Playa Ocotal house description
Villa Las Olas (Villa 4) is one of four beachfront villas in Bahia Pez Vela, a resort community of 40 privately owned villas on a secluded ebony beach. A private, jetted pool, Italian stone and wood patio, and 'next to the forest' location (end villa) distinguishes Villa Las Olas for its luxury and its privacy.
The villa is fully air-conditioned (mini-splits in each of the bedroom for individual control), and each room has screens and an overhead fan to enjoy the pleasant ocean breezes and sounds of this tropical paradise.
The master bedroom has King bed, a balcony with rocking chairs that overlooks the ocean, full closet, cable television and an attached private full bath. The second bedroom is also ocean front, and has two full beds, cable television, a dresser and full closet. It is a large and airy room. The third bedroom has two twin beds, a dresser, space for the infant 'Pack and Play' bed and changing table, cable television, and a garden view. All beds are made up with mattress pads, fresh linens, and light duvets or coverlets. Pillows are new, fluffy, and ample in number.
The main level has a very open lay-out with French doors to the pool and beach from both the living room and the dining room. The living room includes a comfortable sleeper sofa, two matching chairs, and cable television. The dining room seats six. The fully-equipped kitchen is spacious, and includes a breakfast 'bar' that seats four, refrigerator with ice maker, cooking range and oven, dishwasher and microwave. Directly off the kitchen is a utility room with a full washer and dryer, an iron and an ironing pad, and a safe for your valuables.
In addition to the amenities noted above, the villa is furnished with towels, beach towels, kitchen and dinner ware (including sharp, new knives!), a Weber grill, pool side furniture, hair dryers (2), games, puzzles, books, Costa Rica guides and maps, soap, dishwashing detergent, blender, toaster, coffee grinder and maker and rice maker.
The resort's onsite restaurant, Picante, provides bar, lunch and dinner service next to the three pool complex beachside. It's a romantic spot for dinner, fun place to meet other residents, and serves excellent North American and Costa Rican dishes at reasonable prices. Staff will also deliver food to your villa should you choose to dine in.
The resort concierge is available to answer all of your questions and to arrange sight-seeing and adventure tours that may interest you. Security is on-site 24/7. Maid service is available through the concierge.
While tranquil Bahia Pez Vela seems an ocean away from the busy world, it's a short drive to the village of Coco, a funky beach town that hosts fabulous grocery stores, very good restaurants, gift shops, and lively nightlife.

- Located on the grounds of the former fishing camp of Mark Tupper of Tupperware fame, this secluded and very secure resort houses 40 privately owned villas. The very private ebony beach provides world class snorkeling, calm waters for swimming, and fascinating tide pools that are full of sea life. Resort grounds are immaculate and feature a large grassy lawn between the villa and the beach, beautifully maintained blooming shrubs and flowers, and mature trees. The wildlife is abundant -- howler monkeys frequently munch the leaves from the trees in front of the villa, green parakeets chatter as they dart from one tree to another, blue green mot mots show off frequently, and the occasional blue jay, iguana and gecko can be spotted. If you can tear yourself away from the beach and your private pool, the nearby town of Coco is lively, fun and safe. Golf at Papagayo Golf in Sardinal, or go a bit further to Pinillas. Spend a half day deep sea fishing and bring yellow fin tuna, grouper and snapper home to the chef at the resort's on-site restaurant Picante for special treatment. Great diving is can be arranged in Coco, as can sail boat adventures. Venture inland to Volcan Arenal or Rincon de la Vieja and take in ziplines, volcanic mud baths and hot springs, white water rafting and horseback rides in the high country. Drive the 'Monkey Trail' to beaches to the south, including Ostional for early morning turtle hatching, Tamarindo for its surf, and Conchal for a sunset at the beach restaurant in Brasilito. All this within 25 minutes of the airport! ...moreless

Best family vacation ever
Best family vacation ever
We loved the serenity infinity pool of villa #4, making for an indescribably relaxing vacation for husband, wife, and four kids aged 4-15. Everything was clean and comfortable, and the villa was well-stocked with beach and bath towels, kitchen supplies, even a nice, little collection of DVD movies for grown-ups as well as kids. We loved how close we were to the beach and snorkeling and to Picante, an awesome open-air restaurant with great service and delicious food, overlooking the villa's three-level pool which in turn overlooked the beautifuly Pez Vela Bay. My husband and I also took a walk on the coastline to the next beach, climbing rocks and passing little streams as the tide came in and out (be careful mossy surfaces). We saw great birds and howler monkeys and also enjoyed a massage or two on the beach. Thanks so much also to owner LaRaye who was a great communicator and always very responsive to questions, etc. It was our best family vacation ever. The people in reception were also very professional and friendly. Loved it.

