I have to say this is my favorite vacation spot ever! It is such a charming place to go and spend time with my good friends. This property is in a great location with gorgeous views of beautiful blue-green water rolling up on white sands. My favorite place to spend time (other than the beach itself) was on the front porch that stretches the full length of the house. I had my choice of rocking chairs or hammock, and with a glass of wine in hand, the scene was set for perfect relaxation...AND THEN...we saw the dolphins!...unbelievable beauty. I was especially pleased at how clean and pretty the house was. The kitchen came fully equipped with everything I could ever want to use. Each bedroom had its own distinct style, comfortably decorated to the hilt and the beds slept great! There are so many things to do it was hard to pick. Directly in front of the house by the beach is a cute little boardwalk, just wide enough for strolling or riding bikes together all the way to the Kure Beach Pier. By the Pier are several local eating establishments, and we certainly enjoyed the fresh seafood in the restaurants on multiple occasions. Of course, the sun and surf were always beckoning, and shell collecting while strolling on the beach was fun. I even found a few fossilized sharks teeth. It was so convenient to step off that big porch and in just a few steps be right on the sand. Being in such close proximity to the house made bathroom food and water breaks simple too. When we wanted a break from the sun, we visited North Carolina's fabulous state aquarium and Ft. Fisher Civil War Museum (complete with battlefields), all just minutes down the road. Across from the museum were some ocean oaks shading the beach so naturally we brought a picnic. There is also a Ferry you can take across the Intracoastal Waterway to Southport. The town was really neat to see after reading Safe Haven by Nicholas Sparks which featured it as the story location. There is so much to do here that I just can't list it all, but still my favorite was sitting on that gorgeous front porch, wine glass in my hand and watching the dolphins making their way along the shore. I can certainly see why the owners think of this spot as their home away from home. Thank you Debbie for sharing it with the rest of us, and thank you for being so willing to be available to answer all our questions! You helped make our vacation a perfect one. We will be back, but for now, we'll treasure our memories :) PamDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

I am skeptical of excessively long reviews… So I'll keep this short and sweet. This is a turn-of-the-century house that has the feel of a quaint little Bed and Breakfast with a modernized interior retaining the same (turn-of-the-century) motif. It is literally a 3 to 4 minute walk from the front porch to the edge of the water (the Atlantic Ocean). It has a large front porch with rocking chairs where you can observe the people on the beach without having to brave the sand. You can stroll along a boardwalk to the fishing pier several blocks away. Though this cottage has retained a “days gone by charm” It has all the modern conveniences including the Internet. It is large enough to accommodate an extended family with more than ample parking for all and invited guests. If it is raining, there are multiple museums you can visit, places to shop as well as a plethora of dining establishments nearby to occupy the family. I have stayed here several times and will stay here again in the future as this is truly “A Jewel by the Sea”. I have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending staying here to anyone. Moon Spinner Cottage was exactly what we hoped for and just what we needed. At the last minute we decided to take a break and head for the beach. The owner was responsive and accomodating to our last minute booking. The beautiful weekend was complimented by this wonderful cottage. Everything was just as we expected from the pictures and the reviews---clean, well appointed and very comfortable. The cottage is a cottage (very homey) with all the upgrades. The beds are very comfortable and the location is perfect....a short walk to the pier and an easy bike ride to the ferry. We wished we had stayed longer.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

This was a wonderful experience for my husband and I, so beautiful- and very clean! We were super happy to take advantage of all the attractions and then come back to relax on the porch hammock. The restaurants were wonderful, the people friendly, and the kayaking awesome. The ameneties in the house were top-notch as well and left nothing to be desired. It was an amazing week of being alone together in a breathtaking environment. We highly recommend visiting this beautiful beach and staying at Moon Spinner Cottage. Thank you so much for letting us enjoy your wonderful cottage!Recommended for: Tourists without a car, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing.

