Running Pine is the signature plant that grows on our property. Also know as Ground Cedar, this wonderful plant grows in a vine-like way that, when left alone in the shade, will cover the ground. It originated about 25 million years ago and, at one point, was almost extinct. Except for the blueberries we have planted to the east of the house and the plants close to the house, everything has grown unencumbered, leaving the property natural and slightly wild. This wildness creates a feeling of calmness and serenity, conducive for cutting the electronic leash (if you want) and allowing yourself to completely relax and unwind. Perhaps you want to catch up on reading, write, practice yoga, meditate, or simply do nothing and sleep. Running Pine Loop is at the end of a gravel road in the middle of the woods with a small creek running through the back yard...yours to enjoy from either the ground level or the large screened porch above in the tree tops. Come experience the quiet and solitude for yourself. We look forward to sharing our contemplative retreat space with you!

My parents, husband, and I all truly enjoyed our weekend at this cabin! The cabin is spacious, calm, and well-appointed. We ate out on the porch, enjoying the almost-budding trees and sounds of nature. The area is so quiet and peaceful - just what we needed. Highly recommend.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway.

There is nothing better than having a vacation house meet and/or exceed your expectations. This house was everything it said it would be. It has an interesting, open floor plan that allowed for us to be comfortable in various corners of the space. It was just my son and myself, so the house was bigger than we needed, but not too big. Also we were there just as Spring arrived, so we did not use the screened-in porch. The ceilings are high, there are lots of windows, and everywhere you look you see trees. It is quiet, beautiful and peaceful. We came to the house expressly to hike on and around the Appalachian Trail. It is a quick drive to Amicalola Falls. We climbed the stairs up to the top of the falls and then a bit more at the top. We made a trip to Duke's Creek Falls and the town of Helen. One day we stayed close to the house and just hiked the trails on Jake's Mountain about 10 minutes away. On the last day of our visit we went to Neel's Gap and hiked to Blood Mountain. All of these outings were easy to get to from the house. The decor of the house was perfect...it was not too much of anything. The furniture is tasteful, comfortable and attractive. There are touches of beauty throughout the house and a wonderful symmetry to the space. The listing is accurate, and the photos reflect the appearances of the house. The property is lovingly maintain and Bard was always responsive to my questions. I have recommended this house to my in-laws, and would consider returning.Recommended for: Adventure seekers.

Thank you for letting us rent your beautiful home in the mountains. My wife and I used to live in Dahlonega, and we wanted to spend our Christmas there. A location so close to downtown was perfect for our daily hikes in the mountains. While we did eat out a few times, mostly I cooked dinner at night and we sat around and enjoyed the fireplace. The house has everything you need, full kitchen, great beds, porch, fireplace and is super clean. Even better, the house is located at the end of a road with complete privacy in the woods and very quiet neighbors. While the house does not have television reception or cable, they do have broadband internet. I was able to stream Netflix, Infinity Comcast and Amazon Prime with great results. So if you have a notebook, Ipad or tablet you can watch a movie in your downtime. My wife enjoyed reading on the comfy chair in the bedroom. We also discovered a pretty waterfall located on Clay Creek Falls Rd., just between the house and Dahlonega off Hwy. 52. It is on private property, but is right on the roadside, so easily viewed.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

We stayed at Running Pine Loop for our 3rd wedding anniversary and had a wonderful time! The cabin was very spacious and comfortable and the back deck was a great place to eat breakfast in the morning and listen to the owls in the evening. The cabin was also very close to the town square and the local wineries which were both very fun to visit. We loved the serene vibe of the cabin and highly recommend it to anyone looking to relax in the quiet of the beautiful Dahlonega mountains.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

My husband and I visited Georgia with another couple to attend a wedding. This house was perfect. It is close to town but still quiet and secluded. We hiked and enjoyed Dahlonega during the day for lunch and walking around town and relaxed on the screened-in porch each night before bed. The vineyards were such a nice treat and a lovely location for our friends' rehersal dinner and wedding. We would certainly recommend this property to friends and hope to return to this unique area. It has just so much to offer!Recommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway, sightseeing, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

