Custom Log Home, Superb Mountain Views, Flanks of 14ers
- Minimum stay:2 nights
- Internet:No
- Pets allowed:Yes
- Wheel chair accessible:No
Beautiful log home with excellent mountain views of mountains to the East, (Mt. Silverheels), and North, (Northstar Mountain, Mt. Quandary, and Hoosier Ridge). The south-facing covered porch and sunroom are great for breakfast, happy hour, and wildlife viewing. A bedroom on the upper floor has a queen bed, the main level has a comfortable sofa pull-out bed in the living room, the bedroom on the main floor has a double bed. There's also a futon in a bedroom on the lower floor.
We have satellite TV, but decent internet is not available at present, due to the mountainous area. Cell phone service is available, but the signal is fairly weak with some carriers. (Service is best in the sunroom.)
We're located 15 miles south of Breckenridge and 3 miles north of Alma on the flanks of Mt. Lincoln and Mt. Bross. The trails to access those mountains are very close. In the valley below is the middle fork of the south platte river, plus Montgomery Reservoir and Alma pond, all of which include excellent trout fishing. South Park has been designated the trout fishing capital of Colorado.
The 'quaint' mining town of Alma, 3 miles to the south, is the highest town in the U.S.. Many trails for hiking, mountain biking, four wheeling, and cross country skiing are very close. The town of Fairplay, 5 miles south of Alma, has South Park City, which is a surprisingly good, (actually excellent), 1870s era mining town restoration/museum. Breckenridge, with its world class skiing, biking, restaurants, golf, music, rec center, and shopping is 15 miles to the north. An hour south is Buena Vista, with its great white water rafting, hot springs, and more beautiful biking, hiking, skiing, and four wheeling trails.
A four wheel drive vehicle (or chains) is recommended for winter access. Linens, a well-stocked kitchen, and firewood is provided.

Our stay was great at this cabin. It's a beautiful cabin with a lot of privacy and great views. The cabin was very cozy despite the below zero temps we experienced while there. Plenty of amenities to make the stay feel like home. Good location too, not far from Hwy 9, close to Breckenridge and Fairplay. We hope to stay again.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, sightseeing.

Ed's home is extremely comfortable and well maintained. We enjoyed the homely feel, well stocked book shelves, and superb kitchen. I was able to cook a full Christmas dinner with the equipment they had on hand. Other highlights were enjoying the snowy views from every room in the house, 25 min drive to Breck, and seeing two moose a few hundred yards away. Overall this was the perfect Christmas vacation spot.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

This house was in the perfect location for the activities we planned - hiking, biking, and relaxing. It was close to multiple 14ers, with a trail to the Lincoln group practically out the back door! It was a great house with wonderful views, and we were happy to be able to bring our dog. Ed provided helpful instructions and alot of information on the area. We would stay here again.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, sightseeing.

My stay Labor Day weekend

My family and a couple of friends enjoyed our weekend stay on Labor day weekend away from the crowds. It is isolated and remote enough that you do not see many people but can drive down the hill to a little town called Alma if you want to play some pool . The house sits almost to treeline with great views. Its located about 17 miles from Breckenridge. The house is roomy and has everything you would need with beautiful wood paneling inside and out. The one thing I would add to the place is it would be nice to have a fire pit outside to sit around a fire on those "cool" mountain nights.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, sightseeing.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 1997
Why the Owner Chose Alma:
The owner built this home in 1997 after moving here from North Carolina. The original draw was the skiing, then I fell in love with the summers, the high mountain views, exploring the high mountain tundra just a little way up the road, and all the fantastic local trails.
