Welcome to our peaceful family retreat! Brand new updates and renovations for 2013!!!! (Pictures coming soon)... The house has AMAZING views of Assawoman Bay, INCREDIBLE sunsets, and is merely STEPS to the private, life-guarded south Bethany beach which borders the state park - just a 5 minute walk across RT. 1 by way of crosswalk. The house has a very private, terrific location, adjoins a 50-acre bird sanctuary and has a secluded screened in porch and a full deck on the bay side from which you can soak in the awesome views - or just relax after a full day across the street playing in the waves. There are tons of windows throughout to get more oxygen than you can imagine from the fresh ocean air - or enjoy the state-of-the-art GEOTHERMAL ac/heating unit for those hotter days or cooler nights. The main level features an open living/dining/kitchen room with plenty of comfortable seating, a flat-screen television and a ladder to the loft. The fully-equipped kitchen has a breakfast bar with seating as well as a dining table. Three bedrooms fill out the main level - there is a smaller bedroom with two twin beds across the hall from the full bath, a bedroom with a queen-sized bed, and a master bedroom featuring a queen-sized bed and a separate European-style bathroom with a walk-in shower. All of the bedrooms have brand new hardwood flooring and have been freshly painted and updated with new bedding. The loft is accessible by a captain’s ladder and features a semi-private bedroom with a full bed as well as a twin bed and a t.v. - a great place for teenagers! Because the ladder is rather steep, we do not allow children to use the ladder and use of the upstairs area is solely at your own risk. There is so much to do in and around South Bethany - whether it is a deep sea fishing trip, kayaking, para sailing, shopping at the TAX-FREE outlets, antiquing, dining out, playing golf, - or just relaxing at the beach or at our home - the location and house can't be beat for a fantastic, relaxing, and enjoyable family vacation! PLease note - house has been completely updated for this year- pictures don't show all the updates - look for better photo's after May 17th!

Loved our stay at South Bethany. The house itself was perfect for out family of four, but would easily have accommodated another family too. It is situated in a truly idilic private setting over looking the canal and wetlands and the landscaping adds to the privacy. The teens loved the loft for hanging out and watching tv,- and also the crabbing and fishing from the small dock. The open plan living/dining/kitchen was bright and breezy with amazing views from the floor to ceiling windows. I personally loved the quirkiness and artistic feel of this well equipped home. I loved the original artwork, the piano and numerous interesting features of this house. In short, this did not have the feeling of a generic beach house. I felt that I was a guest at someone's much loved home. The beach is probably a 5 minute walk, but embarrassingly each day we tended to drive and park on the oceanfront block (using the resident parking pass that was provided), so we could unload the various boogie boards, skim boards etc. We never had a problem finding a parking spot even though this was July 4th week. Did some kayaking, paddle boarding and sailing on the bay at reasonable prices, at OCEAN KAYAKS, 5 minutes down the road in Fenwick Island. Husband fished early every morning and caught numerous blue fish. There is a small interesting row of shops a short walking distance from the home which included Gourmet Market for baked goods/salads/breakfasts and foodie items, Honey an Milk, for hoagies, a bait shop, a pizza place and a interior design/homeware shop. Bethany restaurants are a short drive away (5 mins). We did venture into Ocean City MD one night and quickly returned! Definitely not my cup of tea! Nicki, the owner, was really helpful with area info and very accommodating with our arrival time, She couldn' have been more approachable .All in all a great relaxing beach trip. I would not hesitate to rent again. The Watson FamilyDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Owner info
Year Purchased: 1972
About the owner: This is our family vacation home - which was lovingly built by my parents in 1976. There are so many unique features to the house - for instance, the walls in the bathroom are extra pebble exterior pieces from Sea Colony that my Dad decided to use for the walls - and there is a skylight in the hall bath. The floor in the bath and the ceiling in the hallway are both made from reclaimed beach fencing. Additionally, the house has several stained-glass windows, unique art and decor - all made by either my parents, siblings, or me. We have not rented the house in a number of years and are completing updates in phases. This year we replaced all the flooring in the bedrooms, painted the living room, bedrooms and hallway, replaced the outdoor shower with a new enclosure, stained the deck and made other improvements along the way. We are still in the process of updating the loft and the bathrooms - but we think the house is pretty charming and relaxing as is - and the setting can't be beat!
Why the Owner Chose South Bethany Beach:
We have been coming to South Bethany for almost 40 years as a family - and have loved every visit. It has been amazing to watch the area slowly grow - but our house and the surrounding neighborhood have pretty much stayed the same throughout the years. Now we have kids of our own and are enjoying watching them grow up at the beach - it truly is a family resort!
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The sunsets off of the deck and over the bay are never the same and are always awe-insprining. Words cannot describe the exact color, beauty or sense of being connected to nature that overcome you when you experience one of the gorgeous sunsets. Knowing that the beach is easy to reach from the house is also great - whether taking a stroll first thing in the morning or just at dusk - the location of our house really lends itself to creation of a terrific family vacation!
