Here's your chance to sleep in school! The Teacherage at Alango is nestled above 16,000 square feet of culture (Alango School, listed in the National Register of Historic Places), situated upon ten private acres, surrounded by hundreds of square miles of wilderness, yet just a short drive to town. Our 1500 square foot home-away-from-home is a traditional teacherage from days gone by that has been renovated to include all the necessities of today's comforts. There are two very large bedrooms, one with a double bed and the other with a queen bed. Each bedroom also has a day-bed and the rooms are theme- decorated down to the smallest detail. There is a pull-out (double) couch in the living room. The bathroom has been renovated into a spa-like, yet charming, retreat and includes a clawfoot tub, rain-head shower, and even a towel-warmer. The kitchen and dining room are spacious and include everything you might need to prepare meals during your stay. The living room includes comfortable seating to watch the large screen plasma TV (with satellite service) and there is a game table and writing desk. A washer and dryer adds to your convenience. Wireless internet is available. The Teacherage at Alango is located on the second floor of the school, has its own private entrance and tours of the school and its history are available upon request. Large windows offer beautiful views of the front yard and the woods surrounding the property. Because of our location on the second floor, unfortunately we are not handicap accessible. No smoking or candles are allowed inside our historic property.

About the owner: Hi, I'm Dan Maki and I'm proud to offer my home-away-from-home with you and your family. I have always had an interest in old buildings and this building has become a labor of love for me and my family. We look forward to sharing our passion for restoration with you!
Why the Owner Chose Cook:
Two very important people in my life, my parents, graduated from Alango School in 1957. It was always a beautiful building to me and when we vacationed up here as kids, we would always drive by and know it was where Mom and Dad went to school. It was when I brought my own son up for a fishing trip about eight years ago to show him the school when I realized that it had fallen into disrepair and neglect. It had not been a school for many years and various owners had used it for several purposes. Long story short, I bought it. With the help of my family, friends and the community, we have brought Alango School back to life and are proud to now share the upper level as a vacation rental. (The teacherage is historically where the female teachers boarded because they were not allowed to marry.)
The Unique Benefits at this Apartment:
They just don't make buildings like this anymore! Beautiful woodwork and details abound throughout. There's the dent in the gym floor where my father and a classmate accidentally dropped a piano off the stage. The pine floors have been refinished to their original shine and if these walls could talk, oh, what a story they would tell! To know that my parents went to school here and are now living in the original one room school-house behind the property, well, I guess you could say, they've come full circle. Saving this beautiful building, its stories and its history and sharing it with others is my greatest passion.
