This was a terrific winter wonderland, with several of the homes fireplaces keeping us warm and cozy as a blizzard roared away outside. Over 2 feet of snow fell over 2-1/2 days, but we were warm and busy cooking (in the great, well equipped kitchen), playing pool in the great room, tingling on the piano, and playing games in the sun room. There was room for many activities and private spots for reading. We had a dinner party for 25 - the house handled it great. Plenty of plates, silverware, great pots and pans and a welcoming, beautiful environment - especially with the fires going., This is a rare house - amazing that it is for rent, especially in the winter (though it is winterized, most of the homes on this private stretch are used only in the summer). Lots of waterfowl to view from the living rooms large windows onto Lake Erie. A great holiday week for all our family and friends.lRecommended for: Adventure seekers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, pet owners, families with young children, age 55+.

We spent several weeks here over the summer and it was delightful! One of the many great features of this house is the comfort and intimacy for just a few, while having ability to accommodate a big crowd with ease! The rolling green space allows for endless possibilities of games with family or simply as a calming surrounding for unwinding from a hectic schedule. My children had a blast in the pool and cruising around the property! Aside from it's own private beach there are countless places to visit(Niagara Falls, Toronto, Buffalo) and there are many areas populated with children along the beach. We enjoyed both lounging privately and joining others close by! Overall, we had a great experience and the property owner is absolutely wonderful!Recommended for: Girls getaway, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, pet owners, families with young children, age 55+.

11 of our family recently spent Thanksgiving there. Every aspect of the accomodations were wonderful. The bedrooms on the second floor included two bedrooms with ensuite baths, and two adjacent wings each with two bedrooms and a washroom. The house had two 75 gal. hot water heaters, so there was plenty of hot water anytime. Four of the bedrooms had direct views of Lake Erie. The kitchen had been recently renovated with high end appliances that were a joy to work with. Two of our crew are chefs, and even they were impressed with all the dishes and cutlery and pots and pans supplied. As we were doing the full turkey/stuffing/pumpkin pie thing, we had need of the serving dishes and utensils, and three sizes of forks and spoons. Being there made it easy to have a gracious dinner. The dining table, in the separate dining room, was a nine foot single piece cherry round table that the room must have been built around, it was so large. We sat 11 with ease, and they had cherry dining chairs for thirteen. The main livingroom of the house was approx. 20' by 32', and housed two couches, four chairs, and a 4' by 8' pool table with all the racks and balls etc. At each end was a huge fireplace, and the view wall was mostly glass looking out over a spacious deck, across an endless lawn to a sparkling lake beyond. Beside the living room, there was a separate lakefront sunroom/TV room, and a main floor library which we used as a quiet room for reading. On the beach were two kayaks and a canoe, complete with paddles and life jackets. The 40' pool was sparkling clean and heated to 84 degrees. Although the weather was cool this year, it was well used. The house had a circular drive and two, two car garages, which amply served our five cars without any parking problem. As the property is four acres, there is space for just about anything you could imagine. My sister and crew played croquet. If the weather was better, we could have played football, flown a kite, or practised our chipping to the green. Needless to say it was private. The owner called when we first arrived to make sure everything was as expected, and he called me again when we returned home to ask if we had a great time. Such caring and attention to detail made our family holiday feel gracious and one to remember.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, pet owners, families with young children, age 55+.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2005
About the owner: Owner grew up on the shore of Lake Erie and across the Niagara River in Buffalo. Florida Resident since 1982, my family and friends have visited 'Canada' every summer and enjoyed the incredible amount of things to do while boating and swimming in crystal clear Lake Erie. When this home and property became available, we renovated kitchen, electric and plumbing while maintaining the beautiful hardwood floors throughout and the grand salon/living room with huge fireplaces at either end.
Why the Owner Chose Fort Erie:
Growing up, my good friend and his family lived here and we played football, slip and slide, go-carting, and many other fun activities. Our children and grandchildren have enjoyed staying here during summer breaks, but now everyone gets busy across the Country, so I decided to put it on VRBO so other families can discover this hidden gem of the Niagara Region of Canada.
The Unique Benefits at this Chateau / Country House:
We are close to Niagara Falls-23 miles and the Napa Valley of Canada-Niagara on the Lake. Niagara Falls has its Casinos, restaurants, and fun nightlife. We are 35 minutes from the BUffalo airport and 15 minutes into Downtown Buffalo with its great nightlife on Elmwood or Chippewa St. Mainly we enjoy entertaining right here on the huge lawn overlooking Lake Erie and the American Lakeshore, often with bonfires in our firepit almost every night. Great for kids and s-mores!