Wonderful Family Place
Wonderful Family Place
After doing service projects in the rain forest, we spent an extra week with our family at this property. Our grandchildren, aged 7 and 11 had the time of their lives in the pools and ocean. We did a number of day trips but it was so lovely at our beach and the property itself that we skipped going to other beaches. I taught the boys how to snorkel in the pool and then in the ocean where they saw lots of fish. We had the best snorkeling around the rocks at the sides of our beach so the boat snorkeling trip we took later was unnecessary. The week we spent at the property was a real treat and I've recommended this place to everyone we know.

Our Stay in Bahia Pez Vela
Our Stay in Bahia Pez Vela
We were a group of 7 and stayed two wks. Good location, easy access to the beach even if we enjoyed to pool most of the time. The Villa was just perfect for us, we all had enough space. We really like Playa Del Coco, warm people, and all the services available. We are now even more convience to find our own place in Costa Rica. Thank you LaRaye. Denis

Owner response: Thank you for taking the time to write this review, Denis. We are pleased that you enjoyed our home, and even more pleased that you enjoyed Costa Rica so much that you may invest in a home yourself! It's a magical place! Kind regards, LaRaye
Just spent Christmas here with the family. I can honestly say there is no where else I would stay if we make it back. Dealing with LaRaye was great, the service and attention from the property managers and concierge was incredible. The beachfront location combined with the private pool can't be beat. Easy drive from the airport, easy drive to Coco. The food and service at Picante was so good it was tough to go anywhere else. If relaxing is your primary objective, stay here! We had teenage girls and the fishing, zipline, shopping and other beach excursions kept them busy and left plenty of room for our relaxing time. There is nothing better than having coffee in the morning and watching the monkeys overhead! All of LaRaye's suggestions were spot on and very helpful.

Wow! We stayed at this villa in the past when it was owned by someone else. We booked again for the location and the private pool -- it's a very romantic setting for our child's wedding. We were absolutely delighted with the upgrades made to the villa. From the bedrooms (fresh, colorful linens, new window coverings, fluffy and abundant towels) to the kitchen (new silverware, new small appliances, new linens, new pots and pans ... the list goes on), to the new DVD player and videos, to the new in-house internet access and WiFi, to the Bose iPad system, to the new Weber grill ... These owners want to make their guests welcomed and comfortable! And, as usual, the service at Bahia Pez Vela was superb. We didn't book through VRBO, but worked directly through reservations as we made plans for the wedding. They covered every detail, and the wedding was everything we hoped it would be. (We checked the photos on the VRBO site -- they are absolutely accurate!)

Owner response: Thank you for your encouraging feedback. We've tried very hard to make Villa 4 comfortable and welcoming for our guests. It was good of you to take the time to let us know that we are on the right track!
Fabulous location, beautiful home, fantastic pool!
Fabulous location, beautiful home, fantastic pool!
Location is everything, and this beachfront home was perfect. The pool quite simply has to be the most elegant we've ever seen -- and so private. Snorkeling directly in front of the home is fabulous. We say a spotted Pacific ray, schools of needlefish, blue tangs, puffer fish and yellow tangs. The home is spacious, beds are comfortable, linens are new, videos and books span a range of ages and tastes, and the kitchen is well equipped. The on site restaurant had surprisingly good food, with some traditional Costa Rica dishes and some really ambitious dishes like chicken with jalapeno sauce that were extremely well executed. Mainly, we loved the peace of this place -- falling asleep to the sound of waves, rising early and walking the very private beach, gazing over the ocean from the pool. Strolling around the beautifully manicured gardens. We'll be back!

About the owner: We're a Minnesota family of five that spent the ten spring breaks at Bahia Pez Vela -- and finally bought!
Why the Owner Chose Playa Ocotal:
Bahia Pez Vela is the most beautiful, private, and conveniently located resort development on the Nicoya Peninsula, in our opinion. It is unique for its beautiful grounds, spacious villas, wonderful on-site restaurant, great snorkeling, and close proximity to the airport! Villa Las Olas is, in our opinion, the best villa in the development. The pool area is magnificent. The beach is 100 feet from your door. The villa is very private and visited frequently by howler monkeys and beautiful tropical birds!
The Unique Benefits at this House:
We fell in love with our home for its privacy, fabulous pool, closeness to the clean and protected private beach, generously helpful staff -- and the sound of the waves, the gentle breezes, the warm surf, and the spectacular flowers!
