My family enjoyed our stay immensely. I was surprised at the quality of construction and overall appearance of the newly remodeled second story. The antique furniture was a nice touch. We would love to stay here again. Thanks

Stayed 4 nights for WCU graduation. Cabin is located in great proximity to Sylva, Cullowhee and WCU,and while the road is currently macadam, it offers good access by motorcycle (how I arrived) as well. This pet friendly cabin is wonderful, with great spaces for 6-8 people to hang out, read, sleep with plenty of elbow room for everyone and feels very private and remote while being a straight shot into town. Our dogs felt at home within minutes of arriving, and so did we. Being so close to the melodic stream was a nice experience - one of our cabin mates was certain it had been pouring rain all morning (sound of the stream) until she saw that the sun was out! And as a photographer, strolling along the banks of the stream was peaceful, and gave me ample photo opportunities. The cabin is well appointed with kitchenware, furniture, antiques, books, games, videos, great front porch for socializing, and nice new upstairs deck for morning coffee...and fast WiFi, and the rock shower downstairs is awesome. We lacked for nothing - Thanks! And our little Tracfones had 5 bars the whole time, inside and out. The caretaker and owners were all very nice, personable and accommodating - we look forward to returning very soon!

I was looking for a relaxing place where my three dogs and I could stay. Many people on this site say they are pet friendly, when in fact they add many fees into the agreement. The owners did not do that, and so I was able to have an affordable vacation. The cabin itself is awesome. It's filled with antiques yet it really feels livabl., I wasn't worried about breaking things or my dogs muddying anything up. It's comfortable, and every room has a different view. The upstairs porch overlooks the mountains and other rooms overlook the stream. I read books, took baths, and spent time meditating. The owners really took the time to make sure it was perfect, they got wifi installed before I came, helped me out when the power went out during a snow storm, and sent recommendations for all kinds of things to do. I didn't leave the mountain, but the town is just at the base of it, and so if you wanted to, there are fun things to do just a few minutes away. Behind the house you can hike up for an even more awesome view of the mountains. Half of the time I was there it snowed, and it was cold, and still it was a wonderful vacation. I can't even imagine what it would be like during the summer, but intend to find out. Also, everyone I ran into was super friendly. The nieghbors, the caretaker, and the people in the grocery store. I will be coming back again and again. I didn't have the opportunity to do several things. The sky is amazing. I have never seen so many stars so clearly and there is a telescope I plan to use next time. There is a brewery in town, a wine store, a coffee shop and a bookstore. I will spend a day in town next time. Addtionally on the way home, I noticed lots of fun things to do not to far from the cabin. Shops and antiques stores that looked fun, as well as a nature preserve not too far away. The description on the site does not do it justice. It is truly a beautiful place, in the midst of a beautiful place. This will be my go to cabin for my one a year vacations from now on

We enjoyed the peace and quite of the cabin and the lovely stream just outside the front porch. It is very rustic but comfortable. The only drawback was lack of TV, internet and phone service. Our cell phones did not have service in the house and was spotty outside. If you want to get away from it all, this is a good place!

Owner response: We have added wireless Internet as of Feb. 26. Cell phone seems to be related to the provider. We get good service with ATT and TMobile. Verizon sometimes has issues.

Well, we've been around. Meaning we've invested significant time and money searching for a place like this collage of a cabin. It's sort of like a flower. The seed was the original timbers replanted in Sylva and blossoming into a semi-modern mountain experience. I won't rehash the particulars. Read the previous reviews, they're accurate! We've found it is difficult to describe to others, so we share the pics via facebook. Seldom do we consider revisiting a vacation experience. Been there, done that sort of thing (hate that saying, but it's appropriate here). But everything about our trip was exhilarating. Sylva and Dillsboro were too cool. Visit the park beneath the courthouse in Sylva. We play tennis and have two small pups, so it was a perfect place to go. The location is ideal. You can reach Asheville, Hendersonville (great apples), Lake Nantahala gorge, go rafting, sailing, fishing or just sightseeing within minutes of the cabin. We really don't want to advertise this place, but it should be shared by others. We thank the owners and caretakers for providing a terrfic experience at an affordable price. Uncharacteristically, I believe we'll be back!

