Four childhood friends from the 1950s and 60s, now living in different cities, got together for a four-night stay at Pondview Cottage. First, let me say that we wanted to stay longer. The photos do not do the cottage justice. It is clean, comfortable, charming and roomier than it looks from the outside. The beds were very comfy and the view from the bedroom windows was lovely. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you would need--dishes, utensils, glasses, bakeware, cookware, coffee pot, toaster, microwave, etc. The two bathrooms were very clean, with plenty of large, thick towels. (Our only recommendation would be to provide a safety mat in the tubs as they are both deep and potentially slippery.) The cottage is 15-30 mins. from area attractions. We suggest that you visit the Lexington Welcome Center in downtown Lexington early in your visit. They can provide information on several things to do within a 20-40 min. drive. They arranged for a free tour of a local privately-owned horse farm. There are several in the area--we visited Clayborne Farms (where Secretariat is buried). Wonderful tour! The Mary Todd Lincoln Home in Lexington is very interesting. Not to be missed--Ramsey's Diner for lunch or dinner--good southern cooking! We enjoyed a tour of Town Branch Brewery and Distillery with samples of beer and bourbon. We also spent a couple of hours at Keeneland Race Track, yummy hot dogs! Each evening, after a full day of sightseeing we returned to Pondview to relax in the cozy living room--there are plenty of afghans to go around. We highly recommend Pondview Cottage--you won't be disappointed. We hope to return!

Owner response: Christine, thanks so much for your wonderful review and your helpful suggestion. We actually stayed at the cottage in August and I realized, then, that we needed to put mats in the tubs, but just got busy with life and forgot...will buy some this weekend. We try to think of everything one would need or want to ensure our guests are safe and comfortable. We are glad that your experience at the cottage was positive.
Can't miss on this one. It is exactly as pictured. You won't be disappointed.

Have you ever found a place that was so fabulous you know you should tell everyone about it, but that little place in the back of your mind wants to keep it your secret? Pondview Cottage made us feel that way. As we pulled into the driveway with the beautiful tree canopy, it immediately felt inviting. The cottage itself is absolutely charming! My daughter did not want to leave to go to the horse park the day after we arrived...and that is saying a lot. It definitely feels like you are visiting a friend's home. Every room is beautifully decorated. The beds and linens were lovely, in fact, I am one of those people that travels with my own pillow....and I liked theirs better! The kitchen could not be better stocked. Every cooking tool you could ever need was provided. We all spent time out on the patio, either in the morning or evening. My favorite was the night time when you could watch the fire flies. The view from the front or the back are equally appealing. We did not get a chance to fish in the pond. Hopefully next time, as there most definitely will be a next time! Horse shows are generally a less than restful experience and I can honestly say that this stay at Pondview Cottage made a world of difference. David and Phyllis are the most gracious of hosts. They have made Pondview Cottage a very welcoming spot. We hope to return next year, even if it is not for a horse show, wait...that sounds like an even better idea!

Biking from the Pondview
We have bicycled in the Lexington area a number of times over the past 5 years. The Pondview was the best location we have used so far to base our rides.

A dream of a "Bucket List" journey realized at the Pond View Cottage, Lexington KY. Driving up the lane to the property began the journey of the heart...viewing the pond in front of the property and walking into the cottage welcomed you truly home...and you could only HOPE of coming back again! Everything we needed or ever wanted was provided. I felt as if I were visitng a Southern Living Cottage...only I didn't have to leave when I finished the magazine...we stayed for a week! Three bedrooms, comfortable beds and bedding...I could go on and on...Adorable VRBO. We would give it the highest rating possible!!!

Our stay at Pondview Cottage
Our stay at Pondview Cottage
What a wonderful retreat for our family! This home is beautifully situated on one of my favorite drives outside of Lexington. Surrounded by the beauty of local horse farms and perfectly accomodated our family's needs for a long weekend away. The home was very well stocked with ammenties such as towels, kitchen supplies, and the fishing poles were a hit with the kids! We plan to come back in the Fall for our bi-annual visit to KY and the races! Thank you to the owners for sharing this wonderful home!

Owner response: Julie, thanks for taking the time to provide such a great review. We agree that Pondview is surrounded by beautiful countryside. Just the view from inside the cottage is most relaxing and, if one has the time, a leisurely drive on some of the scenic routes in the immediate area is defiantly worthwhile. We have attempted to stock the cottage with most anything one would need during a visit and appreciate your taking note of this. We hope your return visit is as enjoyable as your first.
More than we expected
More than we expected
We arrived with high expectations after seeing the pictures posted on VRBO. But everything in this cozy cottage exceeded our expectations. We were in town for the Bluegrass 1/2 marathon and to check out the horses in the Bluegrass. Instead of going out at night for dinner we took advantage of the well stocked kitchen and had a charming intimate dinner both nights. All bedrooms were well appointed and had lots of blankets and the views took our breath away as a prime example of horse country. Phyllis and Dave even called to check on us to see if we needed anything. Our only dissapointment is that it wasn't warmer outside so we could enjoy the porch! Thank you Phyllis and David for a memorable weekend with old friends! We'll be back.
