  We had a great time during our stay in Kailua. Our twelve year-old son and ten year-old daughter really liked having their own room. The house was close enough to the beach (10 min. walk) and it felt like we had our own private beach. Having a full size washer and dryer allowed us to pack "light." All the beach amenities made our beach days more fun. The property was bright and clean as described on VRBO. Eva and Tony were not there during our stay but we maintained contact by email. I would definitely recommend a stay at the Kalama Beach House!

  We had a great time at the Kalama Beach House. We have friends who live in Kailua and have rented several vacation rentals in the area in the past. This was by far our favorite. Our kids loved having their own room/beds and all of the kids books. Everything was very clean and the beach equipment came in handy. The owners were quick to respond to any questions and left very detailed instructions. They also had a comprehensive book with information on the area. Thanks Eva (and Tony)! We hope to stay at your rental again in the future.

  My family and I had an amazing stay at the Kalama Beach House. We aren't resort people, and usually stay in B&Bs when traveling, but for an even better price, we got this amazing 2 bed two bath house a walk away from the beach. We were traveling with a 2-year-old, and can't tell you how amazing it was that she had a separate bedroom. Though the kids room has no door, so we couldn't hang out in the living room after she went to sleep, we could close off the kitchen, master bedroom and a bathroom, so we didn't have to tiptoe around. As other reviewers have said. The house is immaculately clean and well-stocked, and full of amenities from washer/dryer to beach chairs and umbrella. We got to travel light because they provided a portable crib, a stroller and a high chair, even beach toys - suuuuuch a huge help! Tony & Eva were away so we didn't get to meet them, but they emailed us the first day to check in and were very gracious. We came straight to Kailua so we can't compare the town to Waikiki, but this town was the perfect vibe for us. Not too touristy, lots of awesome restaurants and local food (check out Yelp and Chowhound forums for recs, too many to post here!). And from our home base we travelled all around the Island. Definitely recommend a car, and be sure to get a GPS. We thought Mapquest and Google Maps would be sufficient but they never seemed to be able to find any of the attractions and places we wanted to go. Lastly, a word on the beaches. This side of the island is amazing for young kids. Gorgeous views, great temp and super calm waters. We went to a number of different local beaches, including Lainikai, Kailua Beach Park, and the stretch of Kailua Beach that is literally a five minute walk from this house. Not sure what the reviewer meant by saying the latter is not a swimming beach. We swam there with our toddler and she had a blast. There are waves, but they are super gentle.I wouldn't hesitate to let a little kid splash around the surf. No amenities like showers or bathroom, but it's 5 minutes from the house! I go a little nuts researching before vacations and we spent a lot of time comparing rental properties before deciding on this house, and I'm so glad we did!

  My family has been fortunate enough to stay in this beautiful home for 2 hawaiian vacations in a row! We really believe it has made our vacations so much more enjoyable by providing us a great little haven to call "home" after our adventures all over the island. The house is immaculately clean and well stocked with anything a family would need for day-to-day living- honestly, I can't think of anything we had to run out and buy. It's located a few minutes walk to the beach and a short drive to Kailua Beach Park- we prefer to ride our rental bikes! There's so much to love really but some of our favorite features are: How private the house feels because it's set so far back from the street The house stays a perfect temperature all the time- no a/c needed! The layout allows you to have those "cozy family" times but also large enough to provide everyone with personal space (maybe you need to have kids to appreciate that feature!) All the included beach goodies Washer and dryer And of course, the owners Eva and Tony-they are the most gracious hosts! Always accessible, happy to answer all our questions and sweet enough to compile a book of activities, restaurants, shops etc all in the area. If you're searching for a place that becomes part of your vacation and not just where you shower and sleep- you have found it!!

  The main house was truly a match made in heaven. Whatever you need, it’s there. For being first timers in Hawaii, it was a challenge to find a place and I struggle to find, a hotel or a rental house. I did an extensive search and read reviews, which lead me to this wonderful place. Suffice to say (with 2 adults, 1 teen, and child) this little abode was the perfect choice with abundantly space. Not only was it 2 blocks from the beach, but it came with all the beach goodies themselves. We packed very light and save a lot. Hawaii was overall amazing but my son love the beach in Kailua for swimming and playing even more then Waikiki; we spend a lot of time there. When it was time to eat, we were surprise that everything was very near to a mall with everything, from delicious burgers and a Whole Foods Market, to many little locally owned shops. But that’s not all, the main house came with a few surprises itself, not only did it have Wi-Fi, a flat screen, DVDs and CDs and an awesome kitchen with necessary supplies, but the calm and relaxing atmosphere in the house was the showstopper. We almost didn’t want to leave the house; we enjoy both, Hawaii and the house. On another note, I cannot tell you how wonderful it is having a washer and dryer. It really helped our mood to mellow. In addition to tranquility, it wouldn’t have all completely gone smoothly without the help and tips of Eva, Tony & the boys. When I say the boys; it’s because they had a magical bookshelf full of stories my children had not read, and let’s just say my husband and I haven’t heard them that quiet in a long time, when we were in the house. In addition, there was never a time when our family was out of things to do, mainly because Eva had left an incredible book filled with activities and restaurants to check out that we carry in our car. I have a list of things to do but the book had more things I didn’t find and worked out better in our schedule. Even more, I can tell you that if you rent a car, you should have a GPS, IT REALLY SAVES TIME, when driving around the island. Yet what in truth set of the family vacation was togetherness that grew between our family. My teenage daughter and son even worked together to make me a lei out of the flowers falling out of the trees. All in all, this was most definitely an unforgettable experience; we wouldn’t even give a second thought to ever going anywhere else. And I am recommending it to everyone in my hometown plus my extensive family. Thank you:)