What a beautiful cabin, that perfectly blends 1860's dogtrot log cabin and the newly added elements. Construction details were very well planned and excecuted, and this cabin has a unique style and feel that you would be hard pressed to find or create anywhere else. The well placed antiques only add to unique charm of the property. I have been staying in the mountains/cabins for many years both as a kid and a dad and this is the coolest place ever found. Also in August it never got above 84 degrees and we were never hot, or wished for AC. My wife and I loved the upstairs master suite area, the windows, deck, woodwork, and bathroom were amazing. It was great having an old clawfoot tub upstairs, or the unbelievable (literally like out of a magazine) downstairs shower to choose from. Our 3 kids loved the large downstairs 2nd bedroom, and it was great that they had thier own door to the porch and creek. We all loved the property, with its large yard and meadow area across the creek. The creek with the island upstream kept our kids busy for hours and they were easy to keep tabs on due to the layout of the property. The owners attention to detail is evident in every element of this cabin. There really are so many elements that are skillfully blended, that make this place so unique and feels truly "special". We spent more time at the cabin due to it's size, charm, and things to do than we ever have in the past. We were also shocked to find that our children enjoyed watching the I Love Lucy tapes that were at the cabin. The firefighter in me also really appreciated the hard wired/connected smoke detectors, the carbon monoxide detector, and the 2 large fire extinguishers. The motion light surrounding the house also gave a good sense of security. Several years ago we decided Sylva was the town we would go to in the mountains because of it's central location to everything we enjoyed, and it's size/services provided. Our 12 year old twins were complaining about our annual trip before the trip, now they are askiing if we can come to this cabin everytime. We cannot wait to go back to the treasure we found in Sylva. Thanks for sharing with us. P.S. The owners were also very nice, and extremely helpful in us booking the cabin on just a few days notice. What an altogether great experience.

We have been staying at this cabin every year since 2001. After our first year, we stopped looking at others. If you want peace, tranquility, wonderful weather(High of 83 at the cabin in the middle of July this year, and that was a heat wave), then this is the place for you. My grandchildren love playing in the stream and chasin fireflies at night. There is very little traffic on the road and noise is almost non-existent, if you don't count the sound of the stream. Hope to be here again next year. Rafting and stables are close enough if you really want to leave.

My family and I have spent many enjoyable vacations here over the last 11 years! It's a very peaceful and quiet getaway from the fast pace of everyday life! It's a perfect place to slow down and reconnect with your family. Not being far from Cherokee and the countless hiking trails and waterfalls in the area, there is plenty of fun for everyone regardless of age. Most days we find ourselves staying at the cabin playing in the beautiful stream. Between that and trying to catch the most fireflies at night my kids are always fully entertained. The upstairs bathroom has a wonderful deep tub to soak and relax, but it was hard to pick between the tub or the beautiful rock shower downstairs with two shower heads! Going to sleep at night is always made easy with the sound of the rushing stream and the cool fresh air from the windows open. I look forward to returning to this cabin for many more years, and the great memories still to be made!

This cabin has always held a special place in my heart. I have grown up coming to this cabin and all of my favorite child hood memories are in Silva. I remember playing in the stream and hiking during the summer and during the winter sledding down the mountain right by the cabin or learning how to ski in Maggy Valley. My husband asked me to marry him in Silva, since he knew how much I loved going there every year. Now, with us having children of our own I know that they too will have some of their best memories in the cabin. Just dont forget your camera, our best pictures come from the mountains; words cannot describe the beauty of the cabin or the land around it. We have visited several other places throughout the years but we have never found a place more perfect!

                  Year Purchased: 1984

About the owner: Our log cabin is a labor of love. The original log cabin was first built in Southern Georgia in 1865 by a woman and her slave for the husband coming home from the Civil war. We purchased it from the landowners who wanted to tear it down. We painstakingly dissassembled it (numbering every log-you can still see these tags today) and stored it in a relative's barn in Georgia until we found the perfect location for it on a mountain creek in North Carolina. We had eyed this property for many years as we visited a friend who had a cabin on the mountain. The property (and surrounding 30 acres) had been owned by one family for over 40 years and happened to go for sale at auction. It was bought by our friend's uncle and subdivided into 8 home-sites. We had our pick of our favorite location close to the stream which was also the site of the original hometead on the property. We reassembled the cabin as close to the creek as possible (it was the original dogtrot design made entirely of heart pine), added an 8 foot wide covered porch to the entire front of the cabin (to get the most enjoyment out of the stream) and added a bathroom, kitchen and sitting area to the back. This past year we have added a second story with a master suite and additional bathroom. As native Floridians, we have always wanted a place to escape the heat in the summer and enjoy the change of seasons the rest of the year. North Carolina is perfect for both of these.

                  Why the Owner Chose Sylva:
We have visited the Sylva area for 30+ years and feel like it is our second home. We plan to retire there for part of the year so we have furnished the cabin with all of the comforts we would want to have.

The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
There is nowhere we would rather be than sitting in the swing overlooking the creek in the summer or in front of the stone fireplace in cold weather. It is truly one of the most relaxing places you'll ever be. The scenery is constantly changing depending upon the season and the time of day. The creek can be seen and heard from most rooms of the house. The new Master bedroom has views on three sides from the bed.
