The property is perfectly located down the road from the historic Galway City, just far enough to have the tranquility and quiet that this house offers, yet the convenience of being close to the finest restaurants, live music events and dozens of delightful Irish pubs, where music and lively conversation is at its best.
This beautiful house is perfectly located for all that the West of Ireland has to offer. The day trips to picturesque Connemara, with its rugged scenery of hills and lakes, perfect for off road cycling and hill walking. The Burren , The Cliffs of Moher and the pretty coastal villages like Kinvara and Roundstone are within an hours drive. The amazing Aran Islands, with the spectacular cliffs and the ancient Dun Aengus fort are within a hour and a half from the house.
Galway, with its famous horse racing events, the arts and literary festivals is hugely popular with both native Irish people and visitors to Ireland alike. The wonderful seaside promenade, the longest in Europe, where every day joggers and walkers alike are keeping fit, is located just down the road from the house. The panoramic sea views enjoyed while exercising on the promenade lifts the spirits by its sheer beauty.
Lots of superb golf courses have regular visitors from all over the world, are within easy reach of the house. Irish golfers take their game seriously from a young age the Irish are on these courses all year round. The closest to the house is the lovely 18 hole links course of Salthill, just one mile away.
There is plenty of game and coarse fishing, as you would expect in Ireland with its plentiful rivers and lakes. Lough Corrib, which opens into the sea via the river Corrib is one mile from the house. Anglers from all over the world have enjoyed the famous salmon and trout fishing, in addition to coarse fishing on those waters.
Nile Lodge has the most amazing location when it comes to enjoying all that Ireland has to offer, and Galway City itself is known to be the music Capital of Ireland. Musicians love to live here and play in groups in the many sessions around the City. The standard of the music is amazing, the only problem is trying to get to see as many as possible!
Nile Lodge is one of the most prestigious private houses in the City of Galway and has a wonderful, rich history, which is clearly visible in the house, showing details from Nelsons times through the past 200 years. This beautiful house, built to the design suggestive of the bridge of a ship, originally had a sea view, stands on over an acre of private, mature, beautifully landscaped gardens which provide a wonderful green oasis within minutes of the center of Galway. There is a high-walled orchard to the rear of the property which is enjoyable for children and adults alike to enjoy space and privacy.
For convenience just across the road from the property is a small supermarket which has late opening. Also located nearby is the luxury grocery store Morton's of Galway as well as a larger supermarkets.

About the owner: Nile Lodge has been part of the MacDermott family for over half a century. With a great interest of Irish history and culture I have worked for many years to preserve this beautiful house and grounds. Further research is currently being undertaken on the Captain who lived here two hundred years ago and the results to date are very exciting.
