Sunrise Cottage is located on the western shore of Puget Sound, with magnificent views of Seattle, the Sound, Mt. Rainier and the Cascades. Located on high bank waterfront, the views are unobstructed. You can watch the sunrise over the Cascades and the eastern shore of Puget Sound. Even on the 'occasional' grey day, there is something to see, with ships, boats, ferries, and naval vessels passing by. If the weather is rainy, you can see the squalls as they blow across the Sound. And, on the clear evening with the full moon rising, casting its glow across the still waters of Puget Sound, you become mesmerized and cannot take your eyes from the scene.

There is a sign by the front door which reads, 'If you are lucky enough to have a home on the water, you are lucky enough.' The home features 4 bedrooms and two baths, with comfortable accommodations for 8 in its 2,700 SQFT. The master suite occupies the entire upper level and features a king bed, floor to ceiling windows, soaking tub and separate shower. There are two bedrooms with queen beds, and one with a trundle-twin-double. There is a bunk room that sleeps up to 6 children, and offers a great space for them to get away from the adults. The gourmet kitchen features high-end appliances, granite countertops and takes full advantage of the view. The living room offers comfortable seating, HDTV, a fireplace, and floor to ceiling windows.

The secluded front deck is excellent for taking the afternoon sun, and the large back decks offer space for entertaining or enjoying morning beverages watching the eagles, osprey and geese fly by at your eye level. It also has a large gas grill for BBQs.

Close enough by ferry or highway to Seattle, Tacoma, Bellevue and surrounding areas so as to take full advantage of all they offer, yet far enough away to relax in the quiet and peacefulness of small town life. Manchester is an unincorporated village of about 750 people with a storied history, and is about 5 miles from Port Orchard. The cottage is within walking distance of Manchester with its pub, restaurant, boat launch, library, small grocery and public beach. It is a short drive to the beautiful Manchester State Park with its excellent walking trails among the woods and along the shoreline. It is close to shopping in Port Orchard, and is a ten minute drive to the ferry to Seattle.

Sunrise Cottage has hosted many a July 4th party, allowing guests to enjoy the panorama of fireworks displays, public and private, from Manchester to Bainbridge Island to Seattle to Des Moines to Vashon and to Yukon Harbor.

Before Christmas, the lighted boat parade passes directly off the beach. New Years Eve is celebrated watching the fireworks display from the Space Needle, seated indoors with a warm fire in the Living Room fireplace.

Come visit us at Sunrise Cottage and see for yourself the special, spectacular scenery and amazing sunrises. Sunrise Cottage is a unique blend of sensory inputs, conveniently located, yet away from the hustle and bustle. Come and find out for yourself the gem that is Sunrise Cottage.

We rented this home for a wonderful reunion of high school girlfriends. The house had plenty of space for each of us to have our own sleeping space and stunning views out over the water from inside the home and from the patio. We happen to be very lucky and had the most fantastic Northwest weather you could ever ask for and had spent most our time out on the patio with drinks in hand. They provided free WIFI and a small amount of cable channels. The location was great being in Port Orchard area so we could go out for a meal if you did not want to cook for yourself. We did cook most meals in and that was the one thing that was a little more challenging. The kitchen is pretty small and hard to move around in for more then one person trying to prepare the meal. Other then that the place was great and I would stay again without question.

Sunrise cottage was as described. The views were spectacular, the house was welcoming, and had everything you could want. Dave and Karen were here to welcome with a smile, a wonderful bottle of wine and a quick tour of the house. They were available to answer any of our questions , but we found that everything was in great working order and with the help of a book they had prepared we didn't have many questions that we needed answered. The gardens - what can you say about them other than they were a wonderful treat. Almost every morning upon rising we would eagerly explore them to see what had bloomed while we were asleep, and almost every day they provided new flowers in bloom. We love Manchester and the cottage has a great view of the Seattle skyline and Mount Rainier. For a family place to eat you can't beat the Manchester Inn just down the street. (if you go in for breakfast say hi to Sis who will fix you a meal that will blow your socks off - she also owns the place.) We always find plenty to do in this area and love to explore the Olympic peninsula with all it has to offer. Thanks again to Dave and Karen and we look forward to seeing you and the cottage next year.

Views were incredible. I could have spent my entire two weeks on the l.room sofa just looking!! The property was clean and well-maintained. There was a very detailed "instruction" book about the house and area that was very helpful. The owners couldn't have been nicer. We were in very elegant but comfortable surroundings. We recommend the Bremerton waterfront, the Naval Museum at Keyport, touring Vashon Island and of course, taking the ferry to downtown Seattle.

The listing and previous reviews were extremely accurate. Karen & Dave could not have been more responsive or hospitable. We loved the welcome wine. The kitchen was a joy for this avid cook - such a pleasure to look out on the water, ferries, and Emerald City glittering in the distance while you prepare a meal - loved the 6 ring gas stove top. We grilled both nights - the first night was clear and we ate overlooking the view - the second nite was chillier so we ate in but didn’t miss a thing - the view is great from the dining room too! We stopped at the Bloedel reserve on our way to the house- went to the LeMay Car Museum in Tacoma for the Concours d'Elegance one day and another day the Puyallup Fair. Sunrise Cottage was a great location to tour from and show our friends from the South just some of the beauty of the Northwest. Our friends loved the master bedroom and once again THE VIEW! We would definitely stay again and bring friends. Thank you so much Dave and Karen. 'Borrowing' your lovely home made it easy for us to look like the best hosts ever! M & J

