Large open area in center of house to gather - spacious kitchen, dining area, and living room all connected and open. A great house for families and friends to connect! The family that owns this house has been visiting Edisto for over 30 years, so there are many fond memories and love poured into this property! We welcome renters who are looking forward to building some great memories of time with family and friends in this lovely setting. It is newly listed in 2012 - you can be one of our first guests!

Just back from a refreshing long weekend at Chaika house. Only 1/4 mile easy walk to the beach, yet the house is very private. Was nice to walk one block to an excellent local neighborhood restaurant (Whaleys). I recommend Chaika house for all around good times and good value.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

We had a great stay at your house. We enjoyed the "out of the way" peacefulness of this location. We had everything we needed for cooking pizzas, fish, and shrimp! We fished a lot and took some fabulous sunrise & sunset photos and just in general enjoyed some R&R. Thanks for sharing your house!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

October is a very good month to visit this area and would assume November would be a close second. Larger than two people need but was reasonable enough to do anyway. Liked being able to park under the house. Interesting to see deer on the property in the mornings. Close walk to the beach and only a couple of blocks from two places to eat. Sunsets on the sound side are worth the short drive. The grocery store there is better stocked than we expected. Plenty of TV's for a rainy day. The water is filtered and has a large open kitchen, dining and sitting area. The sunroom is great for relaxing. A shower under the house is a plus when coming in from the beach. Overall the size would be great for a large family vacation and has plenty of gathering places. Liked the layout with bedrooms along the sides leaving the middle open. Close to Charleston if you like short day trips. Ideal for a peaceful getaway if you just need to recharge your batteries.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners.
Owner response: Glad you enjoyed the stay - off season is a great time to have a vacation and have the beach mostly to yourself for beach combing. Thanks for being there!

Our family met at Chaika to enjoy a week together before school started. The house was easy to find and perfect for us - nicely secluded with trees and just a short walk to the beach. The house had everything we needed and was very clean and comfortable. The open floor plan in the kitchen/dining/living area really makes it easy for everybody to be together while getting meals prepared and enjoyed together. We prepared all of our meals at Chaika utilizing the grill several times and also the great fresh seafood from Edisto Seafood on Dockside Dr. The enclosed porch is a great place to enjoy coffee in the mornings. We loved our week here and hope to visit again - I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking to stay on Edisto. Some of our guys played golf, others fished, lots of people out running and cycling by themselves or with kids - a great family island! We really enjoyed the drive and beach at Botany Bay nearby, as well. Thanks for sharing your awesome house with us!!Owner response: Glad you enjoyed it! Edisto is certainly a magical place!

Owner info
Year Purchased: 1996
About the owner: Our family has been vacationing at Edisto for nearly 30 years. When moving to Asia in 1996 to serve as missionaries, we sold our home in Kentucky and bought this house on Edisto where my parents had retired. Upon returning to the USA, we decided to keep the home so we, our family, and others could continue to enjoy Edisto Beach. We now live in the Atlanta area where we both work in the home office of our mission agency. We travel a lot with our work - the above photo was taken in Brazil. We love oceans, wherever we travel! We have four young adult children, one of whom is married. They all have many fond memories of times at Edisto. We named the house Chaika to connect our love of the beach with the local language (Russian) that we spoke while living overseas. Chaika means Seagull, and was also the name of a hotel in the city where we lived.
Why the Owner Chose Edisto Beach:
We like the quietness and family, noncommercial atmosphere of Edisto Beach. The house Chaika complements that by being very comfortable, relatively secluded yet convenient to the beach, laid out perfectly for being together to enjoy a meal, a game of cards, a movie, or evening conversation.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The live oak in the front yard is beautiful. You can enjoy seeing it out the front windows while drinking morning coffee on the glassed-in porch or sit on the wood swing attached to the tree. This house invites relaxation and community.
