- Bend is every outdoor enthusiast’s day dream. A place where one can get involved in all kinds of outdoor sports including biking, hiking, trail running, rock climbing, mountain climbing, white water rafting, swimming, paddle boarding, kayaking, canoeing, skiing, snowboarding, cross country skiing and much more. There is plenty of shopping to enjoy in Bend’s Old Mill District which is less than 5 minutes from the house and there are lots of boutiques in downtown Bend. In the summer months, there is never a shortage of things to do. With access to the Cascade Lakes only 20 minutes away, there is plenty of fresh clean water to attract all those hoping to get away from the summer heat. Elk Lake and Cultus Lake are a couple of local favorites which offer full service. Cultus lake may very well be one of the clearest lakes you have ever visited with clarity to 30+ feet! In the winter months enjoy Mt. Bachelor for tubing, skiing, snowboarding, and cross country skiing or skijoring. Mt. Bachelor is generally open for 6 months a year - from Thanksgiving to Memorial Day! ...moreless

House was in great condition and everything in working order. Could use some hairdryers though. There is a house cat that stays pretty much outside but you need to be careful not to leave a door open if you have someone in your group allergic to cats. Very easy to get to and grocery store VERY close. Everything was in working order. Overall a GREAT experience and will definitely return to this property.

Be forewarned if you rent here that owners have an adopted cat living here, complete with a cat door and access to the house; this was not disclosed to my group before we rented the house, the owner claims that "pet friendly" should have been a tip off. Never ran into this before. Being badly allergic, this was a big issue for me. Even with the cat door locked we could not leave doors or windows open and had to chase the cat out numerous times, including out of my vehicle. Would have been a huge issue had I brought our dogs which aren't cat lovers. And the cat sat outside mewing at a bedroom window for several hours one night. The owner did have the house cleaned at our request after we found out the situation though it only relieved some of my allergy issues. Cat dander is hard to remove from all the drapes/rugs/Etc. They also said they would have the cat removed had we requested it, though they didn't make this offer until after we had left the property. Some other things are lacking...small number and small sized pots and pans for a 4 bedroom place and we were told to buy our own toilet paper. Some towels were stained and some of the pillows smelled less than fresh. The downdraft vent on the electric cooktop turned out to vent into the cabinet and not outside (looked like the vent pipe had been removed) which could have gotten ugly. On the positive side it's roomy and not too expensive, there's a big deck with a good propane (provided) BBQ and a large laundry/storage area. Deer came to visit. Quiet street. Plenty of dishes and a decent spice rack for cooking. It's a short bike ride to the Old Mill district and pretty close to Old Bend. Want a cheapish big house with a cat, you could do worse. If you don't want to spend your vacation dealing with someone's cat, you could do better.

Owner response: We are new to VRBO and expected that there would be a bit of a learning curve. Thanks for all the feedback, it helped us target some areas to improve. For example, it looks like someone's child took a marker to a towel or two. Luckily we provided over 20 towels, so I am sure you didn't have to use a towel that my cleaning lady didn't catch was stained. There is a cat here occasionally and he accesses his food and water in the garage which is not included in the rental. This house is pet friendly and might not be a good choice for those with allergies as dander can linger despite weekly cleaning. As I said before, I wish you had taken me up on the offer to make your stay more comfortable. The situation could definitely have been rectified if I had known the additional cleaning didn't solve the problem.
Bend is such a fun place and this home allows you to be part of all of it while being in the comforts of well equipped home. We accessed the river trail (after a little negotiation through the neighborhood) and had a good family hike into town and used this same route bike rides too. The kids played kickball with the neighbors in the yard (lots of space) while we enjoyed beverages outside on the awesome deck/outdoor space. The playground at the school a couple of blocks away was a big plus. A short drive to Mt. Bachelor makes "coming home" after a great day skiing nicer than any hotel. We'd stay there again for sure!