This is a truly special cottage by the sea! It has been completely remodeled with beautiful touches throughout. The attention to detail is evident the moment you walk through the door. Lovely coastal decorations are throughout making the cottage very cozy, but there is still plenty of room for all guests to have their space. We absolutely loved the front porch with its hammock & rocking chairs. Even in the heat of summer, this space has a lovely breeze, plenty of shade and is close enough to hear the waves crashing and watch the dolphins swim by in the mornings! We sat on the porch every morning and evening, it was incredible! Our family spent years in SC renting beachfront houses and this was our first trip to the NC coast and Kure Beach and by comparison this property is at the very top of our list. This house exceeded all our expectations and the owners were wonderful to work with. They have put a lot of love into this property and provide many little touches that will make your stay one to remember. We will be back! The beach is clean with soft sand, lots of space and the Moon Spinner's location couldn't be better. It's really just steps from the sand! Don't be fooled by the small, one-way street in front of the house. It's really more like a jogging path and the only occasional cars are usually just friendly neighbors waving as they slowly pass by. There is also a boardwalk that goes all the way to the heart of Kure Beach which is very nice for a sunset walk or morning run. The house is very near to a lot of fun activities for your entire group. We loved the North Carolina Aquarium (worth the $8 admission) and Ft. Fisher historic site just a few miles down the road. We went to these the day we checked out because while we were at the Moon Spinner Cottage we didn't want to leave! I can't say enough about this beautiful home and our wonderful experience staying and playing at Kure Beach. Wonderful!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.

Close enough to eat within blocks from house it is far enough from the noise of late night party goers. A prefect place if you want to put your children to bed and still be able to watch the sea at night and feel the ocean breeze, which had a breeze every night. The back yard is prefect for little feet to play on days when the ocean may be a bit rough. The house is so inviting that a week goes to quickly. It is quiet and comfortable and offers so much more then a condo for a family. The beds are yummy with over stuffed mattresses and the rooms give great privacy to the individual, can't hear my husband snoring in the next room. The owners are taking care of this property and doing it right. No hidden problems. We are locals from town and loved the week 15 miles from home =Pam and Rob GreenoughRecommended for: Tourists without a car, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing, people with disabilities, families with young children.

Year Purchased: 2000
About the owner: We are a local family from Wilmington, North Carolina. Our family consists of my Husband, myself, and our loving son who is currently attending UNC-Chapel Hill. Ever since we moved here in the early 1980's it had been a dream to own a beach house to call our own, and to make it our own. As the avid beach-goers that we are, this beautiful residence served the perfect function of being our stepping stone to the warm sands and and the cool breezes of our favorite NC beach. With our son moving out and exhaust from 11 years of meticulous care, we figured we be a little less selfish and share the beautiful house to others when we couldn't be there.
Why the Owner Chose Kure Beach:
Location. Location. Location.
We always knew we had wanted a beach house that was not huge, but not small. After carefully searching throughout the Kure Beach area for several years, we stumbled across this house and made it a family project to completely restore and remodel it from the ground up. Its proximity to the beach, exclusive location, and enormous back yard made the decision easy for us to make. The previous owner mentioned stories of its resilience against Hurricane Hazel in 1954 and claiming it was one of the few survivors, making its persistence even more appealing. At the time of the purchase it was no more than a beat-up cottage that was in dire need of some appreciation from its owner, a task we were willing to take on. 11 years later after refinishing all of the wood, installation of brand new appliances, complete redecoration, addition of a front yard, backyard shed, landscaping, and hours upon hours of manual labor improvements we were happy to call it our own. There is no doubt you will enjoy it as much as we do.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Many of our favorite benefits of the house include:
...10 second walk to the beach
...1 minute walk to the pier/fishing/restaurants/shopping
...front porch relaxation (hammock, rocking chairs, etc.)
...Lifeguard stand right in front of our beach location
...Aesthetic landscaping that complements wonderful view
...interior ergonomics that allow a common living space, but separate rooms that allow different friends to enjoy their own section of the house.
...Enormous back yard for parking, cookouts, throwing the football, or laying out and playing music.
...The uniqueness of each room's theme.
...And everything else
