From the minute I sat in the front porch swing, listening to the birds, I knew this was going to be a wonderful weekend !! We were in the area for a wedding and Sarah's home was the perfect home away from home ! Family from Northern California and Southern California were able to meet here and relax. The beds are comfortable, the home is immaculately clean and the kitchen is completely equipped with everything you could ever need or want for cooking! The open floor plan downstairs and the amazing wraparound porch allowed everyone space to visit without feeling crowded or in the way ! Sarah was an incredible hostess -- meeting us at the house at our convenience and then leaving us completely alone to enjoy it. Every question received an immediate response !! The are so many wineries in the area we hope to be able to return soon - and the Saturday morning Farmers Market in Templeton provided the crowning touch to our meals with fresh cherries, blueberries, strawberries, baked goods, fabulous olives and CHOCOLATE ! Thanks again !!Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, girls getaway.

I SO want to give this house an "excellent" because my family had an incredible time here over Thanksgiving. This is everything you'd hope for in a farm house. Huge wrap around porch, beautiful wood floors, great cooks kitchen and my personal favorite, an old yellow lab to greet you every time you walked out the front door. Loved that! We have a golden retriever ourselves who joined us and he was perfectly happy being an outside dog on the big porch. So nice! The owners met us when we got there to show us the ins and outs of the house and then were off to vacation themselves. The location is superb. Better than the pictures. Honestly, the prettiest house we saw the whole time in Templeton. We took long walks every morning and walked by vineyards, horses and alpacas. We also often saw deer. Just amazing. The front lawn is big and beautiful and perfect for playing catch or fetch. The house was beautifully decorated with nice, clean bedding and linens (loved the down comforters). It is a warm, welcoming home. A couple of days we were gone until dusk and it was truly breathtaking to drive down the road and see the house on the hill all lit up waiting for us. So.....here are the few things that keep me from giving it the stamp of excellence. The house has several claw foot tubs which are so fitting for a farm house. Unfortunately, my in laws who were staying in one of the guest rooms said that taking a shower in the tub was a very unpleasant ordeal. The shower curtain kept falling down and they spent much of their shower time trying to keep the curtain up and the water in the tub. Too bad. The owner did mention that the master bath had the best shower and she was right! Next was the downstairs guest bed which was so uncomfortable that my sister in law and her husband ended up going to a hotel. We mentioned this to the owners and they admitted that they'd never slept in the bed themselves and that they were planning on addressing it. Totally understandable. Finally, the owners mentioned to us that they would be returning to the property ( there is an apartment over the barn where they would be staying) on Friday. We were not due to leave until Sunday. This somehow made us feel uncomfortable and not completely free on our vacation ( I talked to friends about this and I guess it is unusual to ever see the owners at all). in the end, it was no big deal but worth mentioning. I loved the house, the location, and the experience. What a treat!!!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thank you for your thourough review and all the wonderful comments. We are thrilled that you enjoyed your stay and sincerely appreciate your review. Being our first guests to rent out this property, these are incredibly important in helping us make the place even better for future guests. Regarding the downstairs bedroom, we were unaware it would be so uncomfortable. It is a "Select Comfort" mattress and we did discover that it had become unplugged and was possibly deflated making it uncomfortable. We have added a memory foam mattress topper and fixed the squeak that had been mentioned. If this still does not make the bed as comfortable as one would expect, we will replace the whole thing. Regarding the clawfoot bath tubs, they may not be ideal for everyone and renters considering our home will need to take these tubs into consideration. I do however, completely agree that the shower curtain hooks need to go and ones that cannot fall off be used. We had just replaced the previous ones (ugly plastic rings) with these nicer looking hooks and as I was putting them up realized they didn't seem to stay on like they should. Hopefully fixing this problem will improve their use. Finally, in regards to our staying on the property during the last part of your stay, all I can do is apologize. We pride ourselves in being very easy going property owners and the comfort of our guests is our number one priority. That said, future renters should be aware that we in fact live full time in this home and when it is rented we pack up our personal belongings, prepare the home for our guests and will possibly be staying in the apartment which is approximately 100 feet from the house. The apartment itself has been a vacation rental for several years and we always do our best to stay scarce when we have guests. We want guests to feel like they are getting away from it all and that they do not have property owners or anyone else hovering over them. If this is a concern of future guests we can stay off the property, even though on most occasions we never do see our guests and they never see us. However, on many other occasions we have enjoyed a bottle of wine with them on our front porch:) Due to the scope of the home, we do like to check guests in to show them around. After check- in and unless they wish to be personally "checked-out", or need our assistance, they do not need to see us again. We wish for your stay to be as comfortable and private as you are expecting.