We have traveled extensively in the US and Europe over the past years and we generally stay in apartments or houses. I can say that Running Pine Loop was the most relaxing place we have stayed in all our travels including other homes/cabins we have stayed in the mountains, beaches, or in Europe. Your home was the ideal location to unplug and relax. It was not just charming, it was perfect and had all the amenities of home. We were there for a week and never saw one person unless we left the property for dinner. We did see several deer and watched a squirrel building his nest for the winter. We did enjoy a day trip and a couple of evenings to some local attractions like Dalonega, Elijay, Helen, and Brasstown Bald where we got a flavor of the local culture and had wonderful views of the mountains. We were even able to see a local concert in a park in Dalonega. Each room of the house had its own appeal and we particularly enjoyed the assortment of books with many being on the arts. The facilities were very comfortable and well furnished with all the comforts of home. One of our favorite spots was the screened porch where we had breakfast and just relaxed under the fan as we enjoyed the calm and quiet of the breeze in the trees and occasional noise of an animal or bird in the trees or undergrowth. I am very happy that the house was available for the week as we celebrated our anniversary and a time to get away together and relax. My job is very demanding and finding this time and this location was an incredible way to reboot our lives and recharge. I look forward to being able to do it again at Running Pine Loop. Thanks for making it available for others like my wife and I to enjoy.Recommended for: Age 55+, sightseeing, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 1985
About the owner: Growing up in Atlanta, I was a frequent visitor to Dahlonega and the north Georgia mountains. After starting my photography business in 1975, I spent the next 10 years getting ready to build my house. Purchasing the Running Pine Loop property in 1984, I built the first section of the house, moving in in June of 1985. With the master plan set, I added to the house three times: building the back deck/screen porch in the late '80s, the dining room in the early '90s and the master suite in 2000. During the early 1980s, before I bought the Running Pine Loop acreage, I photographed for several shelter magazines including Southern Homes and Southern Accents. I studied the best interior spaces to discover what kind of space I wanted to live in. My goal throughout the process was to have as many features as possible that were unique to the house: the plan, the details, the feel. I was very personally involved in the design, construction and finishing of the house.
Why the Owner Chose Dahlonega:
There are several reasons why this property. As I knew the moment I met my wife that she was the one, when I walked on to the property, I immediately knew this was home for me.
It is all about feel. The house is set up on a north/south access to benefit from the rising and setting sun. The open design creates a spacious but not overwhelming sense of space. Exposed wood accents, wood floors and cabinets, the hand-made border to the fire place, the shoji screens leading to the yoga room, all contribute to the warmth and sense of comfort one notices when they enter the house.
Being a location photographer, I go off to work, often for multiple days at a time. When home, I needed to recharge and be able to rest and recuperate without a lot of distraction. This is what you can experience when you visit.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Driving down our little road, breathing more slowly with each curve, as I reach the top of the hill and head down the drive... the gentle curves go back and forth providing that extra bit of privacy. I personally chose and cut each tree to retain the dogwoods, wild azaleas and choice hardwoods which give the property its feel. As you come around the circle, the center of which is filled with the name sake Running Pine, the house comes into view.
You can enter either through the front door, carefully walking down the wabi-sabi stone steps, or by using the deck to the kitchen door to the left. As you step through either door, you are met with the warm tones of exposed wood. You exhale. Moving through the house you will notice the hand-made stair rails, kitchen cabinets, the custom shoji screens upstairs that are topped with hand-made oak book cases and the custom ceramic border to the fireplace made and installed by Atlanta artist Barbara Archer. The art on the walls contributes to a more relaxed sense of place. Notice the custom-made cherry table under the mirror when you sign the guest book. Breathe again.
In the master suite, which is approximately 16x26', the maple floors and ample windows are open and warm in feel. When the sun rises in the morning, you see it from your place in bed. Its shine invites you to join the day.