My husband and I just came home from a two week stay at Sunrise Cottage and we were very pleased with our choice for a vacation rental. The photos are accurate and the house was exactly as presented online. We thoroughly enjoyed sitting out on the patio, which is surrounded by very nice landscaping, potted plants and a small garden pond with the sound of running water from a small waterfall. The sweeping vista is amazing. Across Puget Sound, we watched Mt. Rainier on the right, Blake Island in front, the Seattle skyline off to the distant left and many large ships docking and anchoring on "our side" of the Sound. It is a very relaxing setting and had surprising privacy from neighbors. ( There are houses close on each side, but the two immediately on each side did not seem to have occupants.) The owners obviously have taken care with their property and its furnishings. They were present to greet us, made themselves available if needed, came to move the trash cans for curbside pickup and returned to move the cans back once a week, yet we never saw them. The house is fully furnished, nothing was lacking for our comfort. They also leave a very informative and helpful notebook of information and contact numbers. We enjoyed the location because it created a real respite for us after exploring the Olympic Peninsula and going over to visit Seattle. It's a great place to decompress! Water views from nearly all the rooms, especially from the master bedroom upstairs. It is named Sunrise Cottage for a reason, but the moon over the water gives equal beauty! We were there for the full moon. You can walk easily to a small convenience store next to a tiny beachfront park, a bar/pub and a family restaurant ( we had breakfast there and got advice from our friendly waitress about which towns to shop for furniture for our daughter's new apartment - very helpful when you're unfamiliar with the area). Sunrise Cottage is a beautiful rental spot with plenty of room for a large family ( four bedrooms) without feeling too large for just a couple. We can certainly recommend it to anyone looking for a place to rent with an incomparable view and comfortable, beautiful accommodations.

From the moment you walk through the front door and see across the Sound to downtown Seattle (especially in the Spring and Summer when the cruise ships are parked in front of the Space Needle!) you are amazed by the view. The house is wonderfully comfortable and planned well for the view from all the main rooms. The location is peaceful but near enough to transportion into The City or travel to Gig Harbor, Bremerton, Silverdale, Poulsbo. Lots to do. I just like to sit on the patio, read and watch for Eagles! The owners are extremely helpful and have terrific recommendations.

Our stay at the Sunrise Cottage has left us with memories we will cherish for years to come. First off, let me just say, wow, the sweeping views of Puget Sound -- from Mt. Ranier on the right across to the cityscape of Seattle on the left -- were simply breathtaking. We had family gathering from across the country and this wonderful home provided plenty of room for all 12 of us (four couples with kids) without ever feeling crowed. It is much larger than it looks in the pictures. The spacious top-floor master suite, with its floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the Sound, feels more like a five-star spa than a simple bedroom. The rest of the bedrooms are also well-appointed and comfortable. The kitchen is modern and thoughtfully equipped, complete with a large walk-in pantry providing plenty of storage. The rest of the house is lovely and comfortable and the multi-level patio draws you outside to soak in even more of those sweeping views. We had a great time walking down the to the nearby village of Winchester, an easy ten minutes stroll, where there is a nice sandy beach (rare for Puget Sound), a couple of good taverns and a small general store. The owners, who live nearby, were wonderful and accomodating. They were there to greet us with a bottle wine as we arrived and answer our questions before leaving us to settle in. With a day or so of our departure, they were even thoughtful enough to mail an action figure fogotten by one of the kids. In short, we could not have asked for a nicer place to stay and our only regret is that we didn't have more time to spend there.

                  Owner info

                  Year Purchased: 1996

About the owner: Karen and Dave enjoyed living in this home from 1996 to 2012. The home and landscaping were extensively updated and modified to suit their life style. They love entertaining, and the kitchen rolled out many wonderful meals for friends and family. They take special joy in their travels near and far, having explored the northern hemisphere, and starting on the southern. They welcome you into their Sunrise Cottage, and hope that your stay brings you the wonderful memories which it has brought for them.

Why the Owner Chose Port Orchard:
It really is the view. Unobstructed. Magnificent. Intoxicating. The indoor living is comfortable and spacious, and the kitchen is designed for ease of preparation and cleanup. The quiet neighborhood is secluded from any busy street, and the front yard is fenced with an electric gate to enhance the privacy. Come for the views and enjoy all the amenities that Sunrise Cottage offers.

The Unique Benefits at this House:
There is a sign by the front door which reads, 'If you are lucky enough to have a home on the water, you are lucky enough.' There is always something to see out the windows, in every season of the year. Some people say the Pacific Northwest can be a bit damp, but even on the rainy days, there is something to see. Watching an aircraft carrier or submarine slowly making its way past your windows is awe inspiring. Watching the eagles hunting, flying by at eye level or roosting in nearby trees is a treat, but so are the Stellar Jays, the Pileated Woodpeckers and other unique birds. If you go for walks, you will probably find deer nearby. If you bring your boat, launch it at Manchester and drop your crab traps off the property and enjoy Dungeness crab, or go salmon fishing within view of the house. If you just want to sit inside, light the fireplace and sit down with a good book and your favorite beverage. Enjoy the scenery from the indoor comfort. It is close enough to the Seattle urban area that you can get there and back easily, but not so close that you are stuck in traffic and the noise. Close enough to enjoy the dining and entertainment available in larger cities, yet far enough away to avoid large city drawbacks, Sunrise Cottage is a unique blend of sensory inputs, conveniently located, yet away from the hustle and bustle. Come and find out for yourself what a gem Sunrise Cottage is.