  Making it a personal mission to visit as many of the Hawaiian Islands as I can, and this was my first visit to Oahu. Had no idea what to expect. Had visions of horrible traffic, waaay too many tourists, in short, didn't think I would find Oahu as relaxing as I have found The Big Island to be. Happy to report I was wrong! And staying at this house was one of the reasons! Eva (the owner) couldn't have been more accommodating and gracious and made our stay here one to remember. The house truly is 2 blocks to the beach, and the beach is breathtaking. The house's location is convenient to everything. Shopping, restaurants, the highway...had NO problems with traffic of any kind. I am used to driving around the Big Island, and much to my pleasant surprise, found that here,in a mere 25-30 minutes , I could be in Honolulu/Waikiki to experience the "touristy" Hawaii, and then, when I wanted to relax and experience the real Hawaii- could drive back "home", hang out in Kailua and go to the beach. The house was very clean and comfortable, and had anything/everything we needed for an enjoyable stay. Eva answered every question I had and was more than helpful with every aspect or our stay in her house. Can't wait for a return visit! In fact my daughter(who is getting married next month) will be taking a delayed honeymoon in the summer of 2013, and I can't think of a better place for her and her new husband to stay and enjoy both each other and the beautiful island of Oahu.

  What a comfortable home. We couldn't tell where everything was or how big it would be from the pictures, but we were very pleased with the high ceilings and the clean rooms. It really is all white! I don't know how they can keep it clean but it was surprisingly inviting. The bedrooms were spacious and it was nice to have 2 beds in the second bedroom for our sons. The lanai was such a treat because it was screened in, and we ate most of our breakfasts out there. The house is in a great location- 5 minutes or so from the beautiful beach and Kalama Beach Park and about 10-15 minutes walk to Kailua town and all the shops. The recommendations for things to do and places to eat came in handy and offered some really good advice.

  We stayed in this house last year for one week with our 2 children, 2 and 4 at the time. The exact dates were Jun 2 to 16 2011. I am posting this review today as the owner only listed it recently, and asked us if we could post a review of their house (we found out about it as they also have a holiday cottage wich is built next to it which was booked during our dates, and we were lucky enough that the owners were willing to rent their own home too, as they were going away!!). Main house and holiday cottage : the driveway is shared but everything else is private, and there is no vis-a-vis (entrance, outside sitting area). While we stayed we had the nicest neighbors (us staying in the house, them in the cottage), a family from Cincinatti with 2 children as well, that we ended up having lunch together in the main sitting area together on our last day there. Now the house : it had been cleaned just before we arrived, so it was super clean! As it is the owner's house, it had everything we needed, not like some holiday rentals which are missing on kitchen ustensils, etc. It is not a very big house, but it's nice and cosy, and for us felt like a beach cottage, that week we felt we were really on vacation! and in Hawaii! It was exactly like it had been described to us! No bad surprise! The kids loved the outdoor shower. We liked being able to rinse off the sand there too. The owner : the most adorable couple we have ever dealt with regarding holiday rentals, and last year we stayed 2 months in Hawaii and rentend 5 different places so we know what it is like. Eva had prepared a very thorough guest book, and we had several local contacts in case there was any question/issue during our stay. Remember they are locals and this book was filled with very useful info (restaurants they enjoy going to...). Location : this house is not on the beach, however it's close to several little shopping precincts (few mins drive), you can walk to the surf beach Kailua (no swimming there) or drive to "world's famous top 10 beaches" Lanikai (we had a swim there everyday, it was so easy to drive! This beach is the most amazing beach I've been to! Absolutely loved it!). We enjoyed being in a house, amongst the locals, not in a holiday unit. Next time we come to the North side of Oahu, this is where we would like to stay again... if the owners are away of course! Isabelle, Thierry, Juliette and Teva, Paris France (now in Australia!)
