxing. We will be back hopefully, when we need time away from everything.

We had a great mountain getaway at Sherwood Cottage. We enjoyed the seclusion of the cabin, the view and gazing at stars from the hot tub at night. We have never seen do many stars! Our favortie activities during the week were spelunking (with River and Earth adventures) and trout fishing at Grandfather Trout Farm. We would definately come back for a relaxing getaway.

Over 40 years ago my wife and I met at the Sherwood Terrace Apartments in Nashville. 40 years later here we are at Sherwood Cottage. This place feels more like home than home. Loved the humming birds & the awesome sound system & of course the hot tub.

Thank you for such a nice mountain experience! The cabin is really nice (we had 4 people) with all the comforts of home & more. We drove into Blowing Rock a couple times (once for dinner at the Best Cellar, excellent!!), hiked off the Blue Ridge Parkway and went canoeing in Boomer. Enjoyed cooking our meals here too & taking picnics. Many thanks again.
